Booked after simply reviewing images and checking services and location online. Everything was perfect for my one night stay. Lovely quiet area, good dog walking in small park only a few yards away and short walk to the sea. Comfortable room and good food. Everything I needed in one place.
location very good in babbacombe short distance to Torquay it was not noisy rooms were ok value was good very clean service very good food good Amenities were good
The staff was so friendly, easy-going and willing to help that it made for a very relaxing stay. Spacious and comfortable surroundings with all amenities very clean and working perfectly. Good daily menu with plentiful, varied food, kept nicely hot when self-serve. Car-park facility and some great evening entertainment. Will use hotel again.
Good points: The very friendly, hard working staff. The communal areas. The location. Easy parking. The lunchtime food. Dog friendly.
Less good: The tired bedrooms. Patchy, over-ambitious breakfast offering (including chip shop-style sausages).
Evening meal was ok-ish for the price paid.
Great stay with awesome friendly staff throughout.. lovely spa, evening entertainment, bar, breakfast, venue but most of all full praise to daisy for her attention to detail and multi tasking for making your stay so unique.. all other staff are always happy cheerful and talkative too! Thank you .. will return soon!
The breakfast was good. The lunch a bonus. The evening meal choice was limited but was acceptable. The drinks package with reduced prices on full board was good. The bed was comfortable and the staff service was gooy
Honestly a fantastic price for a great location, ample parking, great food and a welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms well maintained and from chatting in the dining room we met several folk who are regular guests and love the place. The coast is a pleasant ten minute walk away with a funicular railway to the beach and a number of very chill bars and pubs nearby.
First the positives - the room and en suite were clean. The waiting staff were friendly. Breakfast was adequate - bacon, sausage, fried or scrambled egg, hash brown, fried bread and tomato. Also cereal, tinned fruit and yogurt.
Steve the Saturday night entertainer was very good.
Now for the negatives - we found a nail on the carpet in our room (fortunately before standing on it bare foot), the springs in the bed were poking through. The furniture was dated and it was bare, no pictures on the wall.
At breakfast, the toaster took ages and created a queue. One regular said its the same toaster they've had for years! The scrambled egg was swimming in liquid! The pain au chocolate was straight out the long life bag, not fresh or heated through!
Dinner was a choice of three - meat, fish or vegetarian. One night was chicken in tarragon sauce which was inedible due to the high amount of salt in the sauce. The vegetables were clearly canned (sweetcorn) or frozen (mixed veg and diced swede) and the cauliflower cheese had no taste of cheese!
Very old fashioned puddings like spotted dick and peach melba (tinned peaches and ice cream)!
Suitable if you want a basic old fashioned traditional hotel.
I stayed at The Anchorage for two nights full board. A lovely friendly welcome at reception, very helpful. My room was fine, very clean with plenty of tea/coffee making kit. Big TV. Nice bathroom, again spotless. Had a fantastic night's sleep in a very comfy bed. Evening meal very nice with three choices. Breakfast was fantastic, buffet set up with many options including fried bread which as a Northerner I haven't seen often in Devon. Very helpful & friendly staff on hand in the dining room if you need any help. There was entertainment on the second night, an excellent female vocalist. A well equipped bar area.
The hotel is in a nice, quiet part of Torquay, Babbacombe with the Cliff Railway, Model Village & Bygones Museum is only a ten minute walk away. I'm planning another stay at the hotel & was happy with everything & in particular the staff, who go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your stay.
I would recommend the anchorage as the perfect place to stay .
Solo or with family
Thank you we will be back
Really helpful, friendly staff, We had a great welcome and enjoyed our visit. Excellent for wheelchair users.and animal lovers
Lovely little hotel, lovely relaxing atmosphere and home cooked style food.
All the staff are friendly and helpful.
Had a great short break, just what I needed.
Not to my expectation for price I paid. which was double to the guests I talked to.
the information on booking.com doesn't match the hotel's.
The manager Russel needs to take critism professionally. What I adviced him.
It was only to make your hotel service better, rather than a double standard which was obvious from beggining.
Anyhow Good luck.
An excellent value for money venue with provision of great family service. The restaurant food is well stocked and well cooked with plenty of options. The accommodation very good.
I have taken a while to compile this to ensure I give the credit deserved.
I started coming to this family run Hotel about 17 or more years ago and would highly recommend anyone to go there for a visit or a stay due to their excellence.
Having stayed earlier this month, I enjoyed it so much that I am going there again soon to enjoy their current offer. Here are my views and reasons why I give the Hotel full stars.
Due to my debilitating illnesses I am unable to go on holiday but have needed to get away for my health and wellbeing. I receive emails from the Anchorage and a recent one had an offer which seemed to be perfect for me as I needed to relax and not use my energy. Their offer is from January to March 2026. They often have many offers.
The offer is for a Full Board stay of minimum of 2 days stay. It also includes free use of their Spa facilities of which I used each day I was there. There is also an offer on selected bar drinks at £1.50 between 6 – 9pm.
Entertainment I believe is based on the number of guests staying. This to me makes sense to ensure it’s cost effective.
A Steam Punk group stayed when I was there and they gave a brilliant night’s entertainment for all of the quests. There was also entertainment the following night.
The Assistant Manager is Daisy who went the extra mile for me and helped my stay be a relaxing and wonderful time. Daisy deals with so many things in the Hotel and is always busy so I thank her for helping me as mentioned.
The Hotel is possibly one of a few that allow dogs to stay or come for a visit with their owners (in the lounge only). This is a brilliant idea of the owners as it helps visitors meet up with friends, family, have meetings etc. They can enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee meet ups and many more. They have home made cakes which are lovely to accompany your chosen coffee and come as a deal if you wish and may be sufficient enough to eat if you are not there for lunch.
I thank all staff, including those involved in the lovely food I received.
The Hotel can advise you of more facilities etc available.
We had one of their 2 day deals and it was more than a bargain. All the meals were freshly cooked, mostly cooked from scratch, all four of us were very happy and there was too much food. The hotel is clean and the staff were just lovely and worked their socks off. We had a lovely time. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the spa but it wasn’t our main reason for going. We all had a lovely treatment from Katie. Thank you for a lovely and amazingly cheap stay.
Ive been doing spa days for awhile
now and the only good thing about this was the actual facial i have to say katie did a brilliant job and was so friendly and professional.
It was only a hot tub, steam room and sauna in like a conservatory. And no indoor pool was only a outdoor one was really disappointed.
Stayed ere for xmas with a coach trip 23rd dec to 27th.the room was ok shower ok. Entertainment was good each nite there was nothing 2 do in the day thought they would have had bingo but on boxing day 1 of the coach drivers done it
The food was not good at all and cottage pie or fish chicken but the xmas dinner was lovely staff lovely expecially christina she was very nice .we wouldnt go bk to this hotel again only good thing to say about it that it was lovely and warm .
Overall good experience and value for money. Staff were lovely. Cleanliness good on the whole but the carpet in our bedroom was very stained.
What a fabulous Festive Afternoon tea with the family to celebrate our mums 94th Birthday. We had a wonderful tea with prosecco, scones, plus lots of other lovely savouries and sweets. Thank you to the hotel and the thoughtful and attentive staff for such a memorable birthday for mum.
