I would have given this place one star (the lowest possible), but the extensive range at the breakfast buffet (although largely-stone cold, even for supposedly 'hot' dishes) and a reasonable restaurant meal got it an extra star.
1. We arrived 45 mins before check-in time, and were told the room was not released. Fair enough, but we were not told when it WAS released and sat looking at the (nice) view until the 3pm check-in time.
2. We were then led in our vehicle by a buggy with two male staff members (it is a LONG way to the rooms). On showing us the correct bungalow they they departed, making no attempt to help with the baggage up the stairs to the bungalow.
3. The room was best described as 'tired', requiring urgent renovation.
4. There was no toilet roll holder - broken, gone and not replaced. There was only enough body lotion and shampoo for 1 person, not a coulple, so the (one) tiny cake of soap was needed.
5. The 'standard for Malaysia' by the toilet wall-mounted bidet hose handle had broken, and been inexpertly put back together. It came apart, spraying water all over the toilet enclosure (and guest).
6. The toilet was not clean and the seat was broken.
7. Most of the outlet holes in the over-head rain-type showerhead were blocked, giving a very uneven distribution of water flow.
8. The (empty) mini-bar fridge was inoperative, although this was replaced promptly when I immediately reported that (I had insulin I needed to keep refrigerated).
9. Of greatest concern is that the online information about the two restaurants and room service (and the room service menu placed in the room) are GROSSLY MISLEADING. Bytes operated only 8pm to 10pm (not 7am to 11pm), the main restaurant also only from 8pm (plus for breakfast). Room service is 8pm to 10pm, not 11am to 11.30pm as per the online information and the in-room menu.
Our dinner at the restaurant was (eventually, when they opened) reasonably-priced and tasty- although most of my initial choices from the menu were 'not available'.
10. For the mobility-impaired, the hotel DOES have a lift. They have just hidden it very well and it has nil signage.
11. While friendly, the attitude of the staff was 'don't give a damn'. I was told the Terengganu people are 'laid back' and relaxed. Fine. But when staying at a supposedly 5-star hotel (I assume that is a self-rating) a total disinterest in the guests by staff is not acceptable.
On check-out I reported the above to the on-duty manageress. No actual apology (even when I told her I was explaining why they would get a bad review) and the only sign of surprise was the lack of assistance with the luggage.
5 star??? NO. At best 3 star.
NOT RECOMMENDED.
The staff is oke, friendly but they don’t speak very good English tho. The accomodation itself is big but very old dated. I felt like it wasn’t very clean as well. I read a review about this resort that there are bed bugs. And yes I found them too or similar insects. I was supposed to stay two more nights but after the discovery of those insects I left. I told them about the bed bugs and the guy at the reception didn’t care at all!? The breakfast is also very disappointing and not worth your money. I would not recommend this place. It has four stars probably because of the other facilities they offer. Don’t book it!
Reviews of this hotel gave a 4 star rating, but frankly it was awful. Dirty, rundown and unkept. We had booked for 2 nights and prepaid, but we left the day after arriving it was that. Only thing going for it was the friendliness of the staff, but that is a Terengganu thing!
Looks good on reviews, but stay here at your peril.
Firstly on the positive side. The air conditioning was very good and the grounds pleasant to walk in.
The rooms or chalets:
The wifi doesn’t work
There is no hot water - shower, bath or wash basin
There is no bath plug - when I enquired I was told not to use the bath as it didn’t work. Absolute nonsense. There is no stopper so you need to improvise - a lemon put into the exit pipe keeps the water in the tub. Tub is about 2.5m x 2m - so the type a family may sit in. Forget enjoying yourself - no hot water and unhelpful staff.
The staff are very lazy, exceptionally lazy even by Malaysian standards. Can’t be found to operate the buggy service. Can’t take bags to reception for storage for two hours. Just so generally unhelpful. However, to get away with such extraordinarily bad service, management must be flawed to tolerate it. In short, the whole staff need to be fired and start again.
A poor experience! A local I was visiting said it used to be a good hotel which has gone down hill drastically - you can certainly say that again.
Overall experience was good. But, there are a few things to be concerned about.
Firstly, the room was dusty. My nose became sensitive and uncomfortable when I turned on the air-conditioning.
Secondly, when I checked in during the evening, the room next to ours had used plates and utensils outside the door. The next day, when I checked out, those plates and utensils were still there, and nothing had changed. Flies were also buzzing around them. I had called the hotel staff multiple times to bring water bottles, but they didn't seem to notice or clear the things outside the room.
Thirdly, the bathroom sink was found to be obstructed. In my view, the management should prioritize ensuring the rooms are in optimal condition through thorough inspections before extending room services to guests.
Taking care of small things like keeping everything clean and paying attention to details can greatly improve the overall experience for guests.
Has the worst experience when going for candle light dinner last year. Since we are not familiar with the area and did not know where to find the venue of our candle light dinner, we asked the staff near the reception area about it. First we were replied harshly without asking us first where we are going and was told that he already told where is the parking before to us despite that we were just arrived.
At first we just ignored the staff since maybe he had mistaken us for other people. When we find our own way to the parking lot, he has the audacity to come to our car, knocked our door and scolded us rudely stating that he already told us where to park to go to the hotel room. I was so furious since it was late at night, we were already late to the candle light dinner and that staff didnt even bother to ask us where we are going before literally scolding us rudely assuming that we were other people.
When i rebuted and said where we were going and we never asked where to go to the hotel room and such, the staff just left without saying sorry. Worst attitude ever!
Mind you it was late at night, no proper lighting to see where to go and i also felt sorry if the other person before us that supposedly where asked where to go to the hotel room were not even ushered to that place by that staff.
