I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The lobby is pleasant, the rooms are large and well appointed. I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. It has a terrific egg station, many healthy options, and plenty of variety to suit most palates.
Highly recommend
- Their location is very good. Very near nijo market, just opposite the hotel only
- City center also within 10 mins walking
- Since I drove car, we used their parking facilities . Hotel provide automated car parking (first time experience this in Japan). Quite fun to see how the car parking works.
- They provide complimentary hot chocolate, microwave, tea at level 2.
- However room was very small, quite basic hotel. Toilet also small & squeezy.
- Rubbish bin iniside toilet is super small 😓😓 maybe is common in Japan to have very small bin, but not common in Singapore. It get full very quickly!
- For my experience some of the staffs didn’t speak good English, so there was a time where we find abit difficult to communicate with them & they need to refer me to their colleague who spoke more fluent english.
Enjoyed my stay
Location is excellent right by Susukino entertainment district. Subway is 5 minutes away and you can walk to Sapporo Station in 20 minutes. Staff is great as always with Marriott. Rooms are very spacious for Japanese hotels. Bathrooms are dated but clean and functional. The room had a large window and balcony which was nice but you could not go outside. Biggest complaint - cigarette smells in hallways and in room. I had to have an air cleaner brought into the room and switched out daily as the filter would get dirty. The curtains are kind of musty smelling as well. This is a common problem in Japanese hotels. It is a "non smoking" hotel but there is a "smoking room" located on the 2nd floor right by the fitness center ironically.
Would stay here again if they can get the cigarette smell problem under control. I did not dine in any of the restaurants.
The location is good, close to the famous places.
Location is good and staffs are very kind.
On this trip, I booked a triple room since a friend was joining us. Traveling at the end of February, I found it to be great value for money, but you really need to book early; prices go up the later you wait. The welcome gifts were generous, including three items: drinks, snacks, and I can't remember the third one since I immediately chose breakfast! 😆 The drinks were individual bottles of juice, which were tasty, and the snacks were chocolates that I haven't eaten yet.
The room had enough space for all three of us, with our 30-inch luggage fitting comfortably. I appreciated the wooden floors too. That night, the temperature dropped to -3 degrees. The hotel had enforced heating, but you could slightly open the window for ventilation. They also provided a humidifying air purifier in the room, so it didn't feel too dry. The sofa bed was of good quality as well. The entire room was clean and fresh, with a long bathtub that was suitable for someone who is 6 feet tall, and the water pressure and temperature were just right.
The hotel was well-prepared; the triple room had all amenities for three people. Even the complimentary coffee capsules increased from 6 to 9. There were also three sets of toiletries, slippers, and pajamas.
For titanium elite members, the breakfast offer included three persons as well. The restaurant where breakfast was served had a high ceiling and was bright and fresh. There were many delicious food options, including all-you-can-drink Hokkaido milk, unlimited mentaiko, and the famous Hokkaido soup curry. They had a wide variety of Western-style breads and an egg station.
One standout feature was the polite front desk staff, who communicated in English with a friendly smile. We stayed on February 26 and then traveled to other places, returning on March 1. The front desk proactively offered to store our luggage that we wouldn’t need for the next few days, allowing us to pick it up when we checked in again on the 1st. This service was fantastic; we left two 20-inch suitcases and a backpack, which made our vehicle lighter and freed up space.
The hotel’s location is super convenient, just 50 meters from the Nijo Market, and directly across from the entrance to Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade. It’s not far to return to the hotel after shopping! The hotel parking is limited and can only accommodate smaller vehicles; taller cars won't fit. However, there’s another parking lot just 20 meters away, which is very convenient.
I was very satisfied with both stays and highly recommend this hotel! When we returned on March 1, the service was just as good, the room was tidy, and breakfast was delicious.

The Sapporo Fairfield Marriott was Centrally located, comfortable, and served as a great base hotel for our vacation in the Sapporo area.
