We thought the staff was great. The food was Devine and the location was perfect. We will definitely plan on staying there and recommending it to others.
This is the perfect hotel. The location is great to walk everywhere. The staff are amazing, the rooms are truly some of the nicest, and the food was all so good. Would always stay here when in Porto.
Good location, everything was near but very noise because of construction was going on in front of hotel. Rooms were clean.
Having a breakfast in a very beautiful place but the food was not so good. But still you can order some warm dish from the kitchen. Service was good but I did not like to talk with the people at the front desk. Did not feel comfortable when I talked with them.
Torn on how to rate the hotel bc everything was decent until checkout just now. Maria checked us in and was so kind to explain all of our benefits in detail and gave our daughter some coloring pencils while she waited. We used the chase edit credit here and she explained we would get 90 euro for the first two days and 90 euro credit again the next (we added two nights moving from the Hilton to here instead). I asked if she was sure, given they don’t have to honor the benefit for back to back stays but it is the hotel discretion to which she said yes. I thought thought that was really kind of them so went along with the information given at check-in. Upon checkout, one of the credits was not on the folio which I raised. Maria seemed confused why the credit wasn’t there so brought in a colleague. The colleague stated they only apply that once and I noted what we were told at check in. She argued a while then said she would get the manager. The manager then came and said I don’t want to argue who said what and she would apply the credit. Then when on to say this is not how they do this and how the program works. I said I was aware and knew it was hotel discretion so went with what I was told not once but twice at check in. I can repeat everything in detail as to what was said to me and if they have cameras, they can hear her saying all of this. Even my 5 year old remembered her saying it. She repeated several times not wanting to hash it out on who said it what but then repeating over and over that it’s not how they do it. I left wasting 30 mins to check out and almost missing our train feeling as if they were doing me a favor and being called a liar. When in reality, I remember very clearly who checked us in and what we were told and all remember her saying. We quite literally wouldn’t have gone out of our way to use the credit twice bc the food on property is not good at all but did bc we were told we had two credits. This clearly is a case of the worker not wanting to tell the truth that she misunderstood how they run the credits from the program and not wanting to get in trouble from her rude colleague and manager. Obviously their training needs work and a mistake was made in telling me “you will get 90 euro right now and in two days, another 90 euro credit” but the hostility at the end was uncalled for and they really should have simply said sorry for the mistake, we are handling it. We won’t be coming back to this hotel and I cannot recommend it for this reason.
Beautiful hotel ideally situated so you can walk pretty much everywhere. Hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious for European standards and well appointed. I appreciated the courtyard rooms away from the busy street and construction. The hotel breakfast was excellent, especially the Portuguese pastries. The staff is warm and friendly. Staying here was the ideal start to our holiday!
My husband and I chose InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas for the celebration of our Golden Wedding Anniversary, and we can now say with complete confidence that we made the right choice.
From the moment we arrived until the day of our departure, we felt genuinely welcomed. Warm smiles, kindness, and attentive service from every member of the hotel staff made us feel like honored guests throughout our stay.
We would especially like to recognize the outstanding concierge, João Soares, whose daily care and dedication made our anniversary week truly memorable. He personally assisted us in countless ways, from helping with our accommodations and anniversary celebrations at the hotel—including a bottle of champagne, a beautiful cake, and a heartfelt anniversary card with warm congratulations and best wishes—to providing excellent recommendations that allowed us to experience the very best of Porto.
The hotel enjoys an excellent location, is beautifully maintained, and is impeccably clean both inside and out. The staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure that guests are comfortable and well cared for.
Muito obrigada!
We will never forget the wonderful hospitality we experienced here. The memories of our stay will remain with us for a lifetime, and we look forward to returning again in the future.

Very noisy whole night , old sytle n decoration hotel
The InterContinental is an exceptional hotel. The rooms (including the en suite bathrooms) are spacious and beautifully furnished. The location is ideal. The concierge was a reliable source of excellent recommendations. Hotel breakfasts include made to order egg dishes in addition to a fine buffet. We would happily stay here again if lucky enough to have another visit to Porto.
First class all the way with friendly service. This hotel is a keeper.
location and breakfast were very good
Street fights in the early hours of the morning keep waking us up.
We had a great stay. Clean, beautiful rooms. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Location is great, you can walk anywhere. Thank you for the pampering. Will definitely go back.
Amazing hotel and amazing people working there, breakaway was great and Ines in the reception was fenomenal.
100% recommend.
The staffs in the reception and the concierge were amazingly helpful.
Thank you.
There’s nothing about the property. It’s just to make the constructions going on, but it’s not the property‘s fault.
Location, history of the building
Otelin konumu çok iyi
Kahvaltı daha iyi olabilirdi
Shocked that the hotel would not mention prior to booking that the entire view from our room was a construction site. Also surprised that I could call front desk 8 times over 2 hours and never get somebody to pick up. I’d try another similar level hotel next time.
El diseño, amplitud, limpieza y atención del personal
Me vaciaron mis cosméticos, cremas, que son costosos.
The hotel is exceptionally well located, within walking distance of Porto’s main landmarks, as well as countless excellent restaurants and cafés. From the outside, the property has undeniable charm, with an impressive heritage façade that fits beautifully into the historic surroundings. Unfortunately, much of this historic character seems limited to the exterior, as the interior lacks the same authenticity and refinement one might expect.
Ongoing roadworks around the hotel somewhat affected the overall atmosphere during the stay. While the property aims for a classic style, certain areas seem to have aged less gracefully than expected for a luxury hotel — particularly some of the hallway carpets and furniture, which looked rather worn. The entrance bar and restaurant also feel somewhat dated in style and ambiance.
On the positive side, the bed and mattress were extremely comfortable and ensured an excellent night’s sleep. The bathroom was also very pleasant, featuring a spacious Italian-style walk-in shower. Breakfast was good overall, with a satisfying selection and quality. The gym is fairly basic but perfectly adequate for a short stay.
The real disappointment, however, was the suite. Although reasonably spacious, it was extremely dark and offered virtually no view at all — the windows faced directly onto a wall. This made the room feel gloomy and far from the experience one would expect at this level of hotel. In addition, the air conditioning was surprisingly noisy, which further affected the comfort of the stay.
Another rather misleading aspect was the “spa.” In reality, it consists of only a very small sauna and two tiny treatment rooms, which feels quite underwhelming compared to what the term usually suggests in a luxury hotel setting.
Overall, the hotel benefits from an outstanding location and an attractive historic façade, but several aspects of the property and room experience fall short of the standards one might expect from an InterContinental property.
