We have been frequent guests at this country hotel, visiting monthly for its exceptional restaurant, appealing location, pleasant ambience, and excellent food and settings. These qualities have consistently made it our preferred destination and treated friends and family members to join us.
Regrettably, our most recent experience was disappointing and differed significantly from previous visits. During breakfast, we were met with an unexpectedly firm and unwelcoming attitude from Maria, a member of the staff. Despite the kitchen still being open, we were refused a hot breakfast at 9a.m., and her explanation for this decision was neither clear nor satisfactory. While we appreciate that the hotel may have been particularly busy due to a conference, the manner in which this was communicated did not reflect the warmth and hospitality we have come to expect.
Additionally, the food served to my son was noticeably below the usual standard: the portion was half its usual size and the single egg provided was overcooked and unpalatable. This stood in stark contrast to our past positive experiences, where service and meal quality have always been excellent.
While we continue to value the hotel’s many strengths, we were sincerely disappointed by this recent encounter, which was unfortunately marred by an uncharacteristically hard attitude and diminished food quality.
Great place to stay, nice walks nearby. Hotel looks newly freshened up. Great decor and style. Staff are lovely. Could do with a mirror also in the bedroom as once you have had a shower the one in the bathroom takes a while for the steam to go. Also if your partner is in there you can't get ready to you can use the bathroom mirror.

Good sized room - friendly staff in a tranquil environment. Breakfast was excellent. Evening meal was on the small side but otherwise a great stay.
The property was "Ok". Nothing especially bad, but pretty basic and, on a hot night, lacking ventilation. For the price, it's not bad value.

Cantley House Hotel is in a peaceful location and very close to Wokingham town centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an issue with our room but we were moved to a different room immediately and upgraded. The room was very clean and comfortable and breakfast was very good.

Have stayed at this hotel 4 or 5 times recently and overall been very impressed. Placed in room 21 this time and very dissapointed. Room not up to usual haigh standard.
Nice main room with a little wear around room. Some uneven paint and a couple of marks on walls.
Bathroom wasnt of usual cleanliness with some obvious repair of tiles, some water damage to shower area, and grubiness around room with a dripping tap.
Room is located next to service room. A couple of times through the night i was awoken to (what sounded like) the hoover momentarily going on.
Like previously said, we have stayed here previously and been impressed with the hotel. Avoid room 21

Not happy with the service charge in the restaurant no one told us there would be a charge when i signed the bill
Threshold to the bathroom room 21 carpet frayed and i stood on the gripper rod twice a burt my foot.
Location was convenient but sometimes we felt like we were in Fawlty Towers. Waited 10 mins at an unmanned reception to check in. Clearly very focused on events and not hotel guests, so appeared very disorganised. Individual people were fine and Stables restaurant was awesome but the hotel is now very dated and clealry more staff are needed.
The fact theres a charge on card just incase theres any damage to room
