Location
Room was not clean the first night. Dust, food and drink marks on the night stands, window left open in the bathroom so full of mosquitos. We checked in after 9pm and went for a drink and when we finally realised that the room was not clean we were too tired to let anyone know. We told housekeeping in the morning and the second day it was cleaned and how it should have been from day one. We also had a huge discussion when ordering drinks at the beach bar and first the wrong drink was served which I accepted and happily paid for but then we got over charged in another and when I mentioned it I was told in a really patronising tone to just pay whatever I want so I can go hang around the beach and sleep all day. We were supposed to come back that week for family lunches, but after that we decided not too. Used the spa facilities and the ladies in there were fabulous, helpful, friendly and loved the massage.
Beakfast was good and some of the staff were nice
I forgot my Qcell mifi router in room 74 since Tuesday and it is still yet to be found. I expected a better turnaround and some of the staff have been rude during this stage
All the staff are extremely kind and super helpful!! The whole hotel complex is very beautiful and impressive. The beach area is lovely and quiet, perfect for relaxing. There are several beautiful pools, and the rooms are comfortable and quiet. The restaurants serve amazing food. The spa is excellent with great value for money, it is clean, offers very good service, and I can also highly recommend the hairdresser there, both for the quality and the reasonable prices.
Unfortunately, the overall price-performance ratio is disappointing. For such a high price, I expected much more!! While the hotel looks impressive, many parts of the complex are quite outdated. Especially the outdoor areas would benefit from better maintenance, some renovations, and a thorough deep cleaning!! For example, there are dirty roofs visible from some balconies, broken concrete pathways, and rusty balcony railings, which is surprising for such an expensive and supposedly luxurious hotel.
Great hotel with lovely staff. The staff really made the stay feel welcome and at home.
Ousman AKinteh the beach wait staff was very attentive and always made sure we had plenty of drinks
The Coco Ocean Resort & Spa is no longer a five-star hotel; it’s a three-star hotel that needs refurbishment. Our Superior Suite was outdated.
The sun loungers are rusty with torn cushions. Much of the furniture dotted around the resort is grubby and old. The WiFi is abysmal, with a very weak signal and constant dropping. The breakfast area is like a school dining room. The Cane bar has no toilet and is dominated by the virtual golf screen.
During our stay, we encountered several issues. The patio screen door’s runner was dislodged, and the mesh was not attached. Maintenance replaced the mesh but didn’t improve the door. The room door was swollen and stiff, requiring assistance to open. Hand towels were missing from the bathroom four times, despite our repeated reports to reception. Room service left finished dinner/snack plates outside guest rooms, attracting insects and cats. Long story short, these issues were finally resolved with the assistance of our Gambia Experience rep, Karamo, who spoke directly to the duty manager.
I requested a towel for a day trip, but it wasn’t available when I asked. Then, I was told it would be available after breakfast with a deposit of 200 dalasi. When I went to collect it, I was told a deposit of 400 dalasi was required. I think it’s unnecessary to charge a deposit for a “5* resort”.
Our room was adjacent to the steps down from reception, which was often used as a makeshift self-media runway for day guests posing for selfies and filming themselves walking down the steps.
And the steps! Knowing from the brochure that the hotel has many steps, but, actually going up and down the steps to the beach, restaurants, pool, and bar can be challenging 😅
The staff were friendly, especially the pool staff. The food was good. Particularly the tempura and salads. The breakfast had plenty of variety. The resort could do with a few mixologist on duty!
Overall, the stay at Coco Ocean was adequate, but I would not return.
It’s the best for service and the unrivalled hospitality of the staff. There are improvements to be made to the building which is a bit dated however
This hotel seriously needs millios spent on it, its shabby & lifeless. The pool areas are basic with rusty sunbeds & cushions torn & split!
We had a club villa which could have been lovely . They are small, very very dated, smelt like toilet, the mirror in bathroom had a giant crack in it & the shower old fashioned & dribbled out.
We were staying at another hotel & i booked this for one night for our anniversary as we had debated staying at this hotel before booking. (Thank goodness we never booked this for our entire trip) We ended up leaving after 2 hours & i lost any money paid but there was just no way we could stay there. The management were disinterested in what i had to say, the only helpful person was a lady at guest relations but management offered no apology, no room change or refund. To be honest even with a room change we wouldnt of stayed.
This is barely a 2 star its just horrible weve been to the gambia a few times so don’t expect high end luxury but this was beyond terrible. Cant comment on food & drinks as didnt try any. Also outside hotel literally right at the front they are building a new road so wuite major wrk & to the left is a big crane & a part completed tower block.
I really enjoyed my stay at Coco - I have just got home . The staff are amazing - they are the highlight . They can’t do enough for you - and that is right across every department from food, reception, pool, beach, housekeeping, bar . They are all superb and service every day is with a smile.
The food was really good in each restaurant.
The hotel feels a little “tired” and clearly needs some investment but it is very clean, the weather is perfect and the facilities /location are wonderful . I will be definitely returning .
This hotel has a five star rating which needs to be taken in the context of being in West Africa. Our accommodation was spacious and in an amazing location. The service in this hotel would be six star in any country. The food prices were very reasonable and the food was a very good quality. This was our first visit to the Gambia. It will not be our last.
