I would leave zero stars if I could. What should have been a simple, two-minute routine task of adding guest names to a fully paid reservation turned into an absolute nightmare on the day of check-in.
Normally, this is an easy phone call. Instead, I wasted over 30 minutes trying to get a hold of anyone on-site. I personally called four separate times, and even two Choice/Suites corporate representatives tried calling through to help me get this sorted, but no one would answer the phone.
I have resorted to email and possibly needing to show up along with our guests now. Incredibly unprofessional! I book hotels constantly for guests and have never encountered this level of incompetence and friction. Look elsewhere if you actually want a reliable hotel that answers the phone.
Over priced. Older hotel with lots of broken amenities. Booked a double queen and was given a king room and manager wouldn’t talk to us or attempt to make it right. Avoid this hotel at all cost.
This place was nothing but a huge disappointment and one that has now been dangerous to my family’s health. All my daughter wanted to do for her birthday was stay somewhere with a few friends where they could swim and have fun all night. She wanted a hotel. We had been excited to try this hotel for years because it was close and seemed to look like it had a decent pool where kids or families could have a staycation.
Finally got checked in and got everything and everyone up to the room. Took awhile to get everyone ready to go down to the pool so we sent the 3 teen girls down to enjoy the time they had left. Not 5 minutes later they were back up knocking on the door to come in. I assumed it was bc they needed a key card to get into the pool. Silly me. They all announced that someone told them the pool was closed because of something to do with the PH being off balanced and they’re kicking everyone out. My mouth dropped to the floor. My poor daughter. I asked if they had been told how long it might take for the levels to be “balanced” and they said they didn’t know. I walked into the rest of the room where my wife was and had to give her the bad news. She immediately felt a wave of anger and anxiety. So I said I would go down and ask for more details. I was getting information from teenage girls, after all. So I went down with all three girls tagging along with me. We go down the stairs because when we had used the elevator before it shook and made sounds that made me feel like it could drop at any second.
I open the door to the pool and am IMMEDIATELY assaulted by a heavy wall of chemical vapors. I can feel my eyes already begin to burn. I assume this just means the pool must be clean. I find a younger woman with a frantic look on her face. I asked her if I could ask her a question. I said I understand the pool has to close for a bit because of something with the PH? She agreed and said that the PH is extremely high and it is basically not safe for people to be in the water. So I said okay, do you know how long it is going to take, about, for it to be fixed so we know when to come back? She said, yeah it’s most likely not going to be opening up again tonight. She went on to explain that they have know ln about this issue for some time and that a mechanic keeps saying he’s on his way but he hasn’t showed up yet. I was feeling optimistic so I said, well after the mechanic comes, would he be able to fix it and then would there be a chance the pool could open up for just a little while before it’s supposed to close? I told her it was my daughter’s birthday and that was the only reason we came here. As I said that last part she said it right in tune with me. She said a lot of people are very angry currently because of the situation as well because their groups, too, came here specifically for the pool and water slide. So before I walked away I asked her what the deal was with the PH anyway… she explained in a very great way (if I were someone who had any idea about PH levels in pools) what was going on but I just listened and nodded and thanked her for her time. She had just told us that there’s “basically this range of colors when you test a pools PH levels.” I remember her saying something about red, I don’t remember if it was good or bad but then she said that this pool had showed up BRIGHT PURPLE. She also mentioned the possibility of the hotel refunding our rooms but she said she had no clue how that worked because she was the pool attendant. I said okay and that I would go talk to the front desk then. She got a worried look on her face and told me about how there were a lot of “very very angry women” trying to talk to him now. She also said he was the only one there for the day and isn’t sure what to do either and she asked me to “be kind” to him. I told her honestly that was why I came down instead of my wife…
So then I went back up to the room with the new information and to prepare for impact on how unhinged my wife might get at the front desk staff of 1 when her mama bear comes out. She felt like she let her daughter down. How DARE this establishment do this. And apparently they knew it was an issue and had been working on it for awhile!? I tell my wife everything. (It was at this moment I remembered I forgot my blood pressure meds at home. 🫀💥) So my wife goes down to the front desk. Before she walks out, she tells us to pack everything up because we would find another hotel that has a pool that has a room. And my job was to start looking for a new place. My daughter is visibly upset but not throwing a fit or being ungrateful for anything. I call the first one I found and finally get to an actual human and my wife is calling me. Front desk attendant gives a very different timeline and says actually it will be more like 1-2 hours and the water will be at the perfect levels. And that they would even keep the pool open later. We still needed to get dinner so we thought that’s perfect, we will go eat and then come back to swim! We got down to the lobby. The same lone soul at the front desk says the time has changed yet again for when the pool will be ready. Actually, it will be all good to go in about 10 minutes. So everyone goes back up to change yet again.
