Needed an overnight stay in or near Brecon and this ticked all the boxes. Quiet, out-of-town (*), pool and fitness facilities, a great breakfast and medium priced for this type of hotel.
Pluses: location, privacy and good night's sleep in very comfortable bed, lovely staff (shout out to Gabs who found us a charger adaptor when we'd left ours at home), decent pool with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fitness centre, nice bar with outdoor terrace for the warm summer evening, and the breakfast (more below).
Slight negatives: it was warm - at the end of 3 weeks of heatwave and not easy to keep the rooms cool - fan and portable air con unit just about worked; shower in room 5 was a bit weak and temperature not easily controlled (but cool was fine, as it happens); some signs of wear and tear, but not 'bad' if you don't mind this sort of traditional hotel.
Breakfast: we were all alone for our breakfast and don't know what it might be like if very busy, but frankly it was superb!! Full Welsh for Mrs H, Veggie for me, but the hot breakfast was not either/or with the continental, we had cereal, pastries, juice and toast too!! Spinach in the veggie breakfast a great idea - my suggestion would be to replace soya/quorn sausages with a Glamorgan sausage to make the whole thing perfect. And piping hot. Five Star breakfast, seriously.
(*Finally, we walked the half mile to Red Indigo, the local curry house, rather than eat an evening meal at the hotel - a pre-determined decision. I'm sure on reflection that the evening meal at the hotel would have been great too, but wouldn't put anyone off a stroll into Crickhowell as the alternative. Red Indigo review elsewhere.)
Thanks to all at the Manor Hotel - if we were wanting a night in that neck of the woods again, we'll be back.
Great breakfast and fab location. Lovely staff with nothing to much trouble. Evening meal in the restaurant was superb.
Pool was closed during our stay. Disappointing naturally but these things happen.
Had the pleasure of staying here and thoroughly enjoyed it. During the heat wave the team did an amazing job of keeping the rooms cool. The location is beautiful. Breakfast was divine! Will definitely stay again.
The staff were absolutely lovely and the bed was very comfortable - I had a decent night's sleep once the room cooled down a little but did have to have the fan directly on my face all night for this. The room was a good size and the view was incredible from the giant window in the bedroom.
I stayed in mid July and it was approximately 26° outside when I arrived so not too hot really and I was hoping the room would be a bit cooler, but the room was shockingly hotter than outside. Sadly, there was no aircon, a very small window, and dusty rundown fans, so it was unbearably hot in the room. I arrived at 5pm with the intention of getting some admin done in the room before bed but ended up doing my admin in the car because I honestly couldn't stay in the room. I eventually went up again at 8pm and had a cold bath because the bathroom was the only bearable place.
The shower was also terrible. It was either scolding hot and a gentle dribble, or it was powerful but freezing cold. I eventually filled the bath again and washed my hair with a cup. The cleanliness was also not fabulous - other people's hairs all over the bathroom and desk. However the bed was pristinely clean so I can't fault that.
Also, I chose this hotel over another one locally specifically because it had a swimming pool but was told when I arrived that it was out of service for my stay which was really disappointing. The booklet in the room and the website say that the bar is open until midnight on a Friday so I popped down to get some ice at 10pm because I was still uncomfortably hot and the bar was closed early with nobody working on reception or in any of the communal areas.
Lastly, I had breakfast included which was a great deal and good value for money, but the hot food wasn't the best. Definitely okay and I managed to finish it but nothing to write home about.
I'm so sad to leave such a negative review and want to make sure I say how lovely the staff all were! If the room was a safe temperature and the shower worked properly, it would have been an alright stay for the price but sadly it was a really difficult stay and I wouldn't stay again.
All very nice and relaxed . Food excellent.

Location, views, rooms are huge.
Food was excellent at breakfast and evening meal.
Staff were great.
Comfortable beds.
Windows only had top openings.
Rooms were too hot.
Fans supplied were adequate but far too noisy resulting in disturbed sleep.
Swimming pool area looks dated and grubby. Also, far too warm in there.
