Good but don't expect to park there.
Pros:

Location was superb, staff friendliness great, warm, good sized room.

Cons:

No guaranteed parking which we had entered as a specific when we did our hotel search. It was not explained until after booking that parking was limited and extra money.

Hotel furnishings and decor rather faded. Excellent location for exploring the sites. Will continue

Too many stairs for an older person with luggage.

Expected much better for the price
Pros:

Very close to the city centre, the bed was comfortable, tv worked, bathroom radiator worked and the bar was nice. Staff seemed nice and allowed us to check in slightly early.

Cons:

The room was so cold when we went in, the heating was broken so we had a portable heater which we turned off when we went out for dinner for safety meaning when we went up to go for a shower and bed it was so cold I chose not to shower, the wall under the mirror had someone else’s toothpaste left behind and the bath wooden panels were hanging off. The walls where so thin and the people in the room next door where celebrating a birthday, the stairs and corridors where so creaky that every step could be heard. To find the room was like a maze. I wish I had of taken pictures. The cold certainly put a dampener on my husband special birthday trip.

Cons:

The room was not as anticipated. Furthermore the heating was not working due to a supposed attempt at a refurbishment and a small plug in radiator was deemed sufficient but the room was uncomfortably cold . After complaining, a second radiator was provided . There was an unusual smell in the bar restaurant that was rather off putting and that area was also chilly., No room upgrade was offered as the hotel was fully booked . Then upon checkout we were physically unable to exit the car park due to the road being closed for a marathon that we had not been made aware of which was annoying because I had time constraints to adhere to .

Nice location for exploring York, but a bit tired.
Pros:

The position of the hotel was great for exploring, walking the walls and for catching the hop-on-hop-off bus.
We had breakfast included which was tasty with a good choice.
The quality of bedding was nice too.

Cons:

We were in a rather gloomy annexe room around the back which was an old converted stable block. It was nice not to be on long noisy corridors, but there was noise from the laundry carts, hotel bottle bank, cars and delivery vans coming in and out of the tiny car park outside the door. The soundproofing between the two floors not great either, especially from the bathroom above.
Some of the furnishings were a bit shabby to be honest and the shaver point didn't work in our bathroom (78). Reported on 1st day, they said maintenance would look at it but it wasn't fixed.
Nearly twice the price of our next hotel in Newcastle, but sadly not twice the quality.

Collapsing floorboards in room, toilet roll holder, towel rack and hook on bathroom door all slack and no way to tighten them. Lack of parking a real issue - and no way to arrange for week-long parking at the local car park, whuch meant having to get up and out before 8.00am to feed the machine.

Happy with our stay. It's the third time we've stayed and would be happy to stay again.
Pros:

Lovely big room. Ideal location for amenities. Good breakfast.

Cons:

The bar meals were okay but would have liked a bit more choice as I'm not a burger or pizza fan.
