5 out of 5. I attended the crown for my business launch party which was fabulous in the Ballroom. The staff and service were second to none. Food amazing and my hotel room lovely.
Great stay, lovely place, amazing staff! I would definitely recommend to anyone and I’m looking forward to having a reason to come back! First class all round, but a special mention to the fabulous staff who really made it special. Thanks so much! Xx
Lovely welcome in this old inn and, as a solo traveller, I was looked after while eating on the bar.
I gather the pub renovations are a work in progress, but the room was fine for the price, and quiet. Tiny bathroom had some issues but the water was hot..
This Hotel has been recently renovated to a hugely improved standard . We did not take food other than Breakfast after a one night stay, and this was excellent. Probably the best breakfast I’ve ever encountered whilst staying in a hotel.
Great Staff and amenities.
Great hotel/restaurant accommodation was first class clean warm comfortable. Food was v-good as was the beer . Great value definitely recommend
The room was upgraded and the price also reduced due to a last minute booking. A lovely room with lovely facilities
Lovely hotel. Very welcoming staff. Really enjoyable stay. A variety of a quiet bar & a more lively bar with some live music.
Lovely old building, staff were fantastic. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, coffee cups a bit small for my liking (but I am a coffee addict). Will definitely stay again.
Lovely room and stay, would have loved to have stayed longer and try the breakfast there too!
Faringdon is a lovely charming town
AN EXPERIENCE NOT TO PASS BY!
What a fabulous find, this hotel, pub, wine bar and restaurant has everything you will ever need for a perfect stay. At a drop of a hat I had booked into the most old quirky building ever, so pretty, old and clean. We slept in a lovey clean white linen bed, big fluffy towels and a good quality coffee in our room (complimentary water bottles) settled in lovely. Then onto the Wine/Cocktail Bar for pre dinner drinks, onto the stunning restaurant for beautiful food, then down to the pub for live music and after dinner drinks. What more can you ask for for a perfect evening??? Yep, what made it perfect was the cooked breakfast in the morning. It's was huge, and so bumming tasty (I wanted to box up the left overs to take home, but my partner wouldn't let me, sad times) and above all this loveliness the staff, everyone of them all made us both feel so welcome and were all so professional, great additions to a great stay. Thank you
Eve and Welsh Babe x
The hotel is an old building in a great location, the room I stayed in was clean and tidy but there's a fair climb up a flight of stairs to get to it which was fine for me but a less able bodied person might struggle. Staff are very friendly and the food is excellent, I'd definitely stay here again.
Friendly staff - Wonderful Food - Great rooms - Dog friendly
We spent a fab weekend at the Old Crown in early October, an atmospheric old coaching inn absolutely dripping with history but with comfortable beds. Built on several levels it offers a Cocktail Bar, warm snug with open fire and a outstanding restaurant. Sam the Inn's wizard chef dazzles with unusual dishes prepared in innovative ways. (Pigeon breast with salt crusted beetroot being just one example...normally my husband would run a million miles from beetroot.) Staff are super helpful and there is a full programme of musical events throughout the summer if you fancy a bop with live music.
Faringdon is the perfect base for exploring the Vale of the White Horse. We enjoyed some fabulous walks : in Faringdon itself to the Folly near to the Old Crown, to the ancient White Horse Hill and around Badbury taking in the 1000 year-old Great Coxwell Barn...all without sheep (essential for the keen dog walker)...simply a 5 STAR all-round experience
Came here for Sunday lunch with family and have to say the food was fantastic and very well priced especially considering its 2 Rosette level. Two courses for £30 and three courses for £35 is great value as you can quite easily pay £25+ for a Sunday roast in the local area.
There is service charge added on top though and we found the service a little hit and miss.. a young team of Waiters/Waitresses, there was no enjoy your meal, no check back, no one came to ask if we wanted another drink with a table full of empty glasses, no how was your meal when clearing, etc. Had to chase some one down for the bill and then after 10+ mins of sitting there ended up going to the bar to pay as no one came over with a PDQ machine. Service aside, would not hesitate to return as the food was great!
Characterful,Cosy and Comfortable old Inn with good dining, great ales, crackling fires.
Very affable Host and happy thoughtful staff. Busses routes from outside the Inn.
Unpretensiously correct in service and attention.in all departements. G.F.
Great location great service but they need to fix the heating, room was very cold.
Room smelt of drains, noise from staff talking and laughing in rooms below from 6 am Sunday morning felt like they were in the same room.
If you want breakfast they charge extra for tea and coffee and add a service charge. So a full English and 2 coffees is over £25 - that is taking the mickey as I would not pay that in a 5* hotel in London.
We visited The Old Crown on Sunday to celebrate my partner's birthday. This venue is local to us and it's great to have a decent pub within walking distance. I was there for a drink with my son last week and have used it has a venue to meet friends. All good. Until yesterday. The first thing to say is that the food was great. Kudos to the chef. Of the four people who alternated serving our table three were, similarly, great. Cheerful and helpful. A couple of mistakes were made. A wrong drink for my partner. Wrong meat on one of the plates but both issues were resolved with grace and speed. It all went down hill later. I had been drinking Pinot Blush. I'd already had two medium glasses. Desserts were ordered but I didn't want a sweet in favour of a third glass of Pinot. When it arrived it was immediately obvious it was not what I'd ordered. Obvious because of the colour. I was assured with certainty that I was wrong and he knew because "I poured it myself." He then left making it clear that the conversation was over. I did not drink the wine leaving me the only person at the table with nothing to eat and nothing to drink. My friend drank it in the end. All of that was bad enough but worse was to come. I was alerted via an elbow in the ribs and a nod to the bar that there was something I should hear. That turned out to be the same waiter talking about me. He was asserting that I had "just changed my mind" and that "I'm not going up there again." True to his word he didn't and that's probably not a bad thing. I was dissuaded from challenging him on the grounds that no one wanted to further spoil the atmosphere but I remain both furious and puzzled. We were a polite, good humoured party. Adequate thank yous and smiles. We were not difficult at all. Up to that point we'd had a lovely time so it's a great shame our lunch should have been marred by one graceless @*$e. Shame.
Visiting Oxford Uni. It was a pleasure to return to the Old Crown, relax in the bar and eat fantastic food
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and very clean. Very nice pub and restaurant as well.
Wonderful welcoming. Great customer service. Lovely hotel perfectly segmented into different requirements. Restaurant for dining, bar food location. Courtyard option for dining socialising / enjoying weather. Cocktail bar and a cellar type bar for live music.