Please improve on your customer service! It is very bad. I never experience this kind of service. That staff did not even properly greet us when we arrived. He was busy talking to his friend in front of the lobby for reception. Surely i will not come to this place again
Booked for 2 night stay, during weekdays with a hope it will be a good, smooth stay with the family. However it turns out to be a terrible one for me.
1. My room are only ready at 4:30pm despite the check in should be at 3:00pm.. i even requested for early check in, and 4:30pm is the "earliest".
2. They gave me room 1303 lower ground, then after my husb has unpack our luggage, n ready to put my baby to sleep, they called asking us to move to 1301 (upper floor). He has to pack n bring d kids all d way up, and knowing the only difference is they prepared a swan deco only. Can u guys imagine the chaotic we went through for that thing only?
3. The best part has come, once we have settled down, baby has asleep, we put her on the bed and to realized that the bed is broken 😭 and ive decided not to complain just because im tired of moving up and down with our kids n big luggages..
4. Lastly on our very last day i talked to the reception staff, those that we have experienced and ask if there is anything that Duyong Marina can compensate.. i was hoping a discount for the hotel room, or discounts for our in dining room. NOPE, they said sorry and only offer me a gift bag that has Duyong Marina tumbler/flask.. I was totally upset with the whole thing going on and advice all of you to go find other hotel. It doesnt worth the price at all, believe me.. this includes their poorly maintained resort.. u will NOT get that 4star hotel experienced here..
Spacious Room, Nice Surrounding, Need Perform Cleanliness on Room.
Stayed for large bed, room was spacious, have balcony to enjoyed scenery with many trees. Great breakfast. Food was delicious. Bathroom quite huge BUT need to do deep cleaning on bathroom.
The room, unfortunately, got downgraded from what I've booked a week before my stay. Was promised to refund but haven't done it yet
WARNING: Do NOT Book Here!!!
Cleaning standards are literally disgusting and im not usually fussy. Theres black mold all over the bath tub, you know what black mold im talking about. The type of mold you get when you dont frequently clean the toilet.
That means, they dont clean or wipe anything. Honestly, absolutely disgusting and im so disappointed. Its probably one of the most expensive hotels in kuala terennganu, and its such a waste of money,
Toilet seat BROKEN, literally not attached to the toilet so it slides all the time. Disgusting thinking about if my bum slides off the toilet seat, it means ill be sitting on someones waste. D I S G U S T I N G.
I can understand these standards if i paid for a cheap, quick stay hotel, but this hotel is ment to be a top hotel and they certainly charge as if they are top. Please, just please dont waste your money. Its simple, they either clean and maintain their rooms properly or people should really not book here.
My brother and his family also booked here and he said the same thing before i even brought it up. So i am being fair when i say this, im not just moaning because of my bad experience. Its a really dirty dirty hotel.
Also: im not 100% sure (trying to be fair here) but i have suspicion that there was bed bugs! Me and my wife have been bitten like crazy everyday. We was convinced it was mosquitos but when i was staying awake standing guard so my wife can sleep in peace, i seen non to kill. It confused me as first because she still woke up and got more bites (and said i did a crap job guarding) but now im thinking it must be bed bugs because the place is soooo dirty it just makes sense.
Please please just do not book here. Save yourselves!!
The resort is beautiful and ideal for relaxing. The staff was very helpful and prompt in responding to our requests. We stayed in a chalet, which was spacious but need to be refurbished, especially the bathroom. The sink in our room was cracked and the shower needed to be changed. For the condition of the room, the price should not be more that RM 250 per night. But we stayed during a public holiday - so perhaps that was why it was expensive.
Before coming here after reading previous comments i thought its going to be bad but it was otherwise. This place is well maintained and the staff are friendly.Maybe it depends on how we speak to them. For me for this hotel after the pandemic etc they are slowly tidying the place. Its a clean place and breakfast is good and the view is great.
this hotel has nice private resort setting in Pulau Duyong however it seems like no maintenance whatsoever is being done to its facilities as wear and tear are obvious everywhere. service was mixed with some are friendly while one receptionist was just uninterested. it has alot of potential sadly to become a world class resort.
Spacious room but not so clean, old equipment. Breakfast was good with variety of food. But overall just average hotel, I won’t come back again.
Its a resort but not quite, over priced food. Hard to get to city from the resort and room had no hot water and not very clean. Needs a major upgrade
A run down place.
We stayed for a night at the Chalet Serambi. Externally the facilities looks okay but inside were terrible. Our room was poorly maintained, aircond unit was noisy, the bedsheet was not clean, iron is broken, in summary the facilities need to be upgraded and refurbished. Not worth of 5 star hotel.
I loved the village like ambience of the resort. The buildings were all wooden village style.
The room we stayed was a Deluxe room with a King Bed. The bed was comfortable and I had to request for an extra bed for our kids which was eventually just a mattress, sheets, blanket & pillow.
The staff were friendly & the breakfast was OK.
I can see why a lot of people are disappointed with the resort as it's badly maintained. I hope the management really considers into refurbishing its facilities.
Book last minute for one night stay in this resort. First impression the villa visually appealing and stunning. Unfortunately the room we stayed was poorly maintained. Hopefully the owner of the resort take some action to refurbished this resort. I’m sure the management have addressed this issue persistently.
The breakfast area luckily there was a lift accessible for wheelchair. The food was great so happy we were enjoyed with local breakfast Nasi Dagang as well Nasi Lemak. Check out was smooth by the receptionist. Thank you to buggy driver who always be there for their service towards our family despite raining.
Stayed here for a night.... Place and ambience was nice... Room looks a bit old .. phone and water heater didn't work so had a cold shower, breakfast was okay... Children under 6 years old can have free breakfast... The receptionist was not so friendly especially the trainee... Didn't smile and didn't greet customers well...
