Everything was excellent from the location to the food to the atmosphere to the room, you will not be disappointed, one of the best stays I’ve ever had at any hotel.
Birthday getaway at The Grand
Rooms were spacious and comfortable, though the carpet had some bumps and could use an update. Dinner at The Rise was a highlight, the beef Wellington was excellent. Staff were warm and friendly, and check-in was quick with our room ready on arrival. Special thanks to Matilda Dias for handling all the arrangements and restaurant bookings, plus letting us know about the races and helping with tickets. We had no idea they were on! Definitely recommend this hotel.
Elegant and grand. Staff were exceptional
12.5% service charge on everything
The Grand York is one of the best hotels we have patronized in two lengthy lives full of travel. Its excellence starts with its staff. We found them to be friendly, competent, and helpful under all circumstances.
The room was large, well appointed, and cleaned well during our four night stay. We particularly appreciated the heated bathroom floors.
Breakfast was available via a well stocked and maintained buffet or individual orders from the menu. We used both methods and found them to be excellent in both cases. The dining room was commodious and pleasant.
The location of the Grand York proved to be excellent. It is extremely close to the train station, bus lines, and an area where many small private tour buses meet their customers. While the hotel is on the opposite side of the river from he areas where most tourists would spend their time, the distance is short and easily walked. There was a good deal of construction noise is the day, but it never continued past late afternoon.
If we ever return to York, we will certainly choose the Grand York again.
I took my 87 year old dad up to York on the train for a 3 night break. The Grand was walking distance from the station and from there a 10 minute walk along the Roman Walls and across the river to the Minster area - perfect!
We had an excellent breakfast every morning, and ended up having 2 delicious dinners at The Rise. We ended every evening with a dram in the bar.
Our rooms were spacious. We were in 147 and 148. Extremely quiet.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
To top things off, I just wanted to share this: I accidentally left an old opened envelope in my room containing a few letters I needed to follow up on. It would have looked like a pile of rubbish, and could easily have been discarded by a cleaner. When I called 24 hours later on the off chance that the envelope had been retained I received a prompt and helpful reply. The cleaning staff had handed in the envelope and for a very small postage fee it could be sent to me. I was so grateful for the diligence of the person who cleaned up my empty room. And Scarlet in Guest Services could not have been more helpful. It’s a quality place!!
In summary, this was a treat of a stay for us. It’s not cheap but we had an amazing visit to this beautiful city and hotel and made fantastic memories.
The location was spot on for exploring the old town as well as its proximity to the station
The Rise restaurant served good quality food especially their Beef Wellington, a MUST to try
We paid for an executive room and although it was spacious, room 504 was rather dark, that's the only downside
Perfect location

Everything
Nothing
The hotel staff are always very accommodating and helpful. I was with my elderly Mum and the service and attention from everyone was fantastic.
The only complaint I have is the cost for using the spa, which is a new charge since my last visit.
Fabulous location. Stunning hotel. Luxurious hotel and rooms. Outstanding place to stay. Close walk to York Minster, and all the sights and right in the city centre. Perfect stay
Nothing really. Although a pool would have been nice.
Great location and facilities
The staff are really friendly and approachable at this hotel; as a solo traveller this is so important. The hotel itself is beautiful. I love the lounge to just relax in and read, have a lovely coffee or drink. Comfortable seating, wonderful decor and calming ambience.
My room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Had a great couple of nights sleep and loved the Molten Brown toiletries! I can't wait to come again and try the restaurant in the evening and the spa which looked so luxurious!
The only thing I didn't like was that I had to leave!
