Great location and service, but cleanliness needs attention
Pros:

This was my second stay at the InterContinental Hangzhou, and unfortunately, it wasn't quite as impressive as the first time. The hotel's iconic "Golden Ball" architecture and prime location by the Qiantang River remain fantastic, with stunning views and easy access to the Citizen Center metro station . The service was generally good, and I appreciated the spacious room layout . View was great

However, my main issue this time was with the cleanliness, particularly the carpet in the room. I noticed black dark spots and dirty patches on the carpet, which was quite disappointing for a hotel of this caliber. Looking at other recent reviews, it seems I'm not alone—other guests have mentioned stained or less-than-clean carpets as well .

The hotel does show its age in some areas, with dated facilities and occasional maintenance issues like finicky USB ports or closet doors .

For the price point and the InterContinental brand, I expected better attention to detail in housekeeping. If they can sort out the cleanliness issues, it would easily be a 4.5-star experience. I hope they take this feedback seriously for future guests.

For Chinese standard the breakfast was okay. Some cheese available. Coffee could be better but that is an issue in most hotels.

Cons:

Check-in proved very difficult due to very poor English language capabilities at the reception. They missed one of the two rooms I had booked through booking.com. And they were unwilling or unable to just give us an extra room – booking or not. After some 15 minutes they finally discovered that we had booked two rooms and we got the missing room.
