Nice location for the city and road links
The hotel is pretty tired and a bit grubby
Quiet room and large. On the whole clean but dated.
Could smell somebody smoking from outside.
Having to pay extra for parking
I stayed in a serviced apartment across the road from the main hotel. Breakfast was included and other meals available. I could walk into the city centre though I also went by bus and taxi on the evenings I was visiting the theatre. There is a wonderful riverside walk easily accessible.
I was happy to pay the £15 / 24hour car parking charge knowing it was CCTV monitered and barrierd access.
There was very little I disliked. Some people might find the main road both difficult to cross and noisy.
Lovely, helpful staff
Starting to look uncared for.
Lovely breakfast with lots of choice, friendly helpful staff and beautiful outdoor seating.
The extractor in the bathroom wasn't strong enough and filled the room with steam.
Location, staff helpfulness. Comfortable beds
Nothing
Clean and helpful staff
Staff very helpful when needed and nice breakfast
An historic property on the outskirts of York with parking
Very comfy bed "Chinese Room"
Room was supposed to be deluxe but a little tired. We were not informed in advance that the restaurant was closed in the evenings. Luckilly the Plough a few minutes walk away did great food
Great location, beautiful outside spaces. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom large and clean.( I stayed in standard double.)
For price of breakfast I would've expected fresh fruit rather than tinned. Signage outside premises misleading as there was no food available on premises (not even a sandwich).
The cleanliness of the room was impressive. We enjoyed the coffee and tea service.
No real complaints, however the area behind the bathroom sink could be better sealed so water does not go into the trim.
Like the staff and they are very accommodating with room confirmation and disabled parking
Stopped serving an evening meal we found this quite disappointing as the plough opposite was also fully booked not providing prior notice of the change meant we had a cold meal deal instead of a hot dinner
Room only
Include parking
Location, breakfast and general comfort
Nothing
Lovely building in a quiet setting despite by a main road. Friendly staff, nicely decorated interior and exterior.
Just to advise, the restaurant is no longer open for dining facilities (something we always booked on previous visits), although the hotel does still cater for breakfast.
Parking at £15 is definitely too much per night. Especially since no one mentioned it before! A very unpleasant surprise!!!
Room was clean and tidy, breakfast was a good selection of continental/Full English etc. The hotel itself is delightful with bags of character and plenty of places to sit/relax both indoors and out. Staff were friendly and professional. In my particular experience they had been very helpful in ensuring I had help with lifting a Bike Box up to my room and had also arranged a special breakfast to be made for me as I was participating in a cycling event very early in the morning.
Situated a short drive from the city centre in a lovely area of York, this hotel is highly recommended.
As it's an old building the soundproofing wasn't the best [heard next door snoring] however other parts of the hotel could well be different. Parking is charged at £15/day however there is [limited] parking on the main road outside (or a short walk away) so you may be lucky in getting a spot depending on the time of day. There's no restaurant [closed recently] although you can order food in for which they'll supply cutlery etc or at the local pub.
value for money hotel which was very nice.
