A beautiful historic hotel with helpful staff who wouldn’t want to stay there.
Pros:

A beautiful building very atmospheric with lots of history attached to it. It also had lovely gardens set beside a country park so there were many options to walk or sit and enjoy nature.

Cons:

Felt the breakfast area wasn’t very well organised it was quite chaotic. The cooked food and hot drinks were crammed into too small an area. It could do with a rethink. The staff coped well in with slightly agitated customers.

Poor experience afternoon tea Combe Abbey
Pros:

Had afternoon tea, the garden room and surrounding amazing. The tables settings impressive, however the actual afternoon tea was very disappointing dry sandwiches scones that were also dry as were the other cakes.
This was a gift from our daughter and had so looked forward to it. Would not recommend it to anyone else.

A beautiful place , so picturesque.
Pros:

We have stayed many times . The breakfast is always excellent. Self service but they provide everything going .

Cons:

They have changed the butter they use though. It sounds picky but I can only eat proper butter .
Also , we upgraded to a grand feature room . Beautiful roll top bath but no nice bubble bath or soap . I wish I would have remembered to take some myself .

Lovely hotel, great welcome
Pros:

The wedding we attended was fabulous, great MC, serving staff, food was lovely and it was a great celebration.
The hotel room - Stayed in the separate building. Standard double. Room was very dark, deep red walls, heavy curtains and dark bedding. Lighting was poor. Room was a good size and bed was comfy. Lacking in good mirrors and plugs. It was lovely and quiet and slept well which is the important part. Everywhere was clean and water pressure and temperature really good. It was hot, expected the room to be hot and it was.
The hotel - Lovely historic building with the character you would expect.. but it is faded in areas, needs a little tlc to repaint, repair wallpapers, trims etc in public areas.
Food - The wedding breakfast was top notch. Breakfast the next day had lots of options and was buffet style. It was OK
Lovely that we got to experience this hotel and celebrate our friends wedding but unlikely to return.
Disappointed that hotel guests had to pay for parking as an additional cost.
Also the breakfast server was a stickler for ensuring breakfast tokens were given in even though the wedding party were in a private room with names/rooms on their list, a little overkill. Could understand for the main breakfast area but not in this instance.

We would love to return
Pros:

It was absolutely gorgeous. So picturesque and peaceful. We loved the hidden bathroom behind the wardrobe door! The staff were wonderful too. The lady who checked us in was so helpful and sorted us out with fans for our room as it was very hot overnight. She was a credit to the hotel.

Cons:

The mattress was very soft which made it difficult to sleep comfortably.

Pros:

Unique atmosphere.

Cons:

Hiccups in services, like no proper circulation of air in the room. In a heatwave this could be annoying.
Plants in the garden are suffering, because the irrigation is not resolved.

Beautiful stay
Pros:

For our 9th anniversary, we chose to come back to Coombe Abbey for the murder mystery event. We booked a grand feature room, The Giordino, which is a split level room overlooking the gardens. Before we got ready for the murder mystery, we decided to try the gondola ride with Anthony. I cannot explain how much this was worth it! He told us about the abbey and showed us some architecture "secrets" then, a man of many talents, he showed us how he had converted the space for gondola rides. The swans came to visit which was incredible and Anthony sang us our first dance song from our wedding whilst playing the piano! Honestly, it was more than we were expecting- we hadn't got on the boat yet! He took us round the water and took some great photos for us- really enhanced our entire experience at the abbey! The abbey is obviously incredibly old so installing AC is an absolute no, unfortunately this meant our room was far too hot so we needed to request moving rooms as sleeping in that one would have made us poorly! Staff were fantastic and super understanding so we were able to move to a feature room, 7,which was a much better temp! The murder mystery was good fun, well managed and an excellent meal to accompany it. A special mention to the performer who played Mrs Pritchard, she was incredible and really played well with guests. Overall a lovely experience. I think we will return soon to have a "date night" by Antony and stay in a feature room next time!
