Clean and comfortable, but don’t stay during a heat wave
Pros:

Easy to find, clean and comfortable bed and room.

Cons:

I stayed during the heatwave and when I asked for a fan for the very hot room, they said they didn’t have any. I would have expected an establishment with rooms to have fans available during a heat wave.

Overall good but a few small tweaks could make it excellent.
Pros:

Staff were very friendly and breakfast was delicious! The bed was very comfortable and the room was very spacious.

Cons:

The shower leaked badly to the point the floor was rotted and mouldy, there was a patch of ceiling falling in outside the bedroom. And no spoon to stir my morning coffee.

Pros:

The room! beds and bedding were exceptionally comfortable.

Cons:

My room was above the bar, so it was a little noisy until pub closing, but then it was nice and quiet. The bathroom was a little tired, but clean and worked perfectly well.

Pros:

Awful experience
Cons:

Upon arrival, we were told that we had reserved the dining room, despite showing our Booking.com reservation for a twin room with two beds. We were told they did not know how this could have happened and that they could only offer us accommodation for 2 nights instead of the 5 nights we had originally booked.

Although we explained that it was impossible for us to have booked the dining room because it is not even offered on Booking.com, they continued to insist that we had done so. In particular, the manager, Cindy, showed very little professionalism or willingness to take responsibility for what had happened.

They claimed that they had tried to contact us, but in reality they had only sent us a message two days before the start of our stay, even though the reservation had been made five months earlier.

We decided to contact Booking.com to report the situation, and only then did the accommodation offer us the two nights free of charge. However, if we had not contacted Booking.com, they would not have made any gesture of goodwill.

Finally, after speaking with Booking.com, they acknowledged that booking a dining room was not an option available on Booking.com and that the mistake had indeed been theirs. It was only at this point, two days after the initial incident, that they apologized and accepted responsibility for their error. Despite this, we were only able to stay for 2 of the 5 nights we had originally reserved.

The attitude of the staff handling the issue was extremely poor from the very beginning. Rather than accepting responsibility for the mistake, they repeatedly claimed that we had made the reservation incorrectly. If an error has been made, it should be acknowledged and addressed immediately, not blamed on the customer without justification.

The Rose and Crown is a lovely hotel and pub with excellent staff.
Pros:

The Rose and Crown is a nice pub with very good food, the staff were friendly and happy to talk about the nearby sights. The village is near the Ridgeway walking path, which is why we came to stay in Ashbury. The restaurant and pub are very nice with good food and nice indoor and outdoor seating options.

Cons:

Some features of the room and the upstairs hotel had some deferred maintenance issues. There is plaster damage in the upstairs hallway that looks bad and the faucet in the bathroom needed a bit of extra manipulation to get it to shut off.

Pros:

A lovely place to stay over the pub, had a cozy cottage feel to it and the fish and chips were great. Beds were cozy and comfortable. Shower wasn't the warmest but it wasn't cold and got the job done!

A really nice traditional pub and great place to stay if you are walking along the Ridgeway
Pros:

The location is perfect for walkers who are completing the Ridgeway path and the pub can be accessed almost directly by a short footpath leading down from the Ridgeway, through fields. The landlady and staff were very helpful and the rooms are well-equiped. The dinner menu is also good.

Cons:

The bedroom and bathroom windows could not be opened....so the room became a little uncomfortable at night, during the current heatwave.
