The location was lovely
It just wasn't for us, room was very small, very hot and the smell wasn't great, I don't know if it was dog but I just couldn't stay. The whole area we walked through was very dated. We left, unfortunately we didn't feel comfortable there. I don't know how they have scored such high reviews, very confused. The people seemed very nice and friendly.
Wish I had a wee bit more time to checkout but no big deal whatsoever
It was child & dog friendly, warm & welcoming..
Didn't like the fine dining, not because the food was bad. I'm not the find dining sort of person. I'd rather have a hosem menu..
The location of the hotel is its best feature. Beautifully positioned by the river with good, easy access to the village and shops of Betsw-y-coed. The location, which they seem to be trading off of, was the only good thing about this hotel.
I booked their Superking/twin room (room 1) described as 'entire unit wheelchair accessible' on Booking.com (I am disabled and use a wheelchair) but found this not to be true. The toilet and shower rooms were separate and only the door/entrance into the toilet had been widened to accommodate wheelchair width. Access to the walk-in shower had not been modified and so it was impossible with door position and and angles to have a shower.
Ramp from the car park to reception and room was very steep and was not suitable for wheelchair use. Very difficult for anyone pushing someone either up or down.
Room 1 is not in the main block and reached via a path around the building. It is very poorly lit at night and I came off the narrow path in my wheelchair into the shrubbery, which was witnessed by a staff member. However, no help was offered and no follow up from management as to injuries etc.
My daughter asked Michelle (reception) if another room was available as we were not happy with room 1 but was met with "no", with no offer to rectify issues or other alternatives.
This is not a 4 star hotel in either its facilities or management. The room was dingy, no socket near to either single bed, no wall-anchored grab rails in toilet, no small fridge, a light on the wall with no shade, Wi-Fi turned off at night and beds that were impossible to sit/sleep on as no support. Porterage help with luggage was never offered (though advertised on their website), even though Michelle could see my daughter struggling in the rain and myself in a wheelchair.
Craig-y-Dderwen has the potential to be a wonderful hotel, which I feel it once was. Sadly, apart from its riverside location, 3 stars would be generous.
We booked a 2 night stay and decided to leave after the first night to find alternative accommodation. Mark (reception) was cold, put our complaints back on us and did not offer to rectify our issues.
The location was stunning. It was a short easy walk into Betws y coed, the hotel was set in stunning scenery, and the staff/facilities were lovely. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
I can’t think of anything other than maybe more lighting on the driveway when its dark.
Staff was excellent and very friendly. We stayed in one of the lodges that was very clean and comfortable with beautiful location and views of the river. The dinner was superb! Delicious. We would definitely go back.
The bed in the lodge/cottage unit was a bit uncomfortable. The edges sloped down on both sides so you had to make sure you didn't sleep near the edge. But other than that...the bed and bedding was comfortable.
Food was unbelievable and the views and location are superb. Staff are brilliant and can't do enough for you
Main entrance and reception is a bit dated. Wasn't a double bed, 2 singles put together
Brilliant dog friendly hotel. Friendly staff and very cosy.
Friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
Superb location and great accomodation with ramp to make it easier.
Delicious food from a first rate Chef (Michelin & Rosettes).
We enjoyed everything!
The location was beautiful the staff was outstanding, my room considering it was standed and dog friendly was large and spotless clean, my dog was just as welcome as we were.
