It was a very nice stay with good food and car parked right outside room
Good choice of food for breakfast and dinner, well prepared and excellent quality.
There was no cask beer
Beds and pillows were comfiest we’ve ever stayed in
The bed was ok and the bedding was clean. There was plenty of storage and the TV worked.
The bedroom smelt of smoke, which was very upsetting. The room needed redecoration, the bathroom door was marked and splashed. The worst aspect was the lack of soundproofing between the rooms - there was a party of young men in the room above us who were very drunk and were shouting until 2.30 am, then again from 7 in the morning, making it impossible to sleep.
When we arrived at the hotel the room next to reception was set out for a wedding - but we had to walk through the wedding room to get to our room, which we thought was a bit strange . We asked the receptionist if there was going to be wedding at the hotel the next day, because we thought if there was we would leave our room before the wedding started and would return after the celebrations were over. But the receptionist said categorically that there wouldn't be a wedding!
When we complained about the rowdy behaviour of the young men the next morning to the receptionist on duty the next day - she said 'oh that was the lads having a stag do before their wedding here today'. So, given the lies from the first receptionist, the lack of sleep overnight on the Friday we decided that we couldn't stay for the second night when there would be more noise from the wedding party and another very disturbed night.
This was a very expensive stay in a 'family run' hotel who clearly have little concern for the comfort of their guests.
Everything was perfect. I have been before and know that I will enjoy the vacation
Leaving to go home
We were met by a lovely waitress claire, she brought our drinks straight away. i ordered the beef stew , my sister ordered the steak sandwich and hand cut chips. My sister enjoyed her sandwich but not as nice as last time, there was hardly any onions in it. My stew had plenty of beef in it and vegetables, but it was lacking in gravy, very dry, anyway i was brought a gravy boat, my meal improved, my dog had the leftovers . Hope they change the menus soon as their meals are not worth the price, and it depends on which chef is on if you get a good meal, We wont be going back for a while,
We spent just the one night here as we were visiting Beamish Museum the next day. The check in process was very easy and the staff member both friendly and informative.
The room itself was nice and relatively modern and had the usual facilities. tea, coffee etc. The only thing that let it down was the shower which was old and didn't seem to have much pressure.
We had a couple of drinks in the bar that evening and when we stayed there were quite a few business men there. The process of the drinks were what you'd expect from a hotel.
Breakfast was great with a continental selection and choice of the usual hot breakfasts. The lady there was very attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her.
Would definitely stay here again, for the price it is excellent value.
Very friendly staff, excellent location for museum and lovely food.
Nothing
What a shame booked again for my birthday, we’d planned to make this a yearly birthday tradition as the year before was amazing! So kind and thoughtful
Unfortunately we rang to say we couldn’t come as my daughter was so unwell (she later had an operation)
We asked if we could come another time and they were so cold about it all.
Booking.com were lovely and requested a refund but the hotel declined and lied saying they never received it.
They even said they’d call me back to discuss but never did.
I never wanted a refund I just wanted to come another day when my daughter was well enough she’s only 3
What a lovely birthday I had 5 days before Christmas . I rarely ever write bad things but it was so cold and quite cruel
We paid a lot and upgraded the room
I went here with my mam for the first time in March 2026. We both really enjoyed it and would love to go back. The restaurant environment was lovely and the waiting staff were very pleasant. I had fish and chips and she had a beef ciabatta - both delicious. Next I had what was possibly the nicest sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever eaten. Would highly recommend.
Pros and cons.
PRO'S: There were 2 of us with our dog. There were dog treats, bed and a water bowl all waiting for us in the room. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was super comfortable. We had a patio and we could park the car right outside the room which was very helpful. The tea and coffee facilities were great. There was also a box of tissues in the room. The bathroom and shower/water pressure was fine. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rate we paid for bed and breakfast was fine (£126).
CON'S: My Katsu curry really did not win any awards. The 'curry' sauce bore little resemblance to katsu and in fact was bland. The fresh chilli that came on the plate was well presented but way too much and overpowered any other taste. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the seaweed was wonderful. My partner had a chicken katsu burger which was tough and very thin.
Having said that, my dessert (Affogato) was the best I have ever eaten and (sort of) made amends for my disappointing main course.
Overall though I would definitely recommend the venue. The location is great and the staff are a pleasure to deal with.
The breakfast was perfect, the hotel is close to a main road but you don’t hear any traffic, the room (32) we stayed in was perfect for us as it has a full size bath and separate shower cubicle in it as well as a massive bed
The only thing that could make things better is if you have any deals for room 32 during the week including breakfast as we are both 80 years young this month
Lovely friendly staff
Nothing
Really lovely staff and an excellent gluten free breakfast selection.
The fact that you could park the car directly outside our room
The heat was uncontrollably in the bathroom way to hot
Quiet peaceful location stunning scenery.
