Room good value then rob you on extras
Pros:

Pretty old coaching inn in town centre.
Receptionist was charming
Ambience was lovely

Cons:

Pillows were the worst ever
Carpet had something spilled on it or possible cleaning product. I nearly went over a couple of times.
When I left in the morning I asked in the dining room if they wouldn’t mind filling my travel cup with coffee. “Of course, no problem at all” I often do this if I’m not stopping for breakfast
Then when I got to check out she said I would need to pay for my drink. £7.55!!! Are you having a laugh? They didn’t warn me that it was chargeable. I will never stay there again. Their loss in a world where hotels are struggling

I really love this hotel as a treat stay. The staff are helpful and welcoming.
Pros:

I was very happy to have my motorbike welcomed into the courtyard rather than the open car park. I felt assured of its security there. Thank you so much. It is helpful to have the car park facility, but not sure I was aware it would be payable per night. The decor and the history of the building are inspiring. The bar food was good.

Cons:

Two things - sorry!
Firstly and most important - the bathroom floor has been tiled with the same tiles as the walls and it is super dangerously slippy. Seriously - there could be a nasty accident, whether barefoot or socks. I placed the shower mat near the door to prevent us sliding into an accident. Wall tiles are inappropriate for the floor - please review it would be awful if someone hit there head because of this!
The room was really quite warm, the hall way also;- perhaps the old walls retain heat as there were no heaters on. Even with the window open at night we found it difficult to sleep well due to being too hot. There was a fan supplied - however this just moved the warm air around and was noisy. p.s it's early May ( not hot summer temperatures)

Loved our stay and will stay again
Pros:

Beautiful building well decorated

Cons:

Courtyard needs a sweep and tidy and more mood music would enhance the hotel atmosphere esp in the bar.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this magnificent hotel and will definitely return
Pros:

The whole experience was exceptional. The hotel was warm throughout. The beds were large and comfy. The TV was well positioned and large. The shower and bath were excellent too.
The bar was cosy and the one real ale was well kept. My wife was overjoyed to find Becks lager on draught, which is rare.
The breakfast in the medieval banqueting hall was magnificent and the service was wonderful.
We will definitely stay again and also recommend this historic hotel to others.
Loved the history of the place and its links to royalty.

Cons:

Nothing.

Overall the ambience was lovely, but let down by the most important aspect of a hotel: getting a good night’s sleep!
Pros:

Lovely staff, great historic building and atmosphere, very convenient location.

Cons:

Uncomfortably warm room (stayed in April) and no air con. Very poor sound proofing (woken up several times by the loud creaking floorboards, constant hum of a air vent in the street outside, plus a gap between door & floor so ever sound outside the room was heard) & the bed/bedding hard and to a poor standard.
