Nice and spacious room with lots of character. Comfortable bed, large and well equipped bathroom and a fan in the room which helped with the extreme heat.
The breakfast was probably the best I’ve had on this tour.
Comfortable bed, breakfast was excellent. Reception staff were brilliant, especially the Spanish lady, she was exceptionally helpful. We went for our anniversary and it was lovely to have a card in the room, great touch. Nice cocktails!
The tuna sandwich at lunch was done with bread you get at a supermarket, it would have been much nicer with bloomer bread for example. The toilet paper needs to be better quality, however this is just being picky!
Beautiful setting in historic building. The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Loved the breakfast and the cheerful breakfast dining area with views of the garden
Bathroom was small but very clean and updated
English breakfast
This is a well looked after old property with a lovely garden/patio area to sit in. Being old it comes with the expected creaky floors. The beds are comfortable and the room clean. No complaints there other than road noise. Breakfast is cooked to order with fruit and cereal available buffet-style.
This is not a cheap hotel so the expectations are always going to be higher. Reception staff were friendly, restaurant staff were a little "stressed" when we asked for a table with no prior booking. It was obviously not a full sitting at our time of arrival. Nonetheless we were seated and an hour later we'd gone (restaurant still not full). Our room was well appointed and comfortable but was roadside (it's a very busy road). Double glazing can only do so much for noise reduction. The road does quieten down by 8pm but obviously there's always some traffic. The real issue is noise from rooms above. The property is an old building and unless you have a top floor room you'll hear every footstep lound and clear from the guests above. So if you're a light sleeper ask for a room on the top floor and at the rear of the property. As our room was a junior suite you'd have thought this was a given but it isn't. Breakfast is ok - nothing outstanding but not terrible either. The hotel is a good central location for Cotswolds attractions and the town has a variety of restaurants and bars all within easy walking distance.
breakfast was excellent!
The peace, the ambience, the overall vibes.
Nothing
We were staying in a cottage with friends on the next road and decided to call in at the Manor House for drinks with a view to staying here on our next visit.
The hotel is lovely but to be honest have never come across such unwelcoming staff. At evening drinks in the bar we decided to enquire about breakfast there the following morning as non residents. The gentleman at the bar advised us to enquire at Reception. The receptionist was unhelpful and made us feel awkward and unwelcome and was only interested in taking the £80 payment but then decided we should pay after eating the breakfast. We arrived for breakfast , and the welcome (or no welcome) was even worse. I can’t remember the number of times he mentioned we were non residents. We were still eating our cereal when he asked for our hot food order which we hadn’t decided on , this clearly irritated him and he said ‘ people are usually ready to order now this is when the chef cooks the food ‘ No smile, no pleasantries, no eye contact at all. We headed out to pay at Reception, a different receptionist to the previous evening but just as rude. There was an American lady checking out before us who said thank you as she left … absolutely no response from the receptionist whatsoever. We will definitely not be enquiring about staying next year despite the lovely hotel and good food. Being in customer service for over 30 years I suggest your staff need some training as the way we were spoken to and their manner towards us is unacceptable. Maybe they don’t like tourists/visitors but should remember we all go on holiday and are ‘tourists’ somewhere. We have visited the Cotswolds every year in hotels and self catering and everyone has been very welcoming and polite until this. Such a shame
The breakfast was very good Freshly cooked and the service was excellent.
There was some noise from a wedding party but we were warned in advance and it didn’t go on after midnight
Ideally situated for our stay
We found the bed a little hard and pillows uncomfortable. In the bathroom had to wait a long time for hot water to come through.
Perfect location, Hospitality, Lovely room
We got upgraded to their Apple cottage which was fantastic! I wish I could have stayed longer. I loved their garden, the restaurant, lounge area which felt like a living room and the location close to the station.
I liked everything.
Breakfast
The dining room is BEAUTIFUL and the staff was really friendly and accommodating; the lobby has a fireplace and a library and comfortable furniture; We arrived too early to check in so we were able to store our luggage, which they very kindly delivered to our room; While the room was in a 400+year old part of the building, the hotel had done updates to make the age of the room less apparent. The bathroom was fully renovated and there were single USB outlets by each bedside table and some near the desk. We received shortbread cookies every day and we had coffee and a coffee machine. Breakfast was outstanding---fresh baked goods and meals cooked to order....Very, very, nice;; Desk staff was very nice although we questioned the accuracy of some of the things we were told regarding WIFI.
This hotel has a new portion and an old portion; Our room was in the old portion; Our room was one of two extra large rooms in the hotel; It was situated on the top floor, far away from the lobby; There was no lift available in this section of the hotel so we had to negotiate a total of 33 stairs -broken up into flights of 3, 6, 10 individual stairs connected with little hallways. ; Each set of stairs was closed off by firedoors. It could only be described as a rabbit warren; Because there was no signage directing us to the lobby, I ended up in the basement twice until I figured out the route!
Our room had a lovely bed and chairs and a desk, While the bathroom was newly renovated, there were no electrical outlets in it; The bathroom had a shower in a tub and, while very stylish, the size and contour of the tub made going in and out a bit hazardous;
The most frustrating part of our stay involved WIFI. WIFI was available in our room if I stood by the hallway door or went into the hallway. Otherwise, getting or keeping a WIFI connection while in our room was nearly impossible. The front desk finally admitted that WIFI reception could be a little spotty; When we asked to change rooms, there were no rooms available.
Be aware that there is no air conditioning in the room, although we did have a fan; The windows need to be opened for air circulation and there was some road noise since our room was on the front side of the hotel;
