After reading reviews about after hours arrival problems I contacted the hotel direct and informed reception that I estimated our arrival to be sometime between 11 pm and midnight. The reception said this was OK. Our travel company must have had previous problems as they rang us to say that they had confirmation in writing that the hotel would accommodate our late arrival. At the airport our flight was delayed by an hour, I tried to contact the hotel several times to let them know but could not get through. We arrived at the hotel at midnight, all was in darkness. No one answered the phone and we were banging on the door. Fortunately someone had not locked a side door to the stairwell, we gained access and spent the night on a small couch. At 8am reception staff arrived where we raised our concerns and disappointment only to be told it was not their problem, speak to your travel provider. We are in our late 70s and do not need this sort of treatment. Not only did this cause a great deal of stress but also the discomfort of spending the night on a couch triggered a great deal of physical pain. We also complained about a leaking toilet, this remained leaking for the duration of our two week stay.
After this experience the staff were pleasant, the hotel was basic but kept very clean and is very well situated. Unfortunately we will not be returning.
Great room and lovely staff.
MOTEL NOT HOTEL! Empty motel, no 24hr concierge- you’re left on your own after 7pm. Zero amenities- forced to carry passports and cash on you at all times as lock box was broken. No functioning kitchen or bar- no real reason to book this place. Ironically this ended up being the most expensive accommodation of our 3 places in Portugal, and was by far the worst. Don’t book here!
This was easily the most expensive yet lowest-quality hotel of all the hotels I stayed in for Portugal.. The room was small, with no amenities, and the lock box was broken as well no counter space. There was a strange smell throughout the building, and by the end of our stay, there were maybe five guests total in the whole hotel—it felt deserted.
There’s no 24-hour concierge; we had to let ourselves in at night and lock the door behind us, and there were no lights left on anywhere. Staff were not very helpful, and the whole place had a weird, unwelcoming vibe.
Yes, it’s fairly central, but that’s the only positive I can give. Save your money—there are far better options in Lagos.
The property was very old. The room smelled terrible the entire stay. In the room itself there was only one outlet to plug things in. The hotel is a lot older than shown in the photos online.
This hotel was clean and centrally located. Please be aware that they charge 7euros per luggage if you need luggage storage ahead of your check-in. Also, be aware that rooms do not have mini fridges, and some rooms have old and weak A/C units.
Hotel is dated but within 10 minutes walking distance of the Harbour and old town. Supermarket 5 minutes walk away. Overall positive 2 night stay.
The hotel is situated in a good position, close to the marina and the old town. the place was clean and staff friendly. We had a room at the front next to a busy road and the traffic noise was constant through the day and most of the night. Beds were clean and comfortable and the pool area was lovely. But the breakfast was dismal. Different cereals were just piled up in one container so it all mixed together, there was only bread for toast with either ham or cheese slices and on the last day they ran out of jam. The variety of drinks was poor and even the orange juice was concentrate from a carton. Hardly any fresh fruit but some tinned peaches. No hot food, no fresh fruit, no pastries. As the hotel is classed as 3 star I found everything acceptable except the breakfast.
The accommodation is not as described on the website. It was described as a 3 star hotel, but is barely a one star motel. The hotel claimed to offer ‘modern standard of comfort, whilst maintaining a friendly and efficient service’. However, this is contrary to my experience. I was also informed on checking in that I was not allowed any visitors, this was not in any way stated on the website and defeats the purpose of the use of a hotel. In a bid to make sure I could not have any visitors, they gained access to my room without my knowledge or request and removed two out of the four pillows on the bed. When I complained about all of this, I was told, that those were their rules, as if I was in a dormitory. It would appear that these so called rules were suddenly created solely for myself to adhere to as I could see people of other races come in and go out in threes and fours and use the amenities freely. When I made this known, I was told there was nothing I could do and the manager even murmured a racial slur. Bearing in mind, all of this happened within 3/4hours of checking in. Also the bed was wobbly and appeared as though it would collapse if I moved too vigorously in it. The beddings appeared also to be worn out and shabby and not modern as advertised. This hotel did not meet the promised standard of service and significantly deviates from what had been advertised. I even tried to resolve amicably with them, however I was met with a dismissive response.
Excellent location, near Marina and bus station! Walking distance to tourist area!
1. Good: Just behind the Marina, close to railway station & boat trips. Large bedroom & bathroom, very clean. We were in a side room with little or no traffic noise (no balcony). Pingu Doce supermarket short walk away, with cafe
Lago town, across the river is buzzing. Book restaurants to avoid queuing
2. Needs improving: breakfast was limited & the same every day (Breakfast stay very cheerful.
Bar: Drinks menu & actual availability different e.g. Sangria by glass/ only by litre, draught beer, only bottled. we only had 1 drink during whole stay.
3. Hotel felt tired & in need of a revamp.
The hotel is in a good location for the marina and beach, although it is situated on a noisy main road. I should image in its day it was a great hotel but the rooms are in need of updating. Our toilet seat didn’t fit and there was a shower in the bath with a shower curtain.
