We really didn't like this hotel at all. When we arrived as a group of four, we were lumped in with a whole load of other people who arrived at the same time for a group check in. I'm fairly certain we didn't get the rooms we booked but we let that go. However, the drains in the bathroom were extremely smelly (and yes I know about the septic tank system but no other hotel in Costa Rica that we stayed in had the same problem). There was nowhere really to sit and have a game of cards so we ended up sitting in the breakfast room which wasn't ideal. Then a member of staff decided to come in and have several loud conversations on the phone which we thought wasn't very professional. Lastly, I ordered an omelette for breakfast which the egg chef totally forgot about. All in all, not a great experience.
Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. Rooms are small but service and hospitality great!
This hotel is a strong 5 star property. The hotel is well located, the property is beautifully designed and decorated and the staff so friendly and helpful. The grounds are lovely with a pool, hot tub and a spa should you want to indulge. The breakfast buffet was good and the restaurant excellent.
We loved the ambience of this Hotel. We stayed in the Family garden room which was also near the pool and hottub. This hotel has a very special ambience and we loved the free drinks and snacks that were included with our room.
The morning buffet was delicious and had a lot of variety. The omelet maker "Alex" was so find and polite. He really stood out.
The weather when we were there was very windy and a bit cool so the heated pool and the hot tub were particularly lovely.
A special touch was that the maid brought us little chocolate every night. So lovely!
This hotel was fantastic, a beautiful property within walking distance to the center of Santa Elena.
Our room was spacious and we spent a beautiful evening roasting marshmallows at the fire pit during happy hour with other guests and we enjoyed a great dinner at the restaurant.
In the morning, breakfast was very nice with the view over the forest. We spent some time walking in the herb garden and the forest trails.
100% recommended
Beautiful hotel within 10 mins walk of town centre. Ate in restaurant one night (was best meal of our 3 week vacation). Several shops and restaurants in adjacent commercial centre. Buffet breakfast very good. All staff very competent and welcoming.
We arrived and were warmly greeted by staff, a cool washcloth and juice. This was a really nice touch and made a great first impression, especially with my 11 year old, who was really impressed with this extra touch. The grounds were beautiful and I really enjoyed watching the wildlife on the grounds. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The location was very convenient, in town and right next door to a grocery store, banking and restaurants. My two boys 8 and 11 years really enjoyed the warm pool and marshmallows by the fire. My biggest complaint is that our stay was only two nights and I would have been happy spending more time at Poco a Poco.
Wonderful hotel . So accommodating. We arrived early and were welcomed with a welcome drink by Lilliana at reception. She went above her duty to get us a room ASAP . We had a room with a Jaccuzi!! Such a treat . The grounds are beautiful and it has a gorgeous pool . Outdoor Jaccuzi and fire pit . Happy hour was delightful watching the sunset . Amazing outdoor restaurant area with gorgeous colourful pictures on the wall . Lovely trail walk around hotel also . Small gym as well . We had plentiful drinks included in our room with snacks . The restaurant had a wonderful menu and we enjoyed our meal there . Breakfast was wonderful with lovely fresh fruit and fruit juices and so much more . I am sad that we were only there one night ! Shops near by to do souvenir shopping as well . Possibly one my favourite hotels in all my years of travel . Excellent service. Treetopia zip line is close by as well .
Excellent check-in process, with friendly staff. Lovely room, very clean and spacious. Great breakfast, and restaurant on-site if required. Nice little trail around the grounds.
Options to book experiences if required (such as Night Walks, or Birdwatching).
A friendly and welcoming hotel with attractive gardens and comfortable rooms. Town centre within easy walking distance.
Worst EXPERIENCE I have ever had in my life at a hotel.
I am an avid traveller and been to over 20 countries.
The location and property was nice but my room had a stinking bathroom drain.
Shower was clogged and water was not draining. Multiple times of back and forth with the management and they refused to refund or compensate.
After I got my travel agent involved they changed my room.
I would not stay here again!
Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Comfortable rooms. Good breakfast. Easy access to shops and restaurants.
Hotel restaurant good but pricey.
Lovely friendly hotel. Well designed and stylish reception and other public areas. Beautiful gardens with lots of quiet areas to sit in the sun and enjoy the surroundings. We walked the small trail through the surrounding woods and grounds.
Magnificent views of the sunset. I do not think the pictures do the hotel justice. The pool and Jacuzzi proved great places to relax in the afternoon.
All the staff were delightful, very helpful and friendly. Great breakfasts - with beautiful garden views. It was also very good that we could easily walk into Santa Elena which had a choice of restaurants and interesting shops.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in returning.
What a lovely hotel. Super friendly staff. Beautiful view of sunset in the evening and rainbows in the morning. The staff even threw a Superbowl party for the guests.
Hotel was lovely and location was great for going into town as well. Food was good but had much better food by going into town. Position was idyllic looking over the valley and could have been such a peaceful stay but spoiled by loud piped music everywhere. Couldn't escape it, even in our room which was near the pool. And our room tucked away down a corridor with almost no natural light, which, combined with the music, didn't make it somewhere to retreat or relax. We did ask for the music to be turned down but to no avail.
Great location, just out of the town and by the small shopping mall. We received an efficient, friendly welcome and check in. The rooms are lovely, spacious and modern - ours had a jacuzzi which we did not use. Laundry service was also much appreciated and very efficient. Gardens are gorgeous but the uncomfortable garden benches (stone classical style) should maybe be replaced by something a bit more comfy to sit on. Otherwise the view from them at sunset is lovely and there are lots of birds around.
Breakfast buffet is a bit chaotic at peak times, and the queue for cooked eggs was too long some days. Bar service a bit patchy. One of our cocktails was definitely off (tasted of soap) and when we sent back it was not replaced. We cannot comment on dinner service as we ate out each evening. Monte Verde has plenty of options for dining within a ten minute walk.
Note for swimmers, the pool is tiny and under a roof, really a backdrop for the bar - only fit for posing in - with a cocktail. And also there is piped slightly intrusive music in the dining areas and bars. Very repetitive and annoying after 3 days. I heard other guests asking waiters to turn the volume down a couple of times.
Nevertheless this did not spoil our stay, we would recommend this hotel to friends.
Very oleasant place to stay with great views of the sunset from the bar
Short walk to town with plenty of shops, supermarkets and acess to ATMS for cash
Recommend banco polar set off the street for easy ATM service
Well located hotel in Santa Elena, close to shops and good restaurants. It's a very steep hill into the town so be warned!
Hotel is clean, breakfast superb, and staff very friendly.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Great rooms and fantastic bar area with fire pits (they give you marshmallows to toast at the bar if you want to). Cocktails to die for! The aperol margarita is a must! The birding here is also fantastic, with toucans, hummingbirds, tangers and motmots all around. We also saw a coati in the grounds and lots of agouti. Didn’t try the restaurant but the nachos were perfect. Staff are fantastic.
My husband and I had a fabulous time at Poco a Poco Hotel. The staff were all amazing. My room was decorated for my birthday. The room was clean, atmosphere was peaceful. There were beautiful walking trails on the property. Special mention for the restaurant staff especially Luis, Josue, and Joshua. The service was 5 *. They were kind, personable and felt like family. Thank you for wonderful stay.
