Pros:

Not worth the money for such poor service and facilities
Pros:

Free Parking

Cons:

No room service and the restaurants had no availability for several nights in a row. The reception staff were unprofessional and showed no interest in asking about my experience or addressing my concerns.

The hotel is also much farther from the university than advertised, making it very inconvenient. Considering the price charged, the room was extremely small and represented very poor value for money.

To make matters worse, on Wednesday the hotel was cleaning the windows while my window had been left open, resulting in my belongings getting soaked.

Overall, this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The hotel charges five-star rates but delivers very little in return. I would not recommend staying here.

5-Star
Pros:

The staff here went above and beyond - I booked the hotel at 11am and although check in wasn't until 3pm I explained to the lovely women on the check in desk (apologies I can't remember her name), that I would like to get into my room asap as I needed to travel somewhere for 3pm. She explained she would try to sort it, and within 15 mins she had ensured I had a room to go to. Also, all 3 meals I had were exceptional (lunch, evening and breakfast).

Cons:

Coffee machine in my room was broken - but this isn't a big deal to be honest, the room did come with a kettle so I was happy.

A perfect 5 night stay!
Pros:

Our room was huge, quiet and comfortable with a spacious, recently renovated bathroom, beautiful views of the surrounding Edinburgh University gardens and Holyrood Park in the distance. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel's superbly refurbished restaurant, Abacus, were top class. The waiting staff, many of whom were students at the Uni, were absolutely delightful. Parking was an added bonus.

Cons:

The building and reception areas are nothing flash, having been part of a student housing precinct before refurbishment, but this just adds to the history and ambience of this remarkable place of refuge in the University gardens.

Sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt im schönen Edinburgh
Pros:

Outstanding Edinburgh Hotel
Pros:

On the campus of the University of Edinburgh, this hotel is set in a park-like area walled off from the noise of the road. Guests at the hotel include scholarly conference attendees, parents of students, and independent travelers like us. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast delicious, and the facilities for evening relaxation lovely. The bus in and out of downtown Edinburgh stops nearby. The bus ride into town is about 15-20 minutes depending on where you get out. There are a rich variety of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We have stayed before and love this hotel.