Pretty solid
Good room size. Very clean. Good location.
The hotel’s thermostat was completely fake! I woke up drenched in sweat, thinking I was getting sick, only to realize the temperature gauge was misleading, showing 10-20°F cooler than the actual room temperature. I almost went to see a doctor before finding out that the room temperature was centrally controlled by the hotel. This was frustrating and misleading, and I’ll definitely be sharing my experience on travel review sites. Thankfully, I switched to other hotels in the area that offered a better experience.
I’ve stayed at every type of Marriott, from small-town locations in Iowa to the Ritz in Tokyo, but this was by far the most off-brand Marriott experience I’ve encountered. The staff seemed mostly indifferent, and there was rarely anyone at the front desk who spoke English. While I understand that English speakers may be limited in Japan, it was still disappointing. The only exception was Ruben, who was fluent in English, genuinely helpful, and honest—truly a bright spot in an otherwise poor experience.
We moved to the Solaria Hotel for the same rate, and it was a vast improvement.
Upon checking out, I discovered the thermostat issue was real and confirmed by the staff: it doesn’t actually control the temperature, which is managed centrally. I also learned the hotel was recently acquired by Marriott, and it clearly has a long way to go before it meets the brand’s usual standards.
Clean & tidy
Location wise, this is a good place to stay. The hotel is literally 1 min away from Nijo Market as well as the start of Tanukikoji shopping street. The nearest subway stop is Susukino Station which is about 8 mins walk away. Or if you prefer to walk, Sapporo Main station is 22 mins away. Hotel is clean and nicely furnished. Only peeve I have is that even as a Platinum member, they only allow me to check-out at 2pm instead of 4pm.

Fairview Hotel by Marriot at Sapporo Japan:
With decades of travel experience, we have never had a worse stay and have so little value from our paid rate. From the start, it was a bad experience and only got worse over the four nights we stayed. The checkin staff tried to make us pay an extra fee for a slightly larger room (2 square meters larger), which should be afforded us as Gold Elite Bonvoy members (according to the rules) that is in the same room category. However, this hotel says that they do not adhere to the rules of the Bonvoy program and don’t have to follow any protocol from the Marriot group. They refused to check us in unless we pay ¥4,700 per night more for the already extremely high price of ¥62,800 per night. Keep in mind that this place is listed as a three-star hotel (although it is more a two star at best). The staff are incredibly racist and speak in a manner that is not how customers are normally addressed in Japanese. After threatening to have our credit card company get involved, the staff relented and checked us in without additional payment but changed the room to the very smallest of all the rooms as a sort of punishment. The room we were in is the size of a closet. The environment looks like a prison bare. The sheets are uncomfortable rough polyester. We asked for cotton sheets and was told that they only have these polyester type that gave us red bumps. We had to ask twice for little soaps (bar soap) as this hotel only has bulk pump soap dispensers in the bathrooms. We asked for a room with the front view and not even that request was fulfilled. The morning breakfast is an additional fee of nearly ¥3,000 per person with the quality of food very mediocre and the staff lazy & unresponsive. Any request to replenish empty troughs of food was ignored or conveniently stalled. The orange machine was overflowing from not cleaning the filter and when we brought it to the attention of staff, they pretended to be too busy to attend to it, brushing us off as if we shouldn’t tell them. There are many more reasons why we would not recommend this property and would not recommend the Bonvoy Marriot program but even this review will be ignored by the company so there is little point in going on. Just know not to stay here and to look for other places that do have some pride in making their guests feel welcome. We did not feel welcome and we paid over ¥230,000 for a four night stay in stuffy small room with uncomfortable sheets trying to avoid racist, rude, and unhelpful staff.
We are reconsidering our use of the Marriot Bonvoy program as it seems to be useless with regards to usage or recognition of elite status. We would get better treatment at any hotel, paying less, having less stress, and not expect anything from a worthless Bonvoy program.
