Il mio soggiorno al Warldorf Astoria Shanghai sul Bund può essere classificato eccellente. La struttura è molto bella e curata. La camera bellissima e con una parete di cristallo si affaccia sullo skayline del Pudong;
addormentarsi davanti a tanto spettacolo ha reso il soggiorno emozionante. Il personale è molto gentile, accorto e professionale. La colazione molto ricca, sia occidentale che cinese. Una bellissima esperienza!!

La stanza e le parti comune dell'ala Heritage

Cons:

La recensione si riferisce all’ala Heritage del Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. Premetto che la King Heritage Suite e l’edificio storico dell’ex Shanghai Club erano davvero molto belli: ambienti eleganti, ricchi di fascino e coerenti con l’idea di un grande hotel storico. Proprio per questo, l’esperienza complessiva è stata ancora più deludente. Per due giorni le parti comuni dell’ala storica sono state sostanzialmente occupate da un evento privato, con invitati che circolavano ovunque. Nulla da eccepire sul diritto dell’hotel di ospitare eventi, ma chi paga una suite nell’ala Heritage paga anche l’atmosfera, la quiete e la possibilità di vivere gli spazi storici, non soltanto un letto. Ancora più grave è stata la presenza continua di ragazze non ospiti intente a fotografarsi in ogni angolo dell’hotel, non solo nelle aree pubbliche, ma anche nei corridoi delle suite e persino negli ascensori. Una situazione francamente intollerabile per un albergo che vorrebbe presentarsi come indirizzo esclusivo. Nessuno controllava, nessuno interveniva, nessuno sembrava presidiare gli accessi. Il risultato era un’atmosfera più simile a un set fotografico aperto al pubblico che a un hotel di lusso. Il Salon de Ville, inoltre, era allestito con una collaborazione a tema Hello Kitty, con elementi luminosi e richiami estetici del tutto incompatibili con il fascino storico dell’ex Shanghai Club. Nulla contro l’iniziativa in sé, ma va comunicata chiaramente: chi sceglie l’ala Heritage cerca un’atmosfera classica e raffinata, non un allestimento promozionale infantile. Il servizio è stato il punto più debole. Il check-in è stato freddo, distratto, svolto in piedi e senza alcuna vera accoglienza. Nell’ala Heritage, dove si trovano le suite, l’assenza di personale era totale: non “poco personale”, ma praticamente nessuno. Per un hotel di questa categoria è inconcepibile.

We had an excellent stay at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. The location is truly outstanding, perfect for exploring the city and enjoying the unique atmosphere of the Bund.

The suite we were given was magnificent — very spacious, comfortable and impeccably clean, fully meeting the standards one would expect from a hotel of this category.

We would also particularly like to highlight the excellent quality of the breakfast, both in terms of variety and the quality of the products, as well as the high standard of service throughout the hotel. The staff were always professional, friendly and attentive, making an important contribution to the enjoyment of our stay.

Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the quality of the facilities, cleanliness, comfort and, above all, the level of service. Without a doubt, one of the best hotel experiences of our trip and a hotel we would highly recommend.

Widespread humidity issues at a luxury flagship
Pros:

We booked a stay at this flagship property through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts expecting 5-star Waldorf Astoria standards, but the room quality has been highly disappointing.

Our first room was completely unlivable, reeking of fresh paint fumes with an AC vent that was soaking wet from condensation. When we complained, the Duty Manager got involved and personally showed us a second room. While this second room was slightly better, it still suffers from a distinct, heavy dampness and a persistent musty smell. It is clear that this hotel has a systemic HVAC and humidity issue.

We refused to waste any more of our evening packing bags to change rooms for a third time, so we forced ourselves to stay put in a subpar, damp environment just to avoid further hassle. While the manager physically assisted us with the room swap, the overall service recovery completely lacked a genuine apology for the massive disruption to our stay. For a luxury brand of this caliber, guests should not have to settle for a damp, musty room. Amex FHR travelers should look elsewhere on the Bund until this hotel resolves its structural air-quality issues and retrains its desk staff on proper hospitality.

I would choose somewhere with a little more character
Pros:

Bathroom was lovely

And they were very expensive.
The pool was very small and claustrophobic
