Disppointing visit in Paradise
Pros:

The hotel has a unique history and is centrally located in Colombo. I like boutique hotels with a small number of rooms. The food is outstanding - black pork curry, prawn curry, mud crab soup, lobster and crab fettucine - I cannot fault lunch and dinner service. The staff are lovely, kind, friendly - I would happily return just to see them again. There was a lady that was really trying to help us settle us in - she did do all she could do considering we flew in in the early morning that day to ensure our room was ready. Best tamarind chilli martini ever. Delicious toasty cinnamon swirls on the 2nd day.

Cons:

When we went to check in, the guy at reception asked us if we were expecting to check in that day (like they didn't know we were coming), the room we were assigned looked nothing like the photo. This was our 2nd time staying at the hotel and the decor felt tired this time. There was torn upholstery in dining room and dining seat padding was non-existent making dining seat and height to table awkward, poor lighting, no ambience, bedroom walls under aircon had mould, large patch of peeling paint on balcony ceiling, bathroom grout looked mouldy, bath was stained,, shower door didn't close properly, 4 poster iron bed creaked and twanged when you sat or moved in bed, noisy aircon. Scrambled eggs was terrible and croissant and cinnamon swirl basket was stale on the first day.

We'll be back!
Pros:

The indoor breakfast room is a little low on light but otherwise lovely. There is the possibility of eating outdoors in the garden but mosquitoes can be bothersome of a morning. Rooms are enormous. General decor is very tasteful and rooms are accessed via a delightful grand wooden staircase. Pool is small (slim) but very beautiful. There is also a small but well equipped gym. Reading room/library is a novelty with many old tomes. Neighbourhood is residential (Colombo 7) so very peaceful compared with Galle Rd precinct. Lovely large terrace was accessible off our room (terrace shared with another room)

Cons:

Squeaky bed in our room. Low light in downstairs dining room.

Pros:

Mooie locatie in Colombo, vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Lekker eten!

Cons:

Achterstallig onderhoud aan het gehele hotel. Kamer bevond zich onder de gym, dus overlast van sportende gasten. Plunge pool was niet onderhouden en werd niet schoongehouden. Over priced.....

It would be difficult to stay anywhere else in Colombo.
Pros:

An opulently appointed historic home of Sri Lanka’s premier dynastic political family located in Colombo’s diplomatic quarter. This is not a hotel in any conventional sense… rather a sanctuary where your needs are exceeded to in every way by staff who care and with whom you are destined to bond.

Cons:

Don’t get your laundry done here. For the cost, you may as well replace the dirty clothes with new ones. It would be cheaper.

The most amazing hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
Pros:

One of the greatest hotels I have ever stayed in. This place oozes quality. No wonder Prince Charles and Camilla stayed here when they paid a visit. The location in great but the staff are another level. Every detail is finely crafted and every need is jumped upon by well trained staff. Honestly the staff can’t do enough for you, they made our stay very memorable need. The food it top notch and if Michelin were in town they would surely get a star. The breakfasts are to die for. The rooms are generous and comfortable and the housekeeper was a diamond. Absolutely nothing could be improved upon. If you are in Colombo and need luxury, don’t go anywhere else.

Pros:

Amazing stay at what used to be the president’s mansion. Located in Colombo 7 with most of the embassies and other mansions. Staff were wonderful and the room was huge. Deep bath with jets provided too.

Pros:

I have forgotten my reading glasses in my room and as I was boarding my plane the staff noted me about my glasses and sent them via DHL to Europe. 2 days after my arrival I have reading glasses back again. What an extra mile service! Thank you so much for this!
