We loved the location of the property and the grounds….
Our room was comfortable and practical, although it looked a bit tired in places I think it just added to the character of the place…
We will be back
Always make a booking based on your recommendations. This was categorized as fabulous, quite angry when we left early as it was a horrendous stay. Booked for two nights left after one even though we had to pay for the full two nights. The review said free public Wi-Fi but was informed not available in the room. When we explained that we needed Wi-Fi we were told that we could have another room with Wi-Fi but it would cost us another £200! We were told that there was Wi-Fi down in the ground floor, but we had to walk around to find somewhere for a decent signal. I didn’t sleep all night as the pillows felt like bouncy spounges and it was hot under the douvay and cold in the room. It took 20 minutes drive to the nearest civilization. Would not have booked this hotel if the description by yourselves were more accurate. Hated the hotel but very disappointed with hotels.com
The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough. The property on the outside could do with a bit of spruce up as it was looking a little tried. If you are looking for a low key stay with a quiet ambience this is for you. I will be coming back as both me and the wife enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to coming back.
An excellent experience at the Scafell Hotel with such a friendly atmosphere. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing. When we had our Christmas lunch it was a lovely touch that the owner came around the room to welcome all of his guests. The open fires in the bar and lounge made it such a cosy and welcoming place to stay. I would definitely recommend the Scafell and look forward to returning one day.
Nice Hotel in a great location. Room was very clean and well presented. Its not a gleaming modern Hotel but that would feel out of place. The decor is very traditional and I loved the old photo's dotted around the place. Excellent breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative would be that the outside paintwork could do with a refresh.
Excellent three night stay very comfortable excellent food
Good location for hiking and nature soaking. Great staff. 👍
Lovely
Great Hotel .. would stay again
Lovely location, great shower nice sitting rooms. The staff who were there were excellent but like most British hotels they were sadly understaffed in the restaurant and cafes leading to very limited items on the menu which were temporarily the same in the main restaurant and the bar
This was a disappointing stay. On arrival we were told that hotels.com had made a mistake with the booking and we had been given a twin room not a double. No apology or offer to even push the twin beds together. After a long day hiking in the Lakes we were ready for some food. The hotel advertises restaurant and bar. The restaurant was fully booked already. The bar ran a first come first served system in two sittings 6pm and 8pm. It was 7pm, we were told by reception to speak to bar staff, bar staff seemed very pessimistic about our chances of getting food at 8pm. Basically we had to take our chances in the free for all. Not the relaxing night we had hoped for. Ended up driving back to Keswick for food. The twin room was not clean, see photo of headboard. Positives... lovely location and breakfast was very nice. I would not stay here again and it certainly is not worth the price tag.
The hotel has nice, well appointed rooms. The bathrooms are especially good. The hotel has a main restaurant which is quite posh, but there's a walkers bar around the corner (part of the hotel) which is much better if you've been out walking all day. The only downside is they don't serve food till 6pm. Breakfast is good with a decent cold selection and a hearty cooked option too.
Comfy beds, modern bathroom with shower gel and shampoo. Tea and coffee in the room with biscuits and bottled tap water. Great staff and parking was good. Will definitely return
2 days at the hotel, one meal in the restaurant, one in the bar. Comfortable room, good fast service in the bar despite very busy on a Monday evening. Some chairs in the room looked rather shabby, some black specs came out of the whirlpool bath. Walking from the door is excellent
Hotel staff were really good. Even though the hotel claims to be dog friendly, you cannot take your dog into the breakfast dining area and are asked to leave your dog in your car whilst you eat. Fortunately, a member of staff on hotel reception offered to look after our dog so we could have a breakfast. No mobile signal at all in the area and can only get wifi in hotel reception.
Had a great stay at the Scafell Hotel. All the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. The hotel has a great feel to it. It's an eclectic mix of the new and old. The room was a good size, you know how much kit you have when you're walking and the bathroom was fab, hot water, hot towels, great shower and bath if you needed to soak.
We loved the hotel, the Riverside bar, where the food was very good and reasonably priced. The location is amazing. We have stayed at several locations throughout the Lakes and would happily return to this one. There really is something about it!
We have just spent a lovely Christmas in the Lakes. Our experiance was one of total relaxation, with good food and company.
Borrowdale is a great location, and the hotel could be good value, if only the rooms had been redecorated in the past 10 years and/or it didn't cost £130 a night. Very old fashioned. Lounge areas were OK.
Food in the bar was mixed; 2 of 4 meals good. Staff friendly enough.
All the staff were excellent ! !!!
Food was good
Location great
Only negatives
Room smelled musty & the shower wasn't powerful but the service, food & location made up for it.
Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and had all the amenities we wanted (except for WiFi, which my son was a bit disappointed about). WiFi is only available in a designated public room on the ground floor. When we asked to book for the restaurant, we were advised to eat in the bar (which I hadn't known about), as it was more child-friendly; this was great advice. Overall, the food was good and the service excellent. We had a good night's sleep in a room overlooking the river.
