Beautiful room but food, plumbing and spa services did not compute!
Pros:

There’s nothing more disappointing than booking a PH suite at more than $400/day and having plumbing issue whereby you are standing in a shower with inches of regurgitated back-flow.

That may have been overlooked, if it hadn’t been for unsatisfactory services to boot:

1) The hotel is on top of a steep cliff and walking to close by restaurants isn’t really an option for food and spa services.
2) never before have I had three toes bleed in one pedicure. The spa “technician” had the nerve to get an attitude when I asked him not to be so rough. To add to that, the foot bath was a cheap bucket brought out without electricity for a 5 minute plunge in an hour long session.
3) the food at the breakfast bistro was an epic failure. With only 3 other occupied tables at the time (all with food), I waited 30 minutes for scrambled eggs and hash browns. After asking 3 times about the status of my order, they finally brought out cold hash browns so soaked in cooking oil they were inedible. I left and paid in a rush to go to a yoga class of site.
4) the final nail in the coffin: upon checkout I notified the concierge Simon, who had been helpful from the beginning, of these issues. He assured me that they would make an accommodation via our chat message. I told the cashier about that upon checkout. He said Simon would take care of it after I closed out the bill. And of course, due to the “technicality” of the bill being closed out, I was told there was nothing they could do any longer!

What a waste of money! Go stay at a real $400/night resort in PVR and get your money’s worth…because it didn’t happen for me here….

The best place to stay in PV
Pros:

Perfect in every way. Incredibly well maintained, beautiful oasis, a place to relax and enjoy oneself, but slightly out of the downtown area. Easy access to the beach, and the hotel will even drive you there if you're not in the mood to walk down the hill. Our suite was amazing, and the staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. Not our first visit to Casa Cupula, and certainly not our last.

Pros:

Nice room and friendly staff; very nice pool area for gay parties

Cons:

Got the room under the pool area. Don’t book it if you want to sleep: from 8 am on Sunday morning I could hear a lot of noise above my head

Pros:

The property itself is so beautiful, clean, and a great deal for your vacation stay! I stayed 4 nights and the only complaint i jave is walking to and from romantic zone. If you dont mind walking ots about 12 min on foot but its kind of a workout back up the hill and stairs when its hot. Other tha. That the property was perfect. Restraunt had delicious cesar salad and civiche

Casa Cupula is a Fantastic Find!
Pros:

What a fantastic find! We stayed at Casa Cupula last week and I am still in the afterglow. It is perched amongst a jungle-like setting (which means if you're walking to the nearby market you'll have to walk down a hill) and not directly in the zona romantica which is fine as who wants to be in the middle of everything all the time. The staff is very accommodating, very professional and laid back. They have a shuttle into town during daylight hours, so special judos to Angel who felt like our personal driver. They have two pools (one clothing optional), jacuzzis and one of the best hotel gyms I've seen. The grounds and hotel are spotless. The. best part? Our room (or should I say apartment) which had a living room, dining area, full kitchen and great master suite. Saturday afternoon is party time so all the local gays visited. A great hotel and time.

Great Expeirnce Plan To Return
Pros:

After arriving at Casa Cupola I quickly realized that I had made the correct choice in accomadations. The facility consists of an historic villa. The newer addition to the property demonstrates a tasteful blend of old and new. Rooms are more than sufficiently appointed. Towels are superior quality. The location is a bit off the beaten path creating a more tropical natural setting. Much more desirable than the concrete reality of nearby condo row. However it is only a very short Taxi or Uber ride to the nearby Romantica Zone. Wait time for ride share or a taxi was never more than 15 minutes. There is both a convenience store and pharmacy within walking distance. The onsite restaurant is available for breakfast and lunch and is extremely convenient. The gym is larger and better equipped than the average hotel gym. I did not take advantage of the services offered by the spa. I cannot say enough about the staff at Casa Cupola. Your stay at Casa Cupola will also be supporting an LGBT owned and operated business. The Saturday pool party and Sunday Brunch offered an opportunity for meeting and mingling with other hotel quests. Fortunately the hotel allows non quests to attend these events for a reasonable fee. I met several other Americans from nearby hotels or condos along with locals. I recall one couple from an all inclusive resort regretting that they had not booked at Casa Cupola. I have plans to return to PV and will definitely choose Casa Cupola for any return visits.

Fun Show
Pros:

Came out for the Saturday pool event — the host and the show were definitely the highlights! Super creative with great energy, interactive games, and an all-around fun atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the bar was a different story. It felt disorganized and messy, and the cocktails were subpar. The server had a really unpleasant attitude. We left a $6 tip for four drinks, and he actually told us it wasn’t enough, which made the situation very uncomfortable.

To top it off, his uniform was messy and had food stains, which didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Honestly, the service didn’t warrant an exceptional tip, and the way it was handled left a bad impression.

Overall, the event has potential, but they seriously need to invest in staff training — both in customer service and basic bartending skills.

