Best Western Thurrock Hotel

Not very clean, dated/run down. Curtains didn’t close all the way.

Absolutely nothing to report here.

Bed was very uncomfortable with the thinnest quilt possible and it was so cold I couldn’t sleep. The electrics tripped twice in my one night stay.

We'd ordered room service on Friday night as we were tired after a long drive. Unfortunately the tray remained uncollected for the duration of our stay, even thought we'd put it outside the room. I also requested extra toilet rolls on Saturday morning as we went off to a wedding reception, which were not delivered, even after a follow up message left on the reception voicemail later that afternoon. In the end I hunted down some extras from the public loos.

Nothing i really liked it

On arrival only one member of staff on duty doing the booking in an restaurant.

The customer service was very poor, especially considering I was travelling with a baby. I repeatedly called reception requesting water for my child, but no one responded in time. Because I was waiting for assistance while packing, I was delayed past the 11:00 AM check-out time.

Despite explaining the situation, I was asked to pay an additional £20, which was unreasonable given the lack of support. A crib was not provided despite my request, and staff refused to give warm water for preparing my baby’s formula.

I eventually had to go to a nearby hotel, where they immediately helped and provided warm water without any issue. This highlights the lack of basic care and empathy at this property.

The only downside (and im having to really look for these) was that there was no lift and the decor was a little dated. The decor was charming and everything was neat and well looked after and very very clean.

Lighting in the room was either full on or off, no reading / low light. TV was in a weird position. Toilet was so close to bath and the heated towel rail you could barely sit on it without burning your legs. If I was a larger person, I'm not sure I would have been able to fit on it at all.

Hotel for a quick overnight stop near the motorway, but my second experience here was very disappointing.

At check-in the receptionist asked me to pay again even though the stay had already been paid in advance through the reservation. This resulted in a double payment. I have now been trying to resolve this for a week.

This appears to be a clear mistake by the reception, but instead of fixing it the hotel simply told me to sort it out myself with Booking.com. The management showed no real interest in resolving the issue, even though they acknowledged that two payments were taken.

As a guest you may end up paying twice and then spend weeks trying to recover your money while the hotel tells you to deal with someone else. After such incompetence at reception and the unwillingness of management to resolve the problem, it is hard to imagine why anyone would return.

Hotel was empty but we still got a rubbish room. All the windows were in need of repair with broken latches and gaps around the frames. Shower only just drained quick enough to stop the tray overflowing, so showering had to be quick. No mechanical ventilation in the bathroom so very steamy. Quality of food in fried breakfast was poor and mostly undercooked but was very hot, so I'm assuming it had been microwaved.
My wife and Ihave multiple bed-bug bites from this hotel. The bed was not comfortable.
