The room was absolutely dreadful. The window pane in the bedroom was broken. The bathroom was absolutely filthy with an unknown sticky substance on the floor in front of the toilet. Shower covered with mold, mildew and and bacteria covered. Pullout mattress was stained and disgusting and my child (with whom I was traveling) just slept in the bed with me instead. Staff was pleasant enough, but as I was leaving and trying to get feedback, the front desk station was totally abandoned. Going wallpaper. Bathroom fan was beyond disgusting. I was a regular guest. Hotel currently being renovated but it is not being managed adequately. My stay at renovated room was disappointing. Rugs dirty, new shower door frames were defective, and my thermostat and AC unit was not connected. They should not be allowing guests to occupy rooms not completed. Management has declined significantly in recent years and people working there are poorly trained and not adequately supervised. I have moved on to 4 Points down the road. Beware!
Apologies in advance for the lengthy review.
Our family stayed here as part of a group youth hockey tournament booking. I rarely write reviews, even after less-than-great experiences, but what occurred during our stay—particularly involving hotel management—was so unprofessional and unjust that I feel compelled to speak up.
To start with the basics: the lobby is pleasant, and Johnny at the front desk was kind and professional. Unfortunately, that was the extent of the positive experience. Only one elevator was working, the pool was closed, and our room was not properly maintained or stocked (missing towels, mold in the shower, stained bedding, and a malfunctioning toilet).
The most troubling issue, however, was how our group—primarily families with young children—was treated by the bistro manager. Parents and children were spending time in the public lounge area when the police were called for a noise complaint. At no point was the situation disruptive or unsafe, and it certainly did not warrant police involvement—especially with young children present. No alternative space had been provided for our team to gather. They were unwelcoming and clearly unprepared or unwilling to host youth teams. If this is the case, the hotel may want to reconsider contracting with youth teams or accepting group reservations in the future.
After being told the lounge was closed, our group complied and returned to our rooms, leaving the area clean and undamaged. Later, other guests were observed using the same lounge without issue. When families requested clarification regarding rules appearing to apply to some guests but not others, they were informed that the police would be contacted and that they would be required to leave the property.
The police arrival for the second time escalated the situation unnecessarily.
What was meant to be an exciting first hockey tournament weekend became frightening for our children, some of whom are still upset by the experience. The lack of empathy, the threatening behavior, and dismissive attitude displayed by management were shocking.
Marriott and High Hotels Ltd should seriously review this incident and the conduct of the bistro manager. I have worked in guest services and other customer-facing industries for many years and cannot imagine treating guests—especially families with young children—the way the families on our team were treated. I am still trying to understand the situation and why our group appeared to be treated differently from the start of our stay.
Pool didn’t work, towel rack in the bathroom was off the wall, and the staff was rude. I’m a loyal Marriott customer and I always search out Marriott hotels but if I’m ever in York again I will avoid this property
Here for a youth hockey tournament with approximately 40 rooms booked. Despite being a major group booking, the front desk was extremely unaccommodating and confrontational about the presence of children. The situation escalated to the point where they called the police on our group because the kids were playing in the lobby. Hotels that host sports tournaments should expect families and kids - this property clearly isn’t equipped or willing to handle youth sports groups professionally.
Went to check out and nobody was at the front desk. Called the phone 3 times to get someone at the front t desk and nobody answered or came. Room was all beat up, door looked like it was broke with a digging iron and very dirty. Heat also didn’t work in my room. Terrible experience
Property was clean. The bistro, their chef was amazing . Very friendly and breakfast she made for us was great!
Staff was decent. When we checked in , it was pretty late so what can really go wrong. We drove 21/2 hours to stay there. Had something to attend near by. Before leaving the area realized my son had left his pillow in the room. I called the hotel twice, and still left without his pillow, after being told they would check with housekeeping.theres no way it was thrown out. This was BEFORE our check out time!
All things advertised were not true, the pool was not available, restaurant was closed and was hardly open. The first room we were given the trash cans were all full of trash and stuff smeared on the wall (looked like blood) and the bed was broken. Staff constantly on phones and FaceTime and not attentive to anything surrounding them. It was a rough go for a place with the price.
The location was good. The room was nice.
The staff was rude. The elevators did not work a few of my friends and family booked this hotel to attend a birthday party nearby. We were stuck in the elevator, and then complained that the elevator didn’t work and we were told by the staff that they already knew. I actually checked out early because of this problem.
The place is falling apart. Elevelators did not work, at all. The only reasons why I booked this specific hotel over others in the area was the indoor pool and the Jacuzzi, which were also closed "for repairs". The room was gross and stained all over. The bed and the chair were both very uncomfortable. The bathroom had random hairs all over on the floor and shower. TV was very small and so was the fridge. The fridge was missing the internal pieces rending it almost useless. The security latch was broken like someone attempted to previously break into the room.
The elevation, the pool and the jacuzzi should have been updated to not functioning. The staff, who were very nice, stated that they know about the issues and they believe that it's in the process of having someone fix it but they are unsure about timelines. These amenities, that I paid extra to use, had known issues and were not disclosed at any point of the purchase. It's not like it happened that day, these have not worked for some time now. This needs to be disclosed to the purchaser before payment for the room is processed.
Long story short, stay somewhere else. There are way too many choices in the area to put up with staying in a gross hotel like this one.
Horrible! This hotel is rated high on Tripadvisor, but look the last 10 reviews before mine and you will see 9 out of 10 are bad. What does that say? Bad manager!
