Nice, clean place with basic facilities in the tourist centre
Pros:

Good breakfast and friendly staff. Cleanness.

Cons:

Bar on the roof- terrace doesn't work. We got upgraded room but it was quite old. We took a room with a sea view but instead of enjoying there was a disturbing noise from the main street.

Piscine au 4eme étage avec possibilité de restauration à des tarifs très abordables.
Petit déjeuner très complet avec un grand choix salé/sucré

Cons:

Des travaux importants de bâtiments à proximité.
Assez loin du centre de Funchal.

Pros:

Localização e simpatia dos funcionários

Cons:

Serviço de bar quase sempre fechado.
Pequeno almoço igual todos os dias.
Obras no exterior não deixavam aproveitar a piscina no sossego. (Esta parte o hotel não tem culpa claro mas na era confortável estar na piscina com o barulho à volta).

I recommend the hotel but not the breakfast.
Pros:

Vila Baleira Funchal is well located near the Lido, several decent restaurants and on a convenient bus route. The reception area and downstairs bar/lounge is very stylish and a nice place to meet. The pool/roof terrace is also lovely but currently quite noisy due to nearby building work (expected to continue until 2028). Reception/bar staff are warm/friendly and exceptionally helpful and our room contained everything we needed.

Cons:

Breakfast staff seemed rather more stressed. The hot food was not at all hot, whether it was sitting on the hot plate or when made fresh, and the juices were not freshly squeezed (more of a cordial mixed with water); fresh fruit was disappointing and the toaster took far too long to toast the bread.
