Pros:

The hotel is stunning. I was so impressed with the cleanliness and modernness of the room! Knowing the hotel is a historic building, I did not expect that. I appreciated the friendliness and efficiency of the associate who handled our check in. The parking included is a bonus!

Pros:

Always a nice stay, convenient location, friendly staff. The area has changed a bit over the years, with less-than-desirables. They used to serve a continental breakfast, but no more.

Pros:

Our only interacction with staff was at check-in, hotel bar and check-out. Check-in reception was friendly and courteous. The bartender wasn't the most friendliest but he was alone and it did get busy. The room was typical for an old property, the bathroom was great and clean. The mattress was extremely hard. We both woke up with hip and leg pain. In the morning, Sunday June 15th, at around 7:30 i went to the libby to see if they had coffee and asked a gentlemen walking in, probably to start yis shift, and he walked past me without saying a word. Check out was a breeze.

Hotel was great. However, I paid for the parking by accident using QR code in the lot. The parking was included in the price. they would not reimburse me for what I spent. $13

Pros:

The American Hotel in Freehold, NJ, is more than just a place to stay—it’s a living piece of American history beautifully restored for the modern traveler. Originally built in 1824, the hotel has long stood as a central fixture in the heart of downtown Freehold. Its most notable claim to fame is that President Abraham Lincoln stayed here in 1861 while en route to Washington, D.C., making it a site of real historic significance.

In 2005—the hotel was given new life thanks to a meticulous and thoughtful $3.5 million renovation. The result is a seamless blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort. From the elegant moldings and classic architecture to the updated guest rooms with modern amenities, every corner of the American Hotel reflects respect for its storied past while catering to today’s expectations.

The guest rooms are spacious and beautiful decorated. It also has a stylish on-site restaurant, The Standard, which offers upscale American cuisine in a warm and inviting setting. The hotel also includes spacious banquet rooms ideal for weddings, galas, and community events, making it a centerpiece of Freehold’s downtown life once again.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a weekend traveler, or someone looking to host a memorable event in a one-of-a-kind venue, The American Hotel delivers a truly unique experience. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a place to connect with the past while enjoying the best of the present.

Pros:

They charged me a $27 fee for “amenities” such as a “free” welcome drink, parking (which is free on weekdays anyways, WiFi, and a coffee maker (I don’t drink coffee. So I paid $27 to get a “free” drink. That sucks.

Beautiful Hotel!
Pros:

Beautiful hotel! Small, charming, clean, and beautiful. Can't say enough good things about it! Great location on Main Street in Freehold, NJ. Within walking distance to so many restaurants/shops. The hotel also has a great bar/restaurant, The Standard, that has a great menu with delicious good. The staff is friendly and the hotel itself is exceptionally clean. Beautiful, super spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. My ONLY complaint would be the lack of outlets in the room. Other than that, I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!