There was an extra charge to use the safe in the room.
The breakfast was ok but the same each day with a collection of many cereals, the coffee from the machine wasn’t very nice at all. We didn’t use the pool, it was small and there weren’t many sun beds.
However, the staff were helpful and friendly and Lagos was sunny with beautiful beaches.
Had a good time at this hotel. Very simple and staff very nice and friendly.
The reception area isn’t very inviting there wasn’t a very nice smell when we arrived . The breakfast isn’t very plentiful the coffee is awful . The bar opens at 10 am I got served one drink then it promptly closed . The pool area is the best feature of this hotel and the location . I used the wrong door during the day and got told off ! . Felt a bit regimented at the hotel . The cleaning staff are the friendliest .
Its the worst hotel I’ve ever been into. The toilet smelled bad, the AC barely works and you need to be in the room, or else it shuts down because they refuse to give you 2 key-cards ( you need one so the electricity runs). There was only a broken safe in the room. No fridge, no coffee machine, no nothing. Average breakfast. The soap stinks. We asked for help to Monika and she was very rude. Would not recommend this to my worst enemy, keep your money. The hotel isn’t even well placed (location wise)
This is such a beautiful traditional Portuguese hotel, it's just across the road from Lagos marina which has some beautiful bars & restaurants. You can go over the bridge at the marina to the town which is very lively at night, lots of queues to get into the restaurants tho. The hotel has a lovely pool at the back, small with around 8 beds, it's a suntrap and so peaceful we had it to ourselves most days. Breakfast isnt great, the coffee wasn't nice at all and there is only one 2 slice toaster which ment that people were literally queuing up for it. There was ham & cheese, some fruit or cereal. The rooms are spotless with good wardrobe space and bedside drawers, the bathroom has a shower over the bath and has good pressure. The beds are comfortable enough with extra pillows in the wardrobe. We were at the front of the hotel and the noise from the road is horrendous, it doesn't stop all day & night long but that was the only problem throughout our stay. The staff are all really friendly especially Fatima & Monika. We would 100% come back but only if we could get a room at the back where its a bit quieter. Overall it's a lovely hotel and spotlessly clean.
I came to this hotel as it was near the train station and marina. Location is very convenient to walk to the beaches as well as old town. There is also a large supermarket (Pingo Doce) around the corner where you can get everything including cheap meals.
Positives:
Great location, very friendly staff, clean and comfortable bed. We had a bedroom facing the pool and it was very quiet.
Negatives:
They keep lights off even in the lobby. This makes the lobby very uninviting.
They block access to the lobby after midnight and you need to use the side entrance with stairs. This means when you check out at 6am, you need to carry your luggage down the stairs as the elevator is locked for lobby level.
Breakfast is simple which is fine, but coffee is terrible. Although they have an automatic coffee machine, it uses instant coffee which taste terrible. I'm fine with limited variety for food, but coffee is important.
Shampoo in the bathroom smells like car wash. Also imagine having a drop left of shampoo and filling the bottle with water. That was the consistency of the shampoo and soap.
TV majority of channels are unwatchable as reception is very bad.
I wasn't going to post a negative review, but there were so many things wrong other than staff being friendly and helpful.
What this place needs is new management and some money to put into the business. This place has potential to be Great again. This place is ok, but make sure you come with the right expectation. Skip breakfast and go to the supermarket foe better breakfast.
Very old basic hotel, suitable for only 1/2 nights stop over.
Breakfast very poor.
Would not use again.
This hotel is designed like a tradition Portuguese building based around a central courtyard and is decorated and furnished in the same traditional (if old fashioned) style. A good location, a 10 minute walk from both the train and bush stations, 5 minutes from the marina and 20 minutes from the beach or the old town. With a supermarket only 5 minutes away. The room was large enough for my requirements as was the bathroom and there was a small balcony. The bed was very comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. Every was very clean and tidy. All the staff were nice and friendly and especially Monika on reception who was most helpful and supplied useful local information. The breakfast is adequate but there is no choice of anything hot, would be improved if they just offered eggs scrambled or boiled) in addition to what is on offer. As a bonus there is a small swimming pool with a few sun loungers, I used this pool every day when I returned to the hotel and I was the only one using it.
We just needed a place to sleep because our house construction was running behind schedule. However, I did not expect to be walking into this kind of place at all. It felt like you were in 70’s. I asked the wonderful receptionist for some ice, which is standard in most hotels, and she provided me with a plastic cup with some ice cubes, while we waited, we overheard the hotel owner telling her, “if they want more, they can go buy it.” The lights in the lobby were all shut off, the light bulbs in the room were unscrewed, the toaster during breakfast had the settings so low that you had to wait for your bread to toast for almost a half an hour. The level of service and amenities is non - existent. The Receptionist in the evening shift was lovely, but all other workers looked scared and the place looks like the management is focusing on collecting the money and not providing any type of service.
