De gastvrijheid en de ruime kamer. Het ontbijt was erg goed.
Dat de airconditioning niet werkte. Het was 30 graden en de ramen konden ook niet ver open waardoor het erg onaangenaam warm was op de kamer.
Key cards worked
On entering the room the first thing we noticed was how small it was. We were unable to walk around one side of the bed and had to climb over the bed to reach that side. We also noticed how hot it was. We popped the key in the slot and tried to turn on the aircon to be greeted with a flashing spanner on the display. I went to reception to report this and maintenence happened to be in there. They came to have a look and confirmed that it was indeed not working and they would have a look and come back in 5 minutes (we are still waiting for this update 26 hours later.). Other guests on the same floor were also having the same problem and looking at reviews from the previous week it seems it is an ongoing issue that we were just not made aware of. We had to call back to Concierge and ask for a fan which they did provide but this was not offered despite numerous calls about the air conditioning. This was in the middle of the heatwave so very uncomfortable.
The breakfast was the most chaotic experience I have ever had in a hotel. There were not enough tables for the amount of people and therefore we were seated at the bar. The food was tepid at best and we had to go and search for cutlery and drink juice from a coffee cup as they had ran out of glasses. There were lots of staff so that was not the issue. In fact they looked like they did not have enough to do.
Part of the problem is that reception do not tell you any information such as check out times or breakfast times/busiest times for breakfast. We actually overheard a member of staff telling another disgruntled bar dweller that they could book a table for breakfast.
On complaining about the stay in the morning to the receptionist the manager happened to be stood with him but did not make himself known rather allowed his colleague to take the brunt of our frustrations.
Save your money and stay in a Premier Inn.
Great location, lovely staff
A bit tired and worn out, aircon didn’t work in the rooms
Stayed several times before, staff always friendly and helpful. Great location for the Barbican and immediate area, great breakfast. Room was comfortable.
Stayed during the latest heatwave (very hot). Room air-con was set at 19 degrees which we couldn't adjust. This was not cool enough given the overnight heat, so we were uncomfortable all night. Would have also preferred an upper-level room rather than being on the 0-floor. We'd asked for a quiet room and was told it would be - we could hear traffic outside, but not as bad as in some hotels.
Location
Extremely unhelpful staff and very bad attitude.
Check in was quick and easy and the receptionist was polite and upgraded our room. We also arrived a little early and our room was available which was a pleasant surprise. The room was spacious, with a small bottle of Prosecco provided which was a nice touch. Bathroom amenities were good and shower worked well. Hotel was very clean throughout. Breakfast choice was good but very busy at peak times. Hotel location was excellent as we were going to a show at the Barbican and being a weekend it was very quiet on the streets.
We reported the air conditioning was broken in our room as soon as we arrived and were advised someone would be sent to fix it while we were out. Upon returning the air conditioning was still broken and the room was stifling. We reported a second time and again were told someone would be sent. Upon returning to the hotel around 11.30pm it was still broken, a third person came and appeared to fix it however it broke again shortly after. It led to an uncomfortable and unpleasant night during a heatwave. It was mentioned again on checkout and I was told a manager would be in touch but I have not received a call or email at time of writing (4 days later).
The location is excellent - close to The Barbican, and several travel hubs.
Knowing there would be very hot weather during my stay, I had specifically selected a high-end hotel with air conditioning before travelling. However, the air conditioning in my room wasn't working at all. According to the staff at reception, this affected several other rooms and several other guests had complained (as I also witnessed). Over the course of my 3 night stay the hotel failed to fix the air conditioning and staff at reception could not tell me when it would be fixed. As a result, I slept very poorly in the heat. Some guests were offered electric fans and portable air conditioners but these were quite ineffective given the intense heatwave covering London. I've stayed at Montcalm Brewery on many previous visits but on this occasion I feel the hotel failed to meet up to expectations.
Very comfortable and amazing staff/ customer service.