DON’T STAY HERE! I’m in hotels 100+ nights/year with most of my stays at Marriott hotels. This is one of the worst managed hotel properties I’ve ever been at. I had a room on 2nd floor right above the lobby with non-working Wi-Fi. There was a good signal on the meeting room network and when I asked if I could have a password, the front desk refused and told me their IT department would call in a few minutes. The call never came after being there 2 hours.
I went to use the pool and hot tub and found there were no towels. Went to the front desk, where the day-shift Manager was, and she told me “they” would bring down towels immediately. After 30 minutes of waiting I gave up and went to use the hot tub. Hot tub was full of cold water so I went back to front desk. Told again towels were on the way (even thought the laundry room was across from the pool and right next door to the office) and was also told their Maintenance man was in the building and would look at the hot tub heater. Maintenance man showed up 20 minutes later and told me he wasn’t actually a maintenance man, just a house man, and that there was no Maintenance man onsite. He also told me there was nothing he could do because the hot tub heater had been down all week and everyone knew about it. Finally, I went back to the Manager to let her know how disappointed I was about the level of service at the hotel, and her only response was that I shouldn’t try to tell her how to do her job.
I went back to my room, packed up, and checked out. There are many better hotels in York PA (look on the other side of Route 30). The quality of Marriott hotels has gone way down lately, and I don’t think it’s just a local issue, but It’s never gotten to a point to where I had to pack up and check out the same day I arrived, until now.
Hotel did not honor their commitment of not charging a fee for cancellation due to inclement weather and my bonvoy status.
Called hotel about 15 times over the course of a month and manager did not have the decency to take my call or call me back. It was clear she refused my calls.
The location
The bed was horrible.. very uncomfortable. Pillows flat
Staff was phenomenal, especially Stephen!
He was the most welcoming person I've ever encountered dealing with any hotels/places!
The room was okay, definitely could use an upgrade, but overall, comfortable
A few things.
The shower turn nozzle was on backwards so I thought it barely got warm at first, also ran out of conditioner.
The mini fridge wasn't cold at all.
The mattress topper was also the wrong size and kept coming off.
The computer desk area was super dusty as well.
The main reason I personally chose the hotel was the hot tub, but it was ice cold, the pool was warmer.
The elevators stopped working and the fire alarm was going off at 5am.
Terrible experience! We checked in and were given a handicapped room, which we didn’t like. We asked for a regular room and was told it would be an upgraded price. I questioned the cost increase and was told that there was a room available. We got the room and there was a bug in the bathtub and hair. The room was disgusting and wasn’t clean. We packed our stuff up and told them we weren’t staying there and not to charge us.
WiFi did not work which made it impossible to stay during a business trip
Disappointing.
On the evening I arrived, I went to the bistro to order dinner, only to be told that the item I requested was not available — despite it being listed on the menu. The next morning, I returned to order breakfast and experienced the same issue: my first choice, also listed on the menu, was unavailable. I settled for a banana from the ones there, all of which looked like they had only a few hours of life left and a bagel. Unfortunately, neither were edible. The banana was spoiled, and the bagel was so saturated with butter that it was the consistency of a wet sponge. It would have been better if the butter had been served on the side, which in my experience it usually is. Not everyone eats butter on their bagel and certainly not that much.
On the morning of checkout, I informed the front desk attendant about a serious issue with the shower. I was disappointed to learn that the staff was aware of the problem but continued to assign the room to guests. The attendant mentioned that a previous guest incident had resulted in the shower door being shattered. I suggested a temporary fix, such as installing a shower curtain, and was told there had been one, but it had been torn down.
This left me wondering and I asked why a paying guest should have to deal with the consequences of another guest’s actions? I did not get a response. When I first arrived, I had noticed what I thought was a glass partition, only to realize later that it was the remaining half of the broken shower door. The holes in the wall where the other half had been and the towel I had to place on the floor to avoid stepping into a puddle of water ( only 2 towels were provided. There was no shower mat/towel provided) confirmed that this was not an oversight, but a neglected repair. I’ll also add that the furniture in the room was soiled and the mattress was uncomfortable. Honestly, things I probably would have overlooked since I was only there for one night but feel I should mention since it added to an overall disappointing experience. As a frequent business traveler I’ve stayed at many Marriotts and Marriott Courtyard properties. This one misses the mark.
Like many other reviewers, we stayed at this hotel for a weekend baseball tournament. I am loyal to Marriott and have status from stays not a credit card so have 30+ nights a year at the brand. I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the fields, relative cost on a pricey fall weekend, and reviews not quite as abysmal as the other nearby Marriott locations.
Pros:
-convenient location near shops and dining
-friendly front desk attendant
Cons:
-overall need for a refresh. Every wallpaper seam in our room was peeling back. Mattress was heavily worn and did not offer support.
-lack of cleanliness in public space. Carpets in lobby, hallways, elevators all seemed to not have been vacuumed for several days.
-lack of cleanliness in room. Heavy mold growth in shower grout and shower head. Stained carpets. Crumbs on desk from previous guest. Hole in my bath towel and wash cloths with makeup in them.
-broken equipment. Courtyards have “media pods” in the restaurant with TVs. None of them at this hotel work. All were displaying the blue screen of death or completely unplugged. Elevator had missing numbers on the buttons.
-one lone person working the breakfast area. Waited 15 minutes to order while she handled the person ahead of us in line, then waited another 20 minutes from ordering to get our food. This on a weekend with 5 weddings staying there as well as local college parents weekend. Surely they could have planned ahead better.
Overall the hotel and staff were wonderful. The only thing I noiced was a musty smell in my room when checking in. The bedding and bathrooms all looked clean, but there was a noticeable smell ( like wet towels).
