If your idea of a hotel peaked in the 70's then this is the hotel for you. If not avoid.
Furniture was tired. The advertised 'Dream Bed' would have been more comfortable sleeping on bricks, and talking of bricks how do you make soft pillows feel like they are made of concrete when you put your head on them.
There is no enough parking for the number of guests meaning you have to park in the expensive cr park next door (seriously, that carpark was nearly empty, why has Leonardo not done a deal with the car park owners?)
The bathrooms needs entirely gutting and starting again (my colleagues room had a hole in the bath that looked like it had been patched with polyfiller)
But my biggest gripe, and this is common across a lot of hotels, is why on earth do you not provide power points on both sides of the bed? Everyone has a smart phone. everyone needs to charge it nightly. put power points by the bed, on both sides.
Our stay at the Leonardo Hotel on Saturday 13 December 2025 was extremely disappointing and stressful.
On arrival, we were told the booking system was down and we couldn’t check in. We had to leave for a pre-arranged event, meaning we couldn’t access our room, shower, or change – the entire reason for booking the hotel.
When we returned later that night, the system was still down. After waiting around 30 minutes while staff manually checked rooms, we were given a key to a room that was already occupied by other guests. This was a shocking breach of privacy and security. A second room was eventually provided, but by then it was well after midnight.
The situation caused significant anxiety, and my wife did not sleep at all, fearing someone else might be given access to our room, just as we had mistakenly entered another guest’s.
Even with a system outage, basic procedures should be in place to protect guests. This experience was chaotic, unsafe, and completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel.
The hotel was full because of the Newcastle-Spurs game but seemed to cope. I didn't hear any noise. The room was pleasant and comfortable with a nice view of the river. It is a bit shabby - dents and scratches rather than anything major. I had to queue (not for long) for breakfast at 0645 which was a surprise. The food was fine - comparable with Premier Inn etc. There's no shops or restaurants nearby but if you walk across the footbridge there's much more choice and a Tesco Metro
Very disappointed our room was so basic and bathroom really needs work. Shower was either scalding or freezing. Marks all over the bath just seemed dirty. Our door was temperamental using the key card. People running about shouting and kicking doors at 4am. Nothing was done. When we left didn’t even get asked if everything was alright. Just a lack of customer service. The bar man just looked like he didn’t want to be there not a great experience.
This hotel is a dump! Needs totally renovated. Bathroom had a shower curtain ! Didn't know you could still get them!. Walls were scuffed, furniture tired. Breakfast Restaurant, looked like a school dining hall... had to ask for more food for buffet, and when it did come looked like been there for days! only fried eggs and bacon were replenished, no beans, orange juice was empty , had to ask for that too. Bar , had a strange smell, furniture was same as dining room, not somewhere to sit and relax. M, not a comfy seat to be seen. Location...In the middle of commercial area, had to taxi everywhere . After staying at the Leonardo in Chester in September, which was lovely, bright, modern, excellent breakfast, this hotel is an embarrassment to the Leonardo name. Avoid at all costs!!
Isabella in Newcastle quetside was so lovely! Lovely room, except we requested a bath and a river view which we didn’t get. Otherwise nice hotel. ………….,,,,,……..,,.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, xx
Stayed here with friends on Sunday night, great location 2 minute walk to the bridge crossing the Tyne. Great car park with plenty of spaces, fantastic staff and are all really friendly, the breakfast was fantastic and a wide choice of foods and drinks. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with very comfortable beds, I would highly recommend a stay here and it only cost £58 for the night
Good stay, good location (although difficult to drive to!). Bathroom let's it down as really needs updating. Car park small so get there early!
Good location for a stop over in the city centre. Hotel slightly tired but comfortable and staff provided great customer service.
I had a fantastic stay here with a great view. The staff were extremely helpful with parking and the breakfast was great. No faults at all, I'd be happy to stay again if I'm ever in the area again.
Well located limited frills hotel and well located to pedestrian bridge to Newcastle Quayside
Hotel across the river a quiet place to relax after a day or night out very clean and tidy and staff were excellent.
Superior room was comfortable but definitely on the small side compared to other hotels I've stayed in recently. Good blackout curtains, although large windows made the room feel a little cold at times, but there was a small fan heater we could use in the room.
Couldn't really see what made the room "superior" Biscuits in the room would have been nice.
Was offered a free upgrade to an executive room, but as this only had one bed we had to decline it.
Food is a little pricey, and no room service, so we went out to eat elsewhere. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice for us.
View of the river was nice, especially with the bridges lit up at night.
Shower not very powerful unless you had it set at top heat, could do with a little maintenance.
I like the hotel. The location
The staff, but the parking situation is a total joke. Its always a struggle. This time i sat in my car for an hr until someone left carpark. This was 13.30.in the afternoon. You would expect it to be empty
Doesn’t clean the bath tub , was left with dirty spoons with dried noodles on them
Lovely hotel comfortable beds and fabulous breakfast
Get there early if you want to park outside rhe hotel its £8.50 per night but a lot cheaper than so.e.of the alternatives
Appalling cuatomer service by one particular receptionist.
I was parked outside reception closest to the exit barrier (sharp 90 degree turn to get out).
Car next to me was really forward to unable to exit without climbing the kerb and risking damage to the underside of my car.
I explained this to the receptionist and her response was "You shouldn't have parked there if you can't get out..!".
I then spoke to a manager to see if they could locate the owner to which I got told that whilst they take car registration numbers for guests, their systems don't have the filtering ability to find the owner and the only way was to check every single booking by room...suffice to say they refused to do this.
Thankfully I managed to get out without damaging the car or exit barrier but did so with what felt like a 6 point turn.
Won't be returning to this hotel and some retraining or a dressing down needs to be given to the member of staff.
Dirty dump and staff that have no interest seen a pizza box from an external company left on table in front of reception for a whole day ill not be back
Absolutely filthy, in need of a refurbishment.
The room was very stuffy and had a smell of urine soon as we walked in. Then noticed its because the toilet hadn't been flushed from previous use.
The spoons at tea station were filthy. Had what looked like dried in yogurt on two of the three of them. The cups had tea stains and lipstick marks. the tray was full of dried in milk and the kettle had a really bad smell from it when opened.
The bathroom wasn't much better, bath had hairs in it. Shower curtain had mould all along the bottom. Finger prints on glass, toothpaste splashes on the wall and toilet wouldn't flush properly.
The bed was missing a wheel so was titled on one side. Paint coming off the walls and ceiling everywhere. Save your money and stay anywhere else. Couldn't wait to get out of it.
Great hotel and staff were excellent
