Charming historic hotel with great potential that requires more well trained staff
Pros:

We had a lovely, spacious, comfortable and well appointed room. The hotel is full of old world charm and character. It is set in lovely grounds. The food was very nice, especially breakfast and the drinks were reasonably priced.

Cons:

It was very short staffed with just two young people covering the reception, restaurant and bar. We were shocked the bar was closed just after 9.00pm and a customer was turned away when requesting a drink. We had to move, with our board game to another room as both staff members were going home and locking up. Disappointing we couldn’t get a sandwich or snack and only a set meal for lunch. The sauna was not ready to use. The wine at dinner was forgotten and then plonked down on the table without removing the top and pouring out for tasting. I was given chips instead of the potatoes I ordered but these were brought out later when I had nearly finished my meal. So staff training is obviously needed. I would stress however that both staff members were very friendly and helpful and did their best under the pressure they were obviously under. We really like the hotel and will probably return so hope these criticisms help to improve the service aspects which I have pointed out. We really hope this lovely hotel survives and appreciate the hugely increased costs of running a business that have forced companies to cut down on staff numbers but comprehensive training is essential. A night porter would be very helpful as far as having a member of staff available for late guests checking in and for serving in the bar.

Standard room review
Pros:

The conservatory was nice for breakfast

Cons:

My standard room was horrible, I didn't like sleeping in there, maybe I star. Online said bathrobe and slippers, it was all very basic, was pleased to leave the room.

Pros:

Interesting to see and loved the pool.
Lovely meals

Cons:

Third world problems I know but we did mention we’d need new towels after using the pool three times and still ended up using hand towels to shower. This spoilt what would have otherwise been have been a perfect stay. No phones in the room to call reception meant we just dealt with what we had at hand.

Good value but old and tired.
Pros:

Good location, breakfast room has a nice feel, staff were professional and friendly.

Cons:

The property is tired, this reflects on the low price per room which is fine but the general cleanliness was sorely lacking unfortunately.
