Where do I even start. Looking at all these comments you should TRULY only consider my comment as this hotel is a scam for any couple or family trying to have a good time in Tulum and enjoy a real vacation. The place is a ghost town and the front desk has one person running the entire hotel. When I checked in there wasn't a single person to help me and nobody even took my luggages. For anyone looking at the amenities the rooftop was dirty and empty and the jacuzzi on it didn't have water and the pool was an ice bath (Definitely why nobody used it). When I entered my room there were cockroaches and huge spiders in the shower and on the walls. The upstairs of my room had a bed which didn't have blinds and forced me to wake up at 5am in the morning. I had issues with getting into the hotel as it is like a New York Subway and had turnstiles (little gates) that you had to get through which didn't open and forced me to be locked out of the hotel at night. There was a QR code you had to scan and if your phone died consider yourself screwed as you have no chance in getting into the hotel. It was the weirdest entrance of a hotel I seen and did not feel like a vacation but rather a prison feel. . And for anyone who wants a late night snack or a water bottle good luck as nobody is at the hotel.
We got here this afternoon, chaos
No water in the room
Safe doesn’t work
Room wasn’t ready till 5
Now no hot water
All beach vendors are entering the hotel area, zero security
Very unsafe place
Not sure how to explain this but there is no person at front desk , no one.. it’s only one lady from Resturant trying to help
I can not get a hold of anyone
The hotel is just okay and looks nothing like the pictures online. The biggest issue is the condition of the pools and deck flooring—there’s clearly a lot of deferred maintenance.
The lobby is nice, with a quaint boutique feel, but it wasn’t really open during our stay. September is their slow season, so the restaurant had very limited hours and most menu items were unavailable. The front desk operates on a similar schedule, open roughly from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need anything outside those hours, you have to contact them through WhatsApp, which is slow and inconvenient.
To be fair, the staff were very friendly and genuinely tried to be helpful, but the service overall was lacking. Our ocean-view room was spacious, close to the water, and had a great view. It did have a bit of an “earthy” feel—not quite our style—but it was still comfortable.
Overall, the hotel feels tired and in need of investment. If you can get a good deal, it might be worth considering, but at over $400 a night for an ocean-view room, we felt it was overpriced for what you actually get. Nice people who try hard, but the owners need to put some money into the property—or at least update the photos to reflect reality.
It was an amazing room, amazing service and an amazing place. I honestly had the best time here. Thank you to Samantha and all the staff, super nice and helpful.
Definitely recommend this hotel to all.
Griselda was amazing aswell and super funny.
Limited shopping and restaurants , limited food options for high prices compared to the food quantity.
Property is beautiful. Just like pics . I stayed before and love it there . The two pools are beautiful and o love the villa on the beach .
The hotel is in good condition overall. I have no complaints about the staff. Due to the season, the hotel has minimal services and is almost empty of personnel. There is no hotel lobby “bar” after 6:00 p.m. VIP credit can only be used for alcoholic drinks up to 6:00 p.m. and not at the beach. Olivia Bar was not in attendance. In general, very disappointing that the low season impacts those who stay at the hotel.
STOP and please sort to read all the bad reviews because they are all true to every detail. Dirty room curtains bathroom, door doesn’t lock, ridiculous restaurant, no free parking, not in the central hotel zone. WORST hotel and vacation in my life.
Super relaxing stay
Great service and facilities! The rooms are lovely! The coffee basket delivered to the room in the morning was so nice! Griselda always made sure we get back to a clean room!
Customer service was a 3. Staff was friendly, but you had to keep requesting refills or request help. They didn’t take the initiative.
Overall good experience. Griselda our maid was amazing. The front desk was very responsive to our requests, especially Hugo. The staff was great at helping with luggage and doors, especially Victor. Nice rooms, rustic, clean, jungle views. The food was overpriced. Not ADA accessible.
We stayed in an oceanfront villa for 5 nights. This is a hotel we enjoyed, but there are pros and cons. If they could address the cons, Hotelito Azul could be a real gem.
