I have the Platinum-Ambassador status and thought I would get a slightly better experience. It was very disappointing. Let's start with the positives
- Beautiful lobby and restaurant
- Friendly staff
- Great location
Now a series of not so good experiences. We had 2 rooms for 5 of us. The kids room got upgraded to the nicer view. It was always too warm and humid even after we had the technician there.
The other room had more powerful AC which was blasting over the bed all might. The position of all outlets were behind the furniture making it hard to plug in. No speaker or way to cast. Only one bottle of water per day and they wanted to charge almost $7 for a second one (very stingy for this level of hotel). The large bathroom of one room had only a sheer drape covering large window overlooking the square so at night, a free show for people in the street (staff offered to come put something over it but seriously, couldn't they put normal draped.
Maybe I'm just used to level of quality and service that I get from Hyatt hotels but this was way below my expectations.
From beginning to end, this hotel was perfect. It truly is a stunning hotel with amazing rooms, great food, a joyous bar, extraordinary restaurant and above all, an amazing team dedicated to providing the best hospitality in Portugal.
My wife was celebrating her birthday, which is why we chose this hotel, and during our stay we enjoyed some lovely surprises that made it ultra special.
Reception team know how to bring Joy to your day. Shout out to an efficient team that included: Beatrice, Ines and Diogo.
This hotel has a top tier concierge team whose expertise and indepth local knowledge we relied on to make several reservations, which turned out perfectly. We are immensely grateful to Tiago and João, who provided much-needed advice that made our five-day break go smoothly. They really go out of their way to ensure you receive the best hospitality! Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Breakfast was wonderful. A glass of fizz was the perfect way to start the indulgence. Ricardo, Sara and the rest of this extraordinary team make it all run like clockwork. Despite a busy breakfast service, we always received full attention.
I can’t single out a single negative about this hotel. Initially, I thought of it as a hotel with a good location, but that would be underselling it. The people who work here are what make it truly special. I couldn’t imagine a trip to Porto without staying here.
A wonderful hotel in a great location. Very comfortable clean, nice size rooms and bathrooms. The staff is amazing, friendly and professional.
The concierge team will make sure you have a
Amazing experience in Porto.
Looking forward to hopefully returning in a not too distant future.
Top class hotel in perfect location for sightseeing and restaurants. Staff very friendly
Would definitely stay here again
Amazing staff. Attention to detail is second to none. Amazing hotel, amazing location.
We stayed in July for few nights at this property during our trip to Portugal. The location is very good and in walking distance to most of Porto’s highlights. It’s a historical Palace, very clean and with good service. The A/C was working very well, the room was large as well as the bathroom. The only downside was the noise coming from the street almost all night.
Overall we had a pleasant stay and recommend this property.

We had a fantastic stay at the InterContinental Porto. Our first room was on the 2nd floor and was lovely, but we noticed construction noise coming from the square right across the street, so we asked the front desk if there were any alternative rooms available. Tiago was incredibly accommodating and offered us a choice of rooms on the 4th floor — the new room was beautiful and much quieter.
Service throughout the hotel was excellent, and we genuinely felt like special guests during our entire stay. The location is fantastic, too — we were able to walk to everywhere we wanted to go in Porto.
Just two small notes for improvement: the pillows are quite soft and flatten out almost immediately, and even with the AC set as low as it would go, our room ran a bit warmer than we'd have liked.
Overall, a great hotel with a team that clearly goes above and beyond. We'd happily stay again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Porto.
Second time at this hotel, the staff have an amazing attention o detail and together with the central location of the hotel make this one of my favourite InterContinental hotels. Highly recommended
We thought the staff was great. The food was Devine and the location was perfect. We will definitely plan on staying there and recommending it to others.
This is the perfect hotel. The location is great to walk everywhere. The staff are amazing, the rooms are truly some of the nicest, and the food was all so good. Would always stay here when in Porto.
Good location, everything was near but very noise because of construction was going on in front of hotel. Rooms were clean.
Having a breakfast in a very beautiful place but the food was not so good. But still you can order some warm dish from the kitchen. Service was good but I did not like to talk with the people at the front desk. Did not feel comfortable when I talked with them.
Torn on how to rate the hotel bc everything was decent until checkout just now. Maria checked us in and was so kind to explain all of our benefits in detail and gave our daughter some coloring pencils while she waited. We used the chase edit credit here and she explained we would get 90 euro for the first two days and 90 euro credit again the next (we added two nights moving from the Hilton to here instead). I asked if she was sure, given they don’t have to honor the benefit for back to back stays but it is the hotel discretion to which she said yes. I thought thought that was really kind of them so went along with the information given at check-in. Upon checkout, one of the credits was not on the folio which I raised. Maria seemed confused why the credit wasn’t there so brought in a colleague. The colleague stated they only apply that once and I noted what we were told at check in. She argued a while then said she would get the manager. The manager then came and said I don’t want to argue who said what and she would apply the credit. Then when on to say this is not how they do this and how the program works. I said I was aware and knew it was hotel discretion so went with what I was told not once but twice at check in. I can repeat everything in detail as to what was said to me and if they have cameras, they can hear her saying all of this. Even my 5 year old remembered her saying it. She repeated several times not wanting to hash it out on who said it what but then repeating over and over that it’s not how they do it. I left wasting 30 mins to check out and almost missing our train feeling as if they were doing me a favor and being called a liar. When in reality, I remember very clearly who checked us in and what we were told and all remember her saying. We quite literally wouldn’t have gone out of our way to use the credit twice bc the food on property is not good at all but did bc we were told we had two credits. This clearly is a case of the worker not wanting to tell the truth that she misunderstood how they run the credits from the program and not wanting to get in trouble from her rude colleague and manager. Obviously their training needs work and a mistake was made in telling me “you will get 90 euro right now and in two days, another 90 euro credit” but the hostility at the end was uncalled for and they really should have simply said sorry for the mistake, we are handling it. We won’t be coming back to this hotel and I cannot recommend it for this reason.
Beautiful hotel ideally situated so you can walk pretty much everywhere. Hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious for European standards and well appointed. I appreciated the courtyard rooms away from the busy street and construction. The hotel breakfast was excellent, especially the Portuguese pastries. The staff is warm and friendly. Staying here was the ideal start to our holiday!
My husband and I chose InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas for the celebration of our Golden Wedding Anniversary, and we can now say with complete confidence that we made the right choice.
From the moment we arrived until the day of our departure, we felt genuinely welcomed. Warm smiles, kindness, and attentive service from every member of the hotel staff made us feel like honored guests throughout our stay.
We would especially like to recognize the outstanding concierge, João Soares, whose daily care and dedication made our anniversary week truly memorable. He personally assisted us in countless ways, from helping with our accommodations and anniversary celebrations at the hotel—including a bottle of champagne, a beautiful cake, and a heartfelt anniversary card with warm congratulations and best wishes—to providing excellent recommendations that allowed us to experience the very best of Porto.
The hotel enjoys an excellent location, is beautifully maintained, and is impeccably clean both inside and out. The staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure that guests are comfortable and well cared for.
Muito obrigada!
We will never forget the wonderful hospitality we experienced here. The memories of our stay will remain with us for a lifetime, and we look forward to returning again in the future.
