Awful
Pros:

Awful! Worst place I’ve ever stayed! Waste of time, effort and money! I Was bought this as a 40th birthday treat! Quite frankly a two course meal in Wetherspoons would have been more enjoyable! A two night stay in executive room with nothing executive about it. Spa was fully booked. Which left little to do for two nights. The menu was limited with Christmas dinner still an option. Extremely slow service on the Saturday. Food was less than average.

Good food
Pros:

We had a lovely group dinner here and the food was very good . The vegan and vegetarian dishes were quite exceptional which is not always the case when we go out for dinner at places. The people who served us who were called Milly and Danielle were very attentive, very helpful and very kind and made it a delightful lovely experience.

Spa and spa staff top notch, management and allergen safety extremely concerning
Pros:

I had a lovely spa day at Ringwood Hall and the spa team were fantastic, but the restaurant experience really let the day down. I have a gluten and oat allergy, and although the first staff member was excellent, the rest of the service was slow, confused and unsafe. We waited 45 minutes for food, the server didn’t know which meal was gluten free, and no one checked on us at any point. We ended up taking desserts to go after spending 90 minutes in the restaurant.

I emailed the hotel on 6 December, followed up on 9 December and again on 8 January, and still haven’t received a proper response or apology. The spa itself is brilliant, but the restaurant service and lack of management follow‑up were really disappointing, especially given the seriousness of allergen safety

A lovely, local spot
Pros:

I've been to Ringwood Hall a number of times for both lunches and spa trips as I live locally, and I have always been impressed with what it has to offer.

The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, the spa has always been quiet (much better than some where you're fighting for a space in the sauna), and food in the restaurant has been exactly what we wanted at a reasonable price - sitting outside when the weather is nice is a lovely way to spend a lunchtime.

The grounds are great for a walk on a sunny day, with lots of places for children to explore and burn off some energy.

Definitely somewhere I will be back to soon, especially as my husband has promised me a spa trip and this place is always my go-to!

Poor Management
Pros:

I would have preferred to have dealt with this directly with the hotel but as the hotel appears reluctant to provide management details I have no other option but to post this here on Tripadvisor.

For context our stay was for two nights 30/31 December 2025 and we were in room 208.
Firstly I would like to start by commending the staff on being pleasant, helpful and responsive with any queries/problems that we had – far better than some other hotels that we have stayed in.

After having checked-in we found upon entering our room that it was cold and turning the heater up to maximum and switching the towel rail on in the bathroom helped slightly – this is something that I would have expected to have been done prior to our arrival. In actual fact much of the hotel was cold and it was not comfortable moving around. The following morning I mentioned to reception that the room was cold and an additional heater was provided within a few minutes which would indicate that rooms being cold is a known problem.

Also there was virtually no hot water in the room during our stay meaning that it was almost impossible to have a shower. The response from reception was to allow the water to run for 10 minutes, again giving the impression that this is a known problem, which was not exactly the answer that I was expecting and something that I would consider to not be environmentally friendly in this day and age. Having stayed in many hotels both in the UK and overseas I have never had a problem with no hot water being available 24/7.

I would also be intrigued to know the reasoning for placing the room safe on the floor meaning that you have to crawl on the floor to use it!

On a positive note the lighting in the room is probably the best that I have encountered in any hotel and makes a welcome change to dimly lit hotel rooms that seem to be the norm these days.

An issue of greater concern is that of accessibility around the hotel which, in my opinion, it would appear that the hotel does not comply with the Equality Act 2010 in many respects. Whilst I can accept that this is both an old and a listed building that does not preclude it from being made accessible.

I was a little surprised to find that there is no lift in the hotel and that there is no clear mention of this on the website. Furthermore there is no mention on the website, nor when booking over the phone, of the convoluted route from reception to some of the rooms that involve going up/down several flights of stairs and corridors. Even going to the restaurant involves going up some stairs. For anybody with mobility problems this hotel would be a nightmare. I am aware that there is accommodation in other areas of the hotel grounds but I do not know how accessible those rooms are and also they some distance from the main building meaning that guests would be required to move around the outside of the property in possibly inclement weather, which I believe is not a suitable alternative within the scope of the Equality Act.

I will acknowledge that there was no problem with finding somebody to assist with the movement of luggage.

In respect of New Year’s Eve I was somewhat surprised to find that the menu had been changed after final payment had been made and that this had not been communicated to me. Advertising that the main course was gluten free and then substituting fillet steak with Beef Wellington could be a major problem for some people. (I was actually told that this was done because the new chef did not like the original menu!). I would add that the size of the Beef Wellington was out of proportion to the reast of the plate and my beef was well overcooked and inedible – and judging by the returned plates so were many others.

