Umzimkulu River Lodge

Beautiful view, peaceful environment, well equipped cabin. I’ve reviewed this facility before and it was unfortunately not positive; but I was pleasantly surprised this time!

Not happy. Please add to the description that it is definitely NOT disabled friendly and not a 3star Hotel!!

Beautiful property and area. Pygmy Cottage needs a facelift though! Some areas of tiles cracked, grout dirty, paint peeling, cornices pulling away and generally just run-down and in need of a make-over.

Super place, amazing owners, food was Devine and we had a very restful time. Only drawback was the steep staircase, a bit difficult to manover at our age (55+) but the rest was amazing. Definitely will go back.

Leuke locatie, zeer aardige mensen. Cabin iets gedateerd maar wel lekker elektrische dekens op de bedden (want het was koud!). Je kunt ook in de bar pool biljarten en darten. Erg gezellig.

Stayed one night in a cosy cottage with fully equipped kitchen, important for us as we self cater. The staff was nice and the gentleman (forgot his name) was very helpful, he lit the fire for us in the cottage. The fireplace in the cottage makes it as a real lodge experience.

Was a pleasure to stay in Umzimkulu River Lodge near to the Drakensberg. A nice accomodation with a great and very friendly staff! Breakfast was also very good! Book it!

We are on a rather long stay in southern Africa, which means staying in many types of lodging. This place was like a sanctuary from the hotel grind. The owners are warm and welcoming, the site is absolutely beautiful, and it has all the amenities we needed. Too bad we were only there one night because this lodge could serve as a virtual retreat from the stress of travel. We would have enjoyed more time simply to sit outside and watch and listen to the river flow.

Welcoming hosts, excellent service

Man sollte auf jeden Fall vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit bei der Unterkunft ankommen, weil die Umgebung und das Gelände nicht gut beleuchtet ist. Wir haben vor Ort ein Upgrade auf den "Honeymoon Suite" bekommen. Das Zimmer war zwar sehr groß, aber wirkte relativ abgewohnt und könnte definitiv eine Renovierung vertragen. Die Umgebung ist sagenhaft schön und die Inhaber haben sich sehr bemüht uns bei den Ausflügen zu unterstützen. Das Frühstück haben wir mangels Alternativen hinzugebucht, war aber im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels relativ teuer.

Nous avons séjourné dans ce charmant havre de paix situé au bord d'une rivière en plein milieu de la nature et à une quainzaine de minute de Underberg. Notre location était spacieuse avec tout le confort, et un bel espace extérieur pour faire barbecue et repas sur la terrasse.Je conseille vivement cet endroit et remercie les propriétaires qui sont accueillants et très sympas.

Schöne Gartenanlage. Cottages zur Selbstverwaltung, aber auch ein kleines Restaurant und Bar für Frühstück und Lunch sind dabei. Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis! Ruhig gelegen.

It was absolutely fantastic. The owners and staff were friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be returning there.

This charming cottage, located in a perfect setting, had loads of character, tranquility, space and privacy, beautifully decorated, delightful host and staff, and surpassed our highest expectations - we adored every minute of our stay - thank you very much to Stephen, Eurika, Nono (wonderful Bobotie!) and all the staff for the warm welcome and wonderful hospitalty - we'll certainly be back but for longer next time.

This river side chalet accommodation is a truly beautiful place. The small town of Underberg is nearby where you can buy anything you might need. Although the chalets are self catering, the food that can be bought on site is fabulous, very tasty and good value. If you love hiking, this area is superb for walks and is not far to the Sani Pass.
