Comfortable Central location in Clarens
Pros:

Very central in Clarens. Was offered an upgrade by very kind member of management. Very beautiful ire from bedroom

Cons:

Guest rooms: sink and shower in bedroom. Swimming pool: too close to bar - not attractive location

Always a pleasure staying at the Protea Hotel.
Pros:

Situated in the best spot of the town, close to all the shops. We could park our vehicle and walk all over town. The staff is professional and always smiling.

Nice hotel but real value for money during busy periods.
Pros:

Location is excellent. Staff were very friendly. Good breakfast with lots of choice.

Cons:

They advertise free cancellation and payment at the hotel but immediately after booking I was contacted by the hotel and told that as they were expecting a busy weekend I must pay at least 50% immediately or loose my booking. It was a return visit so this was rather disappointing. The price for 4 nights was very expensive. Inflated for the beer festival which was happening over the weekend. On our last visit there was significant refurbishment being carried out at the property. We were very much looking for the new pool! However the pool which looked fab in pictures was little more than a plunge pool. Definitely not how it appeared on the website.
The bedroom has the shower in the room which if you were sharing with a friend might be a problem with privacy. Wc is separate.

Cons:

Room service/ Dinner menu is very poor. I ordered a gnocchi and it was appalling. Breakfast is well done.

Offenes Bad im Zimmer. Das Zimmer zu klein. Auf unsere Anfrage am Anreisetag zu einem Upgrade auf Zimmer mit Balkon wurden wir auf den nächsten Tag vertröstet, jedoch hat sich während des gesamten Aufenthaltes niemand Verantwortliches mehr gemeldet.

Pros:

Lovely, modern well run hotel. Central to Clarens. Great breakfast.

Cons:

Although good it was 800 rand more than anywhere else we stayed. However, it was the beer festival and the hotel was very nice.
