We stayed 2 nights at Chachagua Rainforest Hotel & Hot Springs and it was easily one of the highlights of our time in Costa Rica. The property feels like a true rainforest retreat, lush, peaceful, and beautifully kept, with incredible wildlife sounds in the mornings and evenings. The hot springs were a dream after busy days exploring, they are relaxing, quiet, and feel much more natural and intimate than the big commercial resorts.
Our room was comfortable and spotless, with thoughtful details that made it feel special, and the staff were genuinely warm, helpful, and attentive throughout the stay. Breakfast was excellent and a great start to early adventure days. If you want somewhere that feels secluded and nature first, but still close enough to La Fortuna for tours and activities, this is a perfect base. We were there partly celebrating my birthday and the staff had left some baked goodies and decorations for us to enjoy as a surprise when I got to the room !
Tip, plan a little time to just enjoy the grounds and hot springs, it is worth slowing down here.
Just that we were taking day tours from San Jose and to get to the hotel you need to hire a transport specifically but the hotel was able to arrange that easily.
Ist ein Top Hotel mitten im Regenwald. Sehr schöne große Zimmer. Mit super Thermalbecken eingebettet in den Regenwald.
Frühstück kein Buffet und sehr limitiertes Angebot a la card. Lage sehr abseits. Preise sehr hoch.
Beauty, isolation, privacy, wildlife, offerings for tourist activities.
Two main issues…one the “hot springs”, which are just a collection of hot tubs, were not hot. Not remotely. So what should have been a hot soak in a beautiful surrounding did not happen as the water was lukewarm, even cold. Staff should be monitoring the temperature to ensure it is a hot 104 degrees or whatever is appropriate.
Second, since this is a rain forest, i get that things get wait and stay wet. But there were hardly any places to hang wet towels, wet clothes, etc. Would be nice to have a few well places hooks to dry things.
Hot springs, coffee tour, all staff
The free breakfast options were really good. The staff was incredibly warm & friendly. The gardens/property are beautiful and the amenities between the thermal pools, walking trails and river swim make for a lovely day. We saw lots of wildlife here too which my kids were pleased about. The rooms are quiet and private. This was our favorite of all 4 hotels across our stay.
Hotel naprawde godny polecenia. Polozony w samych lasach.
The hotel, rooms, and general setting are stunning.
There is some improvement work ongoing. It's looking fantastic - the new pools/lobby areas will be stunning.
River slide, hot springs! The location was amazing, the trails on the grounds. Loved the ceba tree!
Room was spacious and very comfortable.
I had some laundry done and it came back a bit damp which was annoying as coat a lot of money.
Beautiful property with a lot to offer. Enjoyed the trails by the river and the amazing wildlife guide Rueben who spent hours looking for an injured/lost baby sloth. I was impressed with his love and respect for nature.
I love the hotel, but did not realize how far it is from town. Also disappointed that it was not hot springs, but spring water being heated, but it was not not working, so the pools were cold.

Lush and well maintained
The setting was amazing, set within the rainforest.
The most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever had to sleep in. It felt unfinished. The service was half hearted. The breakfast wasn’t nice and over complicated so not offering a buffet or just a simple breakfast it had to be an over fancy cooked meal which is great if done well but it wasn’t.
Really nice resort. Comfortable. Friendly staff, with good tour arranged.
One major complaint...it advertises prominently the "hot springs" but there are no natural hot springs. There are pools with heated water. When we tried one night, after rain (it's in a rain forest) the pools were barely warm, and not anywhere near what a real hot springs would be. A different day, with no rain, they were warmer but still not like a real thermal hot springs. False advertising.
