The Place

Accomidations were exceptional, but the staff and management were even more exceptional. I had lost my phone on the train before I arrived at "The Place." Everyone was particularly very gracious and helpful to do everything they could to help. They helped me locate my phone, but since I couldn't retrieve it while I was there, they also helped me contact my family, contact the lost property division of the train station, book a tour, call cabs,..anything I needed. Exceptional service, far beyond my expectations!

A gem of a hotel within reasonable walking distance of Waverley Station. Staff were very warm and friendly, we were given upgrade to “Crime Room” which was spacious and well equipped with comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities and separate bathroom with bath and double shower.
Communal areas were clean and elegantly furnished, with a well stocked bar. Breakfast was comprehensive, so much so that on the second morning I had to ask for less to which staff were happy to oblige. Very well presented food options with copious amounts of tea/coffee.
We were able to leave our bags on the final morning to allow us to enjoy Edinburgh without bringing bags with us.
The hotel offers great value for money and I would recommend it should you visit the city.

A great location on a slightly quieter street of Edinburgh, easy walk to the city though. Tram is ~5 minute walk to the hotel, which makes life easy.

The staff are all really friendly and helpful. We stayed in a Cosy double room, which was clean & well equipped (the shower was amazing..!)

The only downsides are the thin walls (could hear the room next to us snoring) and people in the hallway chatting. The room doesn’t have A/C or an opening window, so can get quite hot without a way to cool it down.

Overall, a handy and nice place to stay for a night or two.

We stayed here while visiting Edinburgh for my partner's birthday. Having stayed in numerous venues throughout the city we decided to try this place. We were not disappointed. The customer service was impeccable, with super-friendly and helpful staff. The location is great - very central and convenient to most amenities. The bar and breakfast area were beautifully done out, with lots of attention to detail, providing a warm & welcoming ambience. Our room was small, but had everything we needed. Our waitress asked our plans at breakfast, and when we stated we were celebrating a birthday, she returned shortly thereafter with a beautiful selection of cakes, with a chocolate "Happy Birthday" written on the plate. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. It also has a beautiful outdoor space for warmer weather. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay so special.

My wife and I are recently back home after a couple of days at this hotel. I have to say, I can't find fault. Spotlessly clean, quiet & comfy rooms with everything you need. Breakfast was amazing. But the staff made it all the more enjoyable, by way of politeness, and being helpful.

Beautiful establishment and staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Allowed us to leave baggage before checking in and after which helped relief stress of lugging bags. Welcomed by Bogdan who was a lovely gentleman

Great hotel in a perfect location for exploring Edinburgh. Right by a tram stop so easy to get to from the airport, also close to the train station. Lots of shops nearby and great restaurant options. Our room was huge, bed comfy, staff friendly. Would recommend for a long weekend in Edinburgh

We visited Edinburgh at the end of September 2025 for a four day trip. We booked in at The Place Hotel very near the city centre. The hotel was very clean, the staff very helpful and friendly and our room was serviced daily with clean towels etc. Although the room was quite small it had a nice en- suite toilet and shower room, TV, free Wi-Fi and coffee & tea making facilities. The bed linen was spotless. I would recommend it.

Lovely helpful staff

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Comfortable and clean room, although several stairs to negotiate (up to 3 floor and no lift.) We requested a room with least no. of stairs and they were very accommodating. Great breakfast (extra cost). Within 5 minutes walk of several excellent restaurants and large shopping mall.

The property staff was excellent. The beds were horrible- outdated, spring mattress. No elevator- 72 steps to the top where rooms are.