Also why, apart from increasing bar sales, was the pre-dinner reception held in the bar area which was too small? By my rough calculation there was approaching 100 guests for NYE yet the bar only had seating for around a quarter of them and no consideration was made for those unable to find a seat.

Tired hotel with awful food.
Pros:

We booked two nights in an Executive Room between Christmas and New Year via Secret Escapes, with a two course dinner and breakfast for both days. We arrived into a grand old fashioned reception area with an impressive staircase, we were told our room was up stairs and along the corridor. We had a heavy case and there is no lift, no problem, but this could be for others, especially as the hotel is a labyrinth, up, down, around, up, down, around… We entered our room, it was absolutely freezing, we turned the wall heater on but it didn’t seem to work, it had some sort of timer on it that just made an annoying clicking sound, but sadly no heat. There was a mobile oil radiator placed in the room for our use, but it was so cold I went to reception ask for a room change. The duty manager was called, her response was nonchalant as she shrugged, but she showed me another room, the same spec and it was still cold, she commented it was very cold and said she didn’t know why ‘they’ didn’t leave the heaters on, I thought this would have been her job, to direct staff to prep rooms for guests?! When she tried the heater it worked (and didn’t have an annoying clicking timer on it) so I was very grateful and she followed me to our original room as I’d left my husband there. She commented the clicking noise of the heater would drive her mad and acknowledged the cold. She was helpful and carried the portable radiator down to our room and it soon warmed up. The lights in both rooms continuously flickered, like there is an electrical fault, worryingly.
The grounds are beautiful, I’m sure they’d be gorgeous in the summer.
We went for a drink in the bar, it was empty considering it was Saturday. We ordered drinks and found a small ‘snug’ to sit in as all of the tables were set for food, except a large island that was directly in front of the bar. While we sat enjoying our drinks there was a sudden draft and the temperature dropped, we discovered staff had wedged outdoor doors open down the corridor, one on each side of the corridor, for some reason, we left as it became cold and wasn’t nice sat in a cold draught.
We came back to the restaurant for our dinner, there was only one other couple in the restaurant, very odd for a Saturday night. Our starters appeared to share a hot dog shaped brioche roll, my husbands half smothered with creamy mushrooms that reminded him of ‘toast toppers’, my ‘toasted brioche’ with pâté was the other half, sliced and put through a grill that made it taste burnt, though it wasn’t and it was still soft, weird. I didn’t eat the starter, it wasn’t nice. The staff were very young, and trying their best. We ordered fish and triple cooked chips for main, the fish was okay but the chips weren’t triple cooked, more skin on limp potato.
Breakfast, it doesn’t get any better and I feel mean giving the details, luke warm tea/coffee, bacon that you can’t cut but can snap… I’ll stop there.
Dinner, it was Sunday and I’m sorry to say but it was the worst beef dinner we’ve ever had, it wasn’t hot, just warm and tasteless, there was only one potato between a large dinner and a small (£4 extra, not that it affected our bill). We were sat in the conservatory next to the beautiful wall of glass panes, lovely but very dirty windows, inside and out.
On the whole a really disappointing stay, would we come back? No. Would we recommend, no. We definitely had buyers regret.

Absolutely Shocking!!!
Pros:

Had the works Christmas Do here last night, three course meal, never again! The starter was satisfactory. Main course was cold. One carrot, one parsnip, potatoes weren’t cooked, so sent it back. Cherry pie for desert but the pastry was raw so sent back. Drinks at the bar were very expensive, had to wait 30 minutes to get served due to insufficient number of members of staff.

Pros:

Recently attended the Christmas murder mystery evening for our works Christmas do - advised to arrive at 19:00 into a cramped bar area with a lengthy wait at the bar. Then into the main room where the event took place. All seemed well but the evening was haphazard, microphones not functioning, some actors bellowing their lines across the room. Food was served barely warm and clearly reheated with margarine for the bread. Whenever a dish was served the actors upped the ante so it was a struggle to concentrate on both. For the money we paid it was all a bit of a let down. There was no explanation as to why a team “won” at the end. We would have liked a bit of music to end the evening but instead it was silent; to top it off the tills malfunctioned so we couldn’t even end the night with another drink.

