Clean comfortable and friendly staff
Nothing
Comfortable bed. Clean.
The restaurant isn’t open on weekends and since we don’t have a car, finding somewhere to eat was limited. The menu at the hotel was limited and expensive.
Close, clean and staff are lovely
Tv had no fox footy and pillows are terrible but bed is comfortable
Facilities excellent, pillows were great. Dinner and breakfast good too.
The table knives were blunt, needed sharpening.
In terms of the room itself and the service at the Mantra Charles Hotel, I couldn’t fault either of them. The room was immaculately clean and well equipped with the following:
- Comfortable bed that hit the sweet spot between being a marshmallow and rock hard
- Cupboard with sufficient space for clothing plus a luggage rack
- Kitchenette with a hot plate, microwave and sink; having a separate sink in the main room of the motel is very rare. I loved it and not having to use the same sink I use to wash my hands after the toilet to wash my dishes
- Pleasantly hot shower
The staff were also great, especially the assistant manager. Case in point: I needed to do some laundry and realised I didn’t have change or even any cash to swap for change. The assistant manager was able to simply charge some change to my room and I was able to settle the bill at check out instead of having to waste time looking for out a supermarket or ATM. I really appreciated this.
One thing I wasn’t impressed with, though, was the parking situation. I estimate there were less than 20 spots for the entire motel. The motel itself is located behind Launceston General Hospital (yes, handy if you have an emergency) and shared the same building as DVA and a few other companies. You had to look really carefully at the reserved signs or risk being fined and/or towed away. Street parking was a bit of a walk to the front door; not conducive if you have a lot of luggage and given how steep the hill is, I wouldn’t want to try lugging a luggage cart from the car to the motel.
I also wasn’t that keen on the dining options. The first night, I ordered a steak sandwich by room service which was great. The breakfast options, however, were very pricey and too heavy first thing in the morning. There weren’t any options to purchase basic breakfast packs (eg. Bread to toast, juice, mini packs of cereal, etc) or even a continental breakfast option whether dine in or room service. Lucky for me there was a McDonalds down the hill and a little cafe called Aroma Cafe about 100 m away.
I would also like to see them modernise the laundry. There was only one washing machine and dryer there and they looked to be close to 40 years old. Both coin operated if you’ll see my comments above. Even washing powder had to be purchased through a coin operated slot machine. In a society where fewer people are carrying cash and/or coins, it’s a pain in the backside not having the option to pay by card. Plenty pf laundromats are doing this nowadays. It’s time for Mantra Charles Hotel to follow their lead and modernise.
