Very comfortable hotel

Love the character in bedroom and views from window. All of Castle hotel is lovely.
So much nicer than a modern hotel.
Breakfast was buffet and staff bringing hot breakfast choice from menu, good breakfast time too instead of having to rush eatng food and be out of restaurant.
No problems
Our room,202, was spacious and quite well appointed. We liked the window seat, although it was quite small. The coffee machine was welcome although we had to guess how to use it without any instructions. Plenty of other tea/coffee etc. A roomy wardrobe , with poorly hung doors , but a bit short on drawer space. Fairly large T V, but again, no instructions on how to use the 2 controls. Couple of extra chairs provided which were useful.
Bathroom of ample size with a radiator that really warmed it up. Large bath with shower over and it was nice to see a grab handle. A good range of toiletries, and ample towels. We liked the optional low level lighting, useful for middle of the night visits! All in all, a comfortable room.
Had a meal one night in the restaurant, the food was good with plenty of choice.
We had booked for a 3 night stay, but left after two. We found the bed really uncomfortable and ended up with backache. The pillows were what I call 'dead'. We did get one changed but it wasn't much better. Decided to call it quits and head home. This was a shame as we had enjoyed our stay up then, and a previous stay had been fine.

Parking a bonus
A bit noisy very early due to bin wagons each morning pre 6am x 3 wagons but we were on the front. Not the hotels fault!
The Flat Iron Steak wasn’t the best in their restaurant but excellent breakfast!

The location of the hotel is perfect. The breakfast is excellent, whilst the evening meal was very good.
The noise outside the hotel is excessive. Bin collections appeared to occur every morning at 6am.

Food was poor. We had dinner and breakfast, both poor.
Location
Noise. The clock tower bells every 15 minutes all night long. As the staff their say, a quirk of being so central. But ear plugs work.

The corridors smelt lovely and were lit by Tiffany lamps, giving it a warm comfortable feeling.The food was good and tasty.

Food was good but the highest room and no lift was hard going as I am not very mobile as I have a bad leg and I struggled a lot