Pros:

We absolutely loved everything about this property. It was our 20th anniversary, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. We have no complaints. We even changed plans for our December trip to Brazil so that we could spend the time in Puerto Vallarta at this hotel.

This time, Casa Cupola did not meet our expectations.
Cons:

I have stayed there before. The last time was about 10 years ago. Casa Cupola has seen better days. The facilities were a bit run down. The room needed a make over. Bed comforter had holes in it. Bathroom was a bit dingey. TV never worked although we didn't try after the first day. Was supposed to have an ocan view, but you had to look way to the left to see it. We were in a suite, room 301. Although I feel it was an adequate value, will probably stay elsewhere next time in PV.

Pros:

The staff welcomed me in a way that I felt I was visiting family ! The hotel is amazing. As a solo traveler had a lot of fun and was able to host my friends in common areas. The hotel surrounds are safe. Boris, the hotel manager and Noel, pool bar attendant were amazing. Cannot wait to book my next getaway in Puerto Vallarta!!

Wonderful retreat!
Pros:

Super friendly and helpful staff. This place is a gem and walking distance to the gay beach and nightlife while still maintaining a secluded vibe up in the hills. I had a beautiful view from my room and loved all the amenities including the gym. The pool bar was great for socializing and the restaurant on site was great for a late morning breakfast. This is my 3rd stay here and I will be back again!

Not Impressed
Pros:

We booked a cabana for the Adam & Steve pool party months in advance. When we arrived, we found that they had given the ONLY cabana to another party. They placed us in a couple of “VIP” double lounges by the pool stating that it was comparable. The cabana is on a separate floor, very private with its own hot tub. The lounges were in between the pool and bar in a very high traffic area. The cushions were dirty. Not comparable at all! The overall space was dirty as well. The go-go dancers constantly harassed us for tips. Very disappointed with the experience. We would not go back.

I’d stay elsewhere. Needs updating.
Pros:

We just returned from an annual trip to PV, which included our first stay at Casa Cupala. We based our choice on the previous reviews and high ratings, so felt it was appropriate to share our experience. I'm listing our obversations below, but in short, we wouldn't stay at Casa Cupala again. Based on the price, product and our experience this is our review (as compared to experiences at other clothing options gay hotels such as Pineapple Point in Floriday and Twin Palms in Palm Springs). For the price, there are several other options in gay options in PV I'd pick over this - even though they don't have 'clothing optional'.

Pros
Beautiful views
Our room was very comfortable (we stayed in one of the suits). It was very quiet and comfortable.
Staff - as others have noted, the staff is very attentive and helpful.
Food - we only ate breakfast at the Bistro, and it was enjoyable. Most mornings they also gave us a complimentary sweet (hot out-of-the oven muffins, valentines day cookies, etc).
Clothing optional - if this is important, it's available only at the pool club (which is only open from noon-7pm)
Neutral
Accessibility - if accessibilty is important to you, you'll struggle at this resort. There are stairs everywhere - even within our suite. We would tend to walk into town, and between the resort and the public stairs, i counted approximately 250 steps down before we were in town. Ubers are inexpensive, so if stairts are a challenge, you can get an uber/to from

Cons
Upkeep - while the room was comfortable and clean, the resort is dated and is in need of some updating (more noted below)
Pool - the pool club is only open from noon-7pm. Im an early riser, and was hoping to sit in the hot tub, but was informed that the pool club is only available at noon. This makes no sense to me. I was told i could use the other pool / hot tub, but the other hot tub wasn't working.
Gym - the gym has a strong oder (mold?) and a number of pieces of equipment aren't working properly
Weekend Pool Parties - they are very loud and feel "forced" with a MC who forces people to engage by asking where they are from, if they are single, etc etc. And there is a "secret garden" that gives the vibe a bit of a bathhouse feel. No judgement, but very different from other clothing optional resorts I've stayed at in the past. Also, hotel guests don't get preference with seating at the weekend pool parties - you'll be told that you can sit at one of the high top tables in the back for no fee, or reserve chaise lounges or a couple other tables with a minimum spend of $150. This is on top of the $400+ you're paying per night.
Suggestions for the hotel
Pool club - figure out a way to make the pool club available 24/7 like other clothing optional pools, or at the very least extend the hours so people can enjoy it in the morning and late into the evening. Other clothing option hotels do this (Pineapple Point in FL, Twin Palms in PS, etc) - you can figure this out.
Invest some money into the main pool, gym, second hot tub, etc. Even the electronics in the room can use a bit of updating. I don't know the last time i saw a radio receiver for music.
Host an evening happy hour for hotel guests to give them a chance to mingle and get to know each other

Not worth it.
Pros:

Went with my partner. First of all they will be super nice to you over the emails but ignore you when you get there.
The hotel food and drinks are super expensive and do not open a tab as they charge other people’s drinks to your tab.
Our room had water coming from the air conditioner and they gave us a room beneath the pool bar where we could hear chairs dragging all the time.
I did not find the staff friendly at all. Wouldn’t go back and don’t recommend going.
Also had a burger that was undercook that landed me in the hospital.
