The bedroom
The bathroom was outdated. Shower was not controlable, very poor breakfast.
Breakfast and dinner was excellent. Chef obviously very efficient and talented. Quality of the food excellent. Young serving staff were very pleasant and attentive. They made everyone feel welcome and are a great asset to your hotel.
Shower not very effective. transport noise and noisy gulls made it very difficult to get a good nights sleep. Watch the Step alert sign should be added to the outside of the bathroom door so that you are aware of the issue. Signage as now is fine when leaving the bathroom but you also need to alert before entering the bathroom
Comfy beds and clean bathroom!
The courtyard rooms lack of natural ventilation. There is a window which opens into an enclosed space made of glass structures. They should keep doors open more often to let fresh air in.
Always love staying at this hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms great. Food very good.
Situated in the heart of Porthmadog this is a wonderful old world hotel. Comfortable beds, and lovely staff. Would recommend, and will stay again when in the area.
Stayed two nights, room was very clean, appeared to have been recently modernised and bed was extremely comfortable.
Bathroom was spacious and shower worked perfectly well. Only critique was cracked sink, but unreasonable to expect renewal every time a careless guest stays!
The staff were extremely friendly and obliging and breakfast was varied, tasty and plentiful and service was excellent.
Our only criticism was the room had been recently renovated and that was obvious from the very strong scent of synthetic adhesive newness type smell. The receptionist was very apologetic and offered us an alternate room which we didn’t feel the need to accept as our stay was short.
Would stay again.
Very dated; needs a lot of TLC , the hallways are rather grim (damp with wallpaper peeling off). Only had a standard double room so it was a lot smaller than the superior room shown on their website. If you’re of the larger size; you will struggle to fit into the bathroom, the sink is tiny; hard to brush your teeth without banging your head on the shelf above, or to fill the teeny travel kettle that is supplied. The shower was awful! No pressure, if you try to turn the pressure up; it turns from freezing to scalding. And the TV is so small you cannot see the text on it. All rooms advertised with Mountain View’s (see pic attached). The hotel and bar is overpriced with no atmosphere. Although Staff are lovely and bed comfy, but Do yourself a favour and stay at The Premier Inn.
I stayed at The Royal Sportsman for one night at the end of May 2026. I found the hotel to be very clean, well cared for, and the staff extremely friendly and helpful, including the reception team, the bar staff, and the restaurant staff.
My room was a single-bedded room, which was well decorated, clean and comfortable. Had an issue with the toilet not flushing, but this was sorted out immediately and was not an issue after that.
Location is just about perfect, being on Porthmadog High Street, close to shops and the mainline railway station.
There is onsite parking, but it is limited, so secure your space early in your stay and there is EV charging available too.
All in all an excellent hotel, so good, I have reserved a room for next year when I was checking out!
Arrived late, checked out early. However, level of detail at reception was excellent, room was very clean and comfortable. Parking was under cover and safe. Breakfast choice was excellent and very enjoyable and brought to your table on very hot plates which is always a nice touch. Would definitely stay again.
Was stuck in traffic and called reception to ask about check in-Sharon was an absolute delight, explained me alternative check in process and gave all info through the phone, honestly I could not thank her enough how helpful she was. Lovely girl in the reception the next day talked us through the breakfast and check out procedure. Room was very tidy, great size and extremely clean. There was tv for little entertainment that done the job for my little one. Dining/breakfast area was very modest, breakfast menu had a nice variety and we had some nice toast, coffee and juice whilst waiting. Everything was smooth - they have parking at the back but ai just parked in front as theres two spaces and I knew I will be out by the time restrictions apply (parking from 8 am for one hour without return only). Would definitely come back again!
Excellent location to get to amazing beaches and places of interest. The hotel was a bit dated in places, BUT it was functional, clean, comfy beds, staff very friendly and helpful, plenty of hot water and the food in the restaurant both for breakfast and evening meal was very good. At the end of the day it is a 3 star hotel so we were very happy with our stay. The hotel parking was limited but plenty of free parking close by if no spaces available.
