Everything about the castle and the grounds were fantastic.
Staff very friendly and efficient.
Breakfast is amazing
Will return but maybe upgrade our room.
Excellent value for money.
Nothing to dislike.
Somewhat unique
The decor needs tidying up, the windows all need repainting and repairing and general maintenance of fixtures and fittings. Although characterful it’s all up and down and over the place
Beautiful setting. Lovely grounds
Never available parking in the courtyard. Had to drive round looking for space. Even parked in staff car park one night.
Hard work when unloading on your own
Room wasn’t as clean as I thought.id booked a walk in shower and it was over the bath. The terracotta tiles are very slippery when getting out of the bath
Every morning I was asked to order hot food very quickly. Hadn’t had one mouthful of the fruit and toast several times
Very grand, a real working Castle, which is amazing. The “new” wing dates from 1785, and the rest is from the 1400s. It’s huge, with ballrooms and stunning decorations, and is rightly popular for weddings. (So be aware!) The restaurant was fully booked so we had burgers in the modern and elegant bar, which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We stayed in the Castle in a Superior room, which is reached up some rather tricky stone spiral stairs. Challenging with the bags. The staircase has a secret staff entrance descending to the restaurant, but generally you need to navigate the long flight of outside stairs and go back in to access the lobby and then walk through the cloister to the restaurant. Anyone with mobility issues should stay in the Courtyard rooms which are ground level.
The best bit was getting lost in the meandering corridors and alcoves of the castle/hotel. The absence of "keep out" signs gave it a free and easy feel. Wherever you wondered you were greeted by friendly, happy staff.
Nothing
Booked a stay for my sons 18th birthday and it didn’t disappoint, Polite staff , lovely spacious room , food was delicious and the cocktails yummmmmm , fab stay can’t wait to return
The scrambled eggs on the breakfast were over cooked and rubbery but that’s the only criticism, we had a great stay
The hotel was amazing and such a beautiful location. Although it was on the expensive side for food and drinks it was definitely a wonderful experience for a first time stay.
I did find one of the staff in the bar a bit much but other than that a good experience all round.
The character features were all over the castle and felt we had stepped back in time . Our feature room in the castle was extraordinary and memorable . The staff were all friendly, welcoming and pro efficient. We used the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast , the food was appetising and flavourful, with good service. We took part in a tour of the castle which also over 2 hours and was worthwhile invaluable to understand the history of the castle .
Nothing it was what we expected.
Interesting property in ideally location for our trip , very close to Beamish museum - ideal.
Nothing I didn’t like.
Breakfast was good and the staff gave a very good customer service in all area's of the hotel
The room was a little tired in a few places Plus you have difficulty in parking near to hotel when you have cases to carry