Spa day with afternoon tea
Pros:

Spa day visit
We were very fortunate that the day we visited was a quiet day. Meant no crowding in any of the facilities. Practically had the place to ourselves.
The pool is tiny but lovely and clean as is the rest of the area
Afternoon tea was nice, and you can take home leftovers. Coffee on the other hand was 🤢 so strong and harsh. I'd give that a wide berth

Wedding - November
Pros:

We had our wedding here this November and it was everything we dreamt of and more! This venue has the most helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. The whole day ran super smooth due to the team sorting everything so no one had to lift a finger. Sian&Sophie in the events team were so polite and welcoming from every visit to ever phone call they were always happy to lend advice or a hand with anything. They were really accommodating with everything anyone needed and the food was so so good everyone complimented the entire day! Incredible views for photos inside and outside.

If this is a wedding venue choice then look no further!

long, long wait for overpriced food
Pros:

Loking for a few days away this hotel looked good, four stars, with an excellent looking spa. We had a superior room but this room (228) was next to the aircon units and noisy, We were quickly offered other rooms and we used 222 much better.
However the rooms are tired and worn but the bathrooms dirty but modern.
The problem came at dinner. It describes its restaurant (seriously) as "probably among the best in Chesterfield". The standard must be appalling else where in the town because:
We came down to dinner at 6.30 and a polite waiter took our order within 5 minutes.
After 30 minutes we managed to order some wine.
After 45 minutes I asked where the food was and he said the order hadn't been put through (he did not apologise) had no explanation. We cancelled the starter and said we'd go straight to main course but could we have some bread. I had to remind them about the bread and when it came it was 2 small pieces with olives which would cost 7.95. The mains arrived after 8pm and were an adequate oversalted chicken dish and an average fillet steak (massively overpriced at £34).
I complained to the duty manager who had no answers.
The restaurant was less than half full and has the tired wooden table set up of the 80s.We cancelled our second night.
The staff were generally helpful but the place was dirty.

Just ok this time round - Too many negatives - Seems rundown and neglected
Pros:

Booked a full day true tranquility spa for two with meal included - Returning customer - NEGATIVES: 1 - We were the first ones in and the changing room and spa area hadnt been checked, tidied or cleaned. 2 - Used robes hung on the toilet doors. 3 - Empty glass under a spa chair. 4 - Spa chairs left untidy. 5 - Broken toilet seat which kept falling on you. 6 - No bottle of body wash in one of the two shower cubicles ... white containers on the floor but only hone with a pump spout. 7- Poor attempt at cleaning the sauna glass (it looked terrible). 8 - Pool no where as warm as it was last time (no warmer than local swimming baths)...did not feel warm when in the pool (very disappointing for the amount of money we paid. 9 - Foot spa not as powerful as before. 10 - First robe had both belt loops broken ... asked for it to be swapped to save belt dragging in water, and second one came with only one belt loop attached ! 11 - Terrible main course (Veg Wellington) ... Tasteless Wellington ... well overcooked Yorkshire pudding ... near enough raw green beans ... tasteless stuffing ... too much over sweet beetroot puree ... POSITIVES :) 1 - Massage was really nice. 2 - Changing room warm. 3 - Not overcrowded. 4 - Very nice meal starter (Mushroom Soup). 5 - All Staff friendly and helpful ... Overall it was just ok this time. Just too many negatives. Seems to be a bit rundown and neglected which is a real shame ! Will think twice about returning again and spending £330 !!! (such a shame)

Wouldn't recommend.
Pros:

Paid £60 for a afternoon tea for three people and the quality, experience and food was beyond attrotous. Arrived to rubbish scattered around the car park including tampons. Served a broken cup, price doesn't even remotely reflect the food served as it was poor quality and portion size. Won't be returning, was highly disappointed as this was a treat for a special event that was ruined by the pure lack of thought or quality. Could have done much better myself at a quarter of the price.

Ringwood hotel & spa(only if you book before you arrive)
Pros:

Just returned from a stay at this hotel. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. I booked a feature room picture showing four poster bed but we were given a different room which was equally nice with drapes over the headboard. The room and bathroom were clean and lovely. The breakfast was nice. Now for the disappointing bit. We travelled here to use the spa facilities which on arrival were told they are separate to the hotel and were full. There isn't a pool or steam room for residents to use at their leisure.

2 rooms on a one night stay
Pros:

Nice property and grounds although some communal areas tired looking. . Staff friendly. Our rooms were a walk away from reception. Room clean. Beds and pillows too soft for us.
Could hear neighbours laughing, so sound insulation could be better.
Food was good.