We finally make it down and get in. The water isn’t freezing except in the splash pad part but I didn’t mind and neither did my autistic 3 year old son. All he wanted to do was try to “swim” on his own which really just meant flailing his arms and legs while I try to hold his wriggling slippery body above water. (We initially weren’t sure if he would be swimming so we didn’t bring a life jacket or floaties but I was holding him and keeping him safe. Or so I thought.) Because he was basically just splashing water into my face, I had to take breaks and sit him on the edge of the pool while I wiped my face off but specifically my eyes. I could barely open them when they had the water on them. They burned too bad. So we would play a bit and then I would have to take a break. We ordered food and decided to eat it in the room. My daughter’s friends started to not feel too great and said they didn’t want to go back and swim. I told my daughter I still would.
Then we found out that they actually really had to close the pool. There were apparently some children getting sick due to the imbalance of PH. So I decided to look up what that helpful “pool lady” had told me.
That “bright purple” color she was referring to? It looked like a pretty color on the chart. Associated with #13. So then I looked up what that meant. And man did I lose my mind. I had to rinse out our suits. My eyes still burn. The girls stomachs and my stomach hurt. And then our son started complaining about his stomach. The amount of water he probably ingested while trying to swim is making me stay up and watch to make sure everyone’s breathing. Management was supposed to be there at 8AM BUT NO ONE CAME!!! You put children in that much danger?! Prepare to see some very unhappy mama and papa bears. I am still too recently traumatized from our special needs son almost 20 minute seizure. Thank God I didn’t get him into the pool. Who knows what that could have done!!
This place is a disappointment, we came here specifically for the water park for the kids, and we were told the waterslide was shut down for night, even though it was only 7 pm. So the waterslide was closed, the hot tub was out of order. If you plan to come here for the indoor water park, be prepared to be disappointed.
In the interest of transparency, I want to disclose that I used ChatGPT to help organize my notes and communications into a structured, factual review to ensure accuracy and clarity.
We arranged a group stay at Sleep Inn & Suites Indoor Waterpark in Liberty, MO for a high school track team traveling from out of state (50+ students and coaches). The hotel was recommended for the event, reasonably priced, and conveniently located.
Our reservation was made and prepaid in February and reconfirmed the day before arrival, including documentation and payment details.
However, while en route (an 8-hour drive), we contacted the hotel to confirm check-in procedures and were told there was an issue. We were then informed that the reservation had been canceled weeks earlier—despite clear evidence of recent communication.
This left our group without confirmed lodging. We had to stop and call multiple hotels (many were full) and nearly had to cancel the trip entirely, putting significant financial resources and student participation at risk.
Attempts to resolve the issue were unsuccessful:
On-site management did not take ownership
The manager on duty (identified as Judy) was dismissive and spoke over me during our conversation
Corporate support redirected us back to the property without assistance
Additionally, several parents who stayed at the hotel reported concerns about the indoor waterpark conditions. One parent noted that the water was noticeably murky, with very limited visibility. While I did not personally use the pool, this feedback was concerning.
We were ultimately able to secure last-minute accommodations at another hotel whose staff handled the situation professionally, underscoring how this situation should have been managed.
Recommendation: I would strongly caution against relying on this property for any group booking.
Bed was comfortable and room was clean , but issues was the pool , a real bad chlorine smell and kids were coughing and one of the kids throwed up from the pool water only after 30 mins of swimming.
Room was clean
Our 9 year old grandson loved the water park
It is run down
Staff
Near amenities
Staff was rude. Pool closed and they didn’t run chemicals until the morning so opened late and closed at check out. If all my stuff is out of the room why can’t I swim still especially when you opened late because of poor leadership and cleaning. Double standards for guests depending on the time of day. Adults had alcohol in the hot tub. Someone puked and the pool was closed. Parents and Kids misusing slide. Just all in all infuriating stay. Went out of my way to stay there. Never again
The staff is always nice.
A child's coat was in the bottom of the closet. Looked like it had been there for awhile. So wondering how long its been since it was cleaned.
Stay here all the time. But they changed our rooms upon request at check in and the manager barged in our first morning at 8am while we were still asleep and the next morning the cleaning ladies tried coming in early and waking us up. Usually, it’s all fine. But for some reason, this trip was annoying me.
The staff was incredibly accommodating and kind. I can't say enough wonderful things about how respectful, helpful, and pleasant they all were.
I water slide wasn't open, but that was not in the control of the staff or hotel. It was a weather related issue.