Pros
- We loved our room and the large bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the deck was spacious with a couch, two chairs and coffee table. There was also a raw edge table with two chairs plus two hanging chairs.
- The rooftop pool is long which makes swimming laps great and the water temperature was perfect. The view during the day and evening at sunset are amazing. There are not many beachfront pools with pools; those that do tend to be very small like a plunge pool
- Food and service at Agave was great. Jorge and Jonny were very attentive and friendly.
- Food at Olivia was good, especially some of the smoothies.
- Griselda did a great job cleaning our room. She is one of the most efficient maids we have ever had. Works hard and is quick. She is does lovely towel art and is very friendly.
- Because the rooftop bar had very limited hours, Jorge or Jonny delivered dinks with a smile when ordered via WhatsApp. They were great.
Cons
- First full day the rooftop pool was green and closed. It didn’t get any service until my husband complained. Samantha messaged him back that it was caused from guests wearing too much sunscreen. We have a pool at home at the cause was NOT sunscreen, the ph was off. Why would a hotel blame guests under any circumstance?
- The service at Olivia was slower when eating in the restaurant than ordering room service. The coffee is weak “americano” and they don’t serve the dark Mexican coffee that other hotels offer. Hot Chocolate was also made with water instead of milk. We have traveled to many areas of Mexico and had never experienced that before.
- The small oceanfront pool above Agave has seen better days. Not very clean and we never noticed the pool pump working. The skim coat in the pool is also chipping and peeling.
- Rooftop pool opened at 11am and music didn’t get turned on until late afternoon.
- Rooftop bar was poorly stocked with extremely limited hours which meant drinks had to come up from Agave which isn’t very efficient.
- Signage for the hotel was very difficult to see. Good thing my hubby did his homework on YouTube.
Overall, we had a very nice stay.
Amazing experience and incredible staff. A hidden gem! I really enjoyed my stay here as it was just the perfect break. The staff and food were excellent
10/10 customer service. Hidden rooftop pools!
Would stay again!
And an incredible gym!
A lovely hotel to stay in. A hidden gem!
2 amazing pools, amazing service and just a lovely beach.
Very helpful and always there whenever you needed anything.
The customer service is just what you need for a nice break in the sun.
Highly recommend this hotel!
Away from the noise and in walking distance to the party.
Great stay! 10/10
Samantha, Gaetano Hugo… thank you!
No check in. We arrived at 9pm and got shown through the staff entrance and told to checkin the following day. Room, very basic, no hair dryer, no kettle. Balcony did not lock. Breakfast great first day, mediocre from then on. Considering the price you’d think breakfast was included … no… you’re looking at £20pp for an average breakfast. Nobody at hotel due to awful seaweed in Tulum we suspect? However meant the hotel is running on Skelton staff. Nobody wants to help you… you enjoy a drink at the roof top and are told to sign three flights of stairs down… they won’t bring the bill to you. Everywhere looks tired, very disappointing
Restaurant staff were great hotel needs some simple maintenance and upkeep
We loved our stay! The room was just as described, AC worked well, and bed was nice. The location was easy and the staff did a great job of connecting us with ATV rentals and airport transportation vendors. We were impressed with the food and beverages. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not crowded. Perfect, relaxing trip!
Customer service was great, food was always solid. Location on the beach is great. Can walk anywhere you need to. The rooftop view is amazing. Extra shout out to Griselda in the cleaning crew, she did a great job and her attention to detail was amazing! Will definitely be back.
I had a wonderful stay at Hotelito Azul! The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything I needed, which made my experience even more special. I want to give a special shoutout to Griselda from housekeeping, she was absolutely amazing! So kind, attentive, and always made sure everything was spotless and comfortable during my stay. You can really tell she cares about her work and about the guests.
I’d definitely recommend Hotelito Azul to anyone looking for a relaxing and well-cared-for getaway. Thank you to everyone there for making my stay so lovely!
