Pros:

Hotel was tired and in need of repair in lots of places. Original room was dirty and the doors would not secure - only option was to stay or to leave. Front desk staff were not helpful.

Nice enough…
Pros:

Walking in it initially looked like a really lovely quiet place but as we spent more time the more flaws we noticed the worse it began to look.

My biggest problem was the room was quite dirty and the headboard was crumbling away onto our pillows. Hair in shower and dust in cracked sink. The view out the patio doors was nice though.
If they put the money into maintaining this hotel it would be so much better! It has such potential to be such a gorgeous place.

The same 2 drinks came to do a different total everyday. All the staff were super lovely except the bar staff on the Saturday night were slightly unprofessional. Charged us for someone else’s drinks then my partner had to work the difference he needed to pay for them.

Best part was probably the location on the beautiful canal and the Spa but even parts of that were in desperate need of some updating/maintenance. Weirdly some areas looked great/new and other areas really run down and old.

Had a mixed experience with the restaurant, all the food we tried was excellent especially the chicken noodles but we had a chicken burger and it wasn’t good. It was clean and a nice atmosphere inside.

Pros:

Had a really good stay for our wedding anniversary the room was very clean and the spa facilities were really good. The stay was sort of spoilt though by a member of the bar staff called Henry who basically just ignored me at the bar after waiting to be served and just started serving someone else before me. Just thought it was a mistake but then did exactly the same thing to my wife when she went the bar. The member of staff in question needs retraining as when I asked him it would be best next time to ask who was next he just gave a sarcastic reply. Apart from that the stay was good.

Pros:

Great stay and lovely food. Room was really nice except for a couple of marks on the bedspread everything was spotless. Would have been good to have biscuits in the room as well as the bottles of water.

Avoid
Pros:

Having spent a while trying to choose a hotel in the area the reviews for this one looked good (which is suspicious based on my experience there) and so we booked it. I stay in 30/40 hotels/yr and this was one of the worst I ever been in.

They didn’t acknowledge Expedia status and we were offered the discount etc. the room and bathroom were tiny. Worst of all though was the condition of the room. It stunk of smoke, was dirty and starting to fall apart (see photos). I’m not sure anyone could disagree if they see the pics I took. I was told the hotel was full so we couldn’t move.

The AC was broken (seems they’ve decided they don’t offer AC anymore), the safe was broken, there were stains everywhere (including the lampshades), the doors were started by to rot and there are no windows (so you need to leave the door open all night or put up with the heat). Even with the door open, the room was warm and I struggled to sleep.

WiFi was poor and struggled to stream Netflix. Mobile phone coverage is also poor in the area so we had to rely on the WiFi.

The bar is not in the hotel, you need to cross the courtyard. The spa is not in the hotel, it’s a 1-2 mins walk (uncovered).

Breakfast was ok but some items are extra (which we weren’t made aware of when ordering).

Doors and wooden surfaces around the ‘resort’ are rotting and unpainted.

The owners clearly don’t want to spend money on the place so it’s getting into a very poor state.

Maybe some rooms have been renovated?

Pros:

My partner and i stayed here from august 22nd until the 25th. We expressed our concerns on the evening of our arrival, our room was grubby with worn and presented nothing like what was advertised, the roller blinds were broken and we were told they would be fixed, however they did not repair this throughout our stay. We asked to move rooms which they said they could not accommodate but it turns out that they would not. They put us on the top floor which smelled of fresh paint all weekend, myself currently on crutches due to recent injury found this difficult especially as considering every day our room key would deactivate.. if i was alone this would of been more difficult. After house keeping services long black strands of hair were left in the bedding and fell out of clean but stained towels..

I asked to speak to a manager upon leaving as if we could of left sooner we would have. The lady on the desk who usually works in the restaurant informed me that there was no manager present, took my complaint and told me i would be called the day after 26th. I have not yet received correspondence even though i have followed up with an email, again to which I'vereceivedno reply.. upon leaving i requested a refund as the only thing we received to the standard that was advertised was the spa which is in an entirely different building through the car park.

The spa facilities were lovely, clean and the staff were without fault.

Pros:

We stayed for two nights at Lion Quays. Breakfast was good although the dining room was unsatisfactory. The carpets were dirty and surrounding decor required dusting and washing, the stained chairs require replacing, the second day i opted for a wooden chair these seemed a little more hygenic for this reason we did not dine in the restaurant but ate out. We had an executive room, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean but would benefit from a fresh coat of paint due to marked walls and stained tables. The extra bed cover had what looked like cigarette burns on the underside, we dont use these anyway but that is not the point. Our room had a view of the canal which was nice but it would have been more enjoyable if the windows had been clean. The bathroom also required an update due to the bath/shower water stained areas, rusty door-stop along with a soap dispenser that was not fit for purpose, I did not use the iron supplied as the stand was rusty. Not what I would expect from a superior room. What a shame as this has the potential to be a beautiful hotel. Will return if standards are improved.

Pros:

Room was not cleanest when we checked in with stains on the bedding.
Had to wait a long time at reception to speak to someone about it.
The lady seemed very over worked but was great and changed our room right away so cannot fault her.

Overall I would say the hotel rooms look tired and in need of freshen up and deep clean.

Spa and breakfast were very good on a positive note
