Breakfast was lovely
My sister-in-law and I are elderly and we asked to be moved to the ground floor if possible as miles from the lift on 1st floor. I'm 82 and use a stick.
We had lovely rooms in the Courtyard? but unfortunately neither of us were able to use the shower as unable to step into the bath and therefore reach the shower or even the plug on the side. We coukd only wadh ourselves down on an extremely hot 3 days.
Breakfast very limited and basic
Rooms need re furnishment, very tatty and didn’t feel very clean
Location,
The air conditioning was not working throughout the whole hotel. Many people were complaining. The standard of appolgy was a free drink at the bar that the reception desk had a stack of vouchers for. This seems to be a long term issue. The hotel is a poorly insulated old building and the windows don't open. Ironically for the air conditioning. Making the rooms unbearably warm at night.
The breakfast was ok, they had a buffet set up. The buffet had some good options but for money spent expected a bigger range. The location is only selling point. The staff were nice and that’s great, they should get a nod for good service.
My experience and thoughts are my own, it’s your decision what you do with this information. Disclaimer: I have stayed in Bristol double tree by Hilton. I expected something to a similar standard in York, unfortunately they were worlds apart. Double tree in York was awful, not even a mark on the one in Bristol. The pictures of the hotel in York booking.com shows pictures of rooms looking lit up, bright, functional. This room 34 did not live up to the pictures, lighting was very poor. It had a toilet seat too small for the bowl, it was loose, light above mirror not working, radiator wiring cover not connected to wall, vanity mirror light not working, lights above the bed on both sides not working, the air conditioning did not work in the way air conditioning should, it was a wonder I got any sleep with how hot the room was. The shower was so small I could barely bend to clean my legs. The sink has a big crack in it. I didn’t get the advertised welcome cookie (Bristol Hilton gave me 2). I did get parking, it was tight, but I can only complain about the price on parking. I don’t like that it’s Hilton brand but was far from what I experienced before. It was not the worst room I’ve stayed in, but it was in the top 3 of the worst. I have been apologising to my wife for booking the room, because she was looking forward to it, based off what I’d told her from my Bristol experience. Didn’t bother to use the gym, because we could see windows were open, meaning there can’t be air conditioning in there. It would be too hot right now. To their credit I didn’t ask for a fan or any room change or anything like that. But it’s a Hilton… you should not have to, that’s supposed to be part of the expectation, the default is exceptional quality. York doubletree did not deliver. At £179 + £25 for parking. I feel like I was robbed not just of money, but of what should have been a wonderful experience. I am now thinking to take my wife to Bristol to show her what should have been a treat.
Very friendly staff at the front desk. Good sized room and great breakfast. Superb location about a 2 minute walk from the cathedral.
Not applicable.
Great location. Clean. Comfy beds. Good breakfast.
Air con wasn’t working during the heatwave. Hotel is starting to look a bit tatty in places. Not much parking.
Even 1 star is too many. Whilst the room is nice, getting to it is a nightmare. We are on a tour of 40 people and navigating the right way to go is terrible. Lifts are only big enough for one couple and luggage, so the wait is shocking. Once arriving on the “floor” you are on, you need to walk up and down stairs and long hallways until you reach your room - no concierge service!!! Sat down for dinner and was being served by a lovely young lady who checked on us several times. The food was good but then we seemed to have lost the waitress, who was serving a large group of people out in another courtyard area seemingly on her own. Sat here for over 45 minutes waiting for her to return, but she never did (not her fault, completely terrible management problem here). Thank heavens we are only here one night. My review to Tripadeal will be “book somewhere else”.
The bathroom was tired and the room too hot. The air conditioning was noisy so unable to leave it on during the night
Good location for walking into main attractions
Room very outdated. Cracks in toilet and bathroom tiles.
Furniture had seen better days!Television cabinet bent and leg on bed side table broken
Location was great that was the best feature, within a stones throw of rhe city walls & the Minster. It was sadly not value for money overall it was an expensive hotel. Almost £1000 for three nights for two rooms B&B.The hotel was shabby in places and looked very tired.Carpet in rooms could do with a steam clean. The rooms are very stuffy you can barely open the windows. We had to ask three times for a fan as the air conditioning unit was faulty. The staff were friendly, especially the restaurant staff who worked tirelessly to replenish the buffet breakfast. The hotel was clean and the bedding fresh.
The smoking area outside the reception unfortunately meant that the rooms nearby ended up with cigarette smoke wafting in - most unpleasant. Please for the comfort of non smoking guests change the smoking location for the smokers.
Parking was very limited. Only two blue badge bays yet four electric charge point bays.
Main building rooms are better than the very tired annexe rooms.
This hotel could do with a redec to brighten it up.
Good selection for breakfast regularly refilled.
Was put in a disabled access room the toilet made us laugh the hotel had put a nice surround with a padded back rest however when you lifted the lid of toilet it completely covered it making it redundant!
