The breakfast was hot, and tasty..the room was as I expected..clean and comfy..was there for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay as always.
Nothing really..maybe if I was being picky, the upstairs could do with a fresh lick of paint, but that's bring really picky..beautiful hotel...have stayed there many many times, and every stay has been excellent.
Didn’t have breakfast
Price is ridiculous. More than London prices.
Dust on wardrobe
Faulty showers
Noisy
I paid an upgrade , for 2 nights , Frankie Howard room which turned out to smell of damp , had a dirty throw with stains on it ,,a quilt that didn’t fit over the sides of lbed and a bottom sheet that hardly fitted , I work for a multi million company that supplies all size bedding so am aware you can purchase this , we had tye throw replaced and stayed in that room that night but the smell was bad in the morning, we went down for breakfast, the waiter was polite and professional and the breakfast was lovely , we were going into York so I complained on the way out the receptionist was lovely and again professional , when we got back we had an option we took the lroom 2 doors down as we didn’t want to lug our cases , the room had a four poster , needs some Tlc , the voiles were ripped , just find it all disappointing as it’s a beautiful building with amazing staff … apparently I’m not having any compensation as the second room was an upgrade????

Very homely, welcoming, traditional
The bathroom is in need of a refurb & windows are not openable
Room was old fashioned but comfortable, breakfast was excellent but the reason I would not stay again was simply due to wifi and phone coverage was a dead loss.
Niente, tutto rovinato da quanto accaduto la mattina della partenza
We travel frequently by motorcycle and have stayed in many hotels, but we have never experienced anything like this. The hotel itself was average, nothing remarkable. However, what happened on the morning of our departure completely ruined our stay. We found our motorcycle completely covered in bird droppings. It was the only vehicle in the parking lot in that condition, to the point where it was impossible to sit on it and leave without cleaning it. We politely asked at reception if we could simply fill our bottle with tap water from the restroom, but our request was refused. Instead, we were told to buy water at the hotel bar, paying almost 5 pounds for one litre, just so we could make the motorcycle usable again. We were not asking for a special service, only for a small act of courtesy that would have cost the hotel nothing. What disappointed us was not the bird droppings, but the total lack of willingness to help and the unfriendly attitude of the staff. For this reason, we cannot recommend this hotel.
Location, character of the place and the gardens
Restaurant/evening meals unavailable at time of our stay
No fridge in the room
narrow staircases and narrow passages and no lifts for suitcases
Good location, quiet area but only 10 mins by bus into York city centre. Friendly staff who accommodated my request for a quiet room.
A bit tired, could do with a refurb. Due to age of building easy to hear use of bathrooms in other rooms.
The staff
No window in bedroom only sky light. We had to walk through the bar and up 20 steps to bedroom. I’m on crutches so this was very difficult.
Car parking charge was £15 per day on top of booking cost. Breakfast was £20 per person so book whilst booking on here.
