The hotel was absolutely fine - staff, rooms, food, grounds etc.
The hotel doesn't cater to most foreign (Western and other) guests - two closed bars and no discernible poolside service. You can get a beer, but it's not on the menu, you have to go out of your way and ask if they have it. As noted above, the hotel is indeed fine, but next time in Surabaya I'll stay in a hotel where I'm treated like an adult.
first stay at this hotel... breakfast excellent.. staff also... location... view from room and facilities excellent... pool excellent and hot spa/jacuzzi a surprise bonus. value for money... room was very good
staff understanding of western guest could be improved. room service prices for food were exorbitant. I only used this service one time. and menu was limited. some facilities were closed, eg. bar and one restaurant.
In October 2025, I booked six rooms at Hotel Bumi Surabaya for a stay from December 23 to 26, 2025. The hotel confirmed that all rooms would be located on the same floor, including four connecting rooms. The official check-in time was 3:00 PM.
Upon our arrival exactly at 3:00 PM, only three rooms were ready. We were repeatedly assured that the remaining rooms would be available shortly, but even after waiting for about 30 minutes, there was no progress. This caused serious inconvenience, as we were traveling with two elderly family members who were unwell and young children who were exhausted after a long journey.
The hotel explained that one room had a wet bed due to a water spill and needed replacement, while the other rooms were simply not ready without a clear explanation. Eventually, the remaining three rooms were only available around 4:30 PM. Unfortunately, the wet bed was never replaced and was still damp, which was noticed by my elderly mother who slept in that room.
This experience was extremely disappointing, especially for a hotel of Hotel Bumi Surabaya’s reputation. I live in the Netherlands, and every time my husband and I visit Indonesia, we regularly stay at Sheraton, JW Marriott, and Hotel Bumi Surabaya. This was, however, the worst service experience we have had at this hotel.
Additionally, the reception staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. There were errors in guest name assignments and in the allocation of twin-bed and double-bed rooms. When I raised this concern, the receptionist responded rudely, stating that we could simply switch rooms ourselves. No compensation was offered for the inconvenience.

The property is very nice one in the city of Surabaya. I will book again after hariraya festival
I don’t like the pool area. It’s not like a hotel pool . Need a pool bar to buy something during this sing pool
Huge hotel with a nice garden where you can have your breakfast and dinner. Large rooms.
The hotel is a little dates but still in good condition.

Personal muy atento y simpático. Habitaciones espaciosas y con muy buenas vistas. Al lado hay un gran centro comercial con variedad de restaurantes. Desayuno variado y muy rico. Recomendable.
