This a beautiful small but spacious hotel in colonial style which was developed by acclaimed Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa in the 1980s and renovated recently with great taste. Its simply and comfortably furnished public spaces flow into each other and link with the outdoors through courtyards, flowers and plants in huge pots. The main dining room is open to the garden on two sides with blinds that can quickly be pulled down if it rains. The garden is a good size with lush lawns, frangipane trees, a cool loggia and two pools. At the end of the garden is the main railway line from Galle to Colombo. Trains are not that frequent and add to the charm of one's stay. The beach is just the other side of the railway line, great for walking and sunsets. The staff were all delightful - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our room and en suite were lovely and had everything we needed, The food, both Sri Lankan and western dishes, was very good and not expensive (by London standards) so we didn't try any other local restaurants as we were only there 4 nights. We would definitely go back,
There are a couple of early trains (around 6.00 am) so light sleepers may find that disturbing. You have to walk a little way up the beach (300m) to find a safe place to swim as there are rip tides and strong surf.
The property is beautiful and had been designed by a most renowned Sri Lankan architect. Beautiful interiors and artwork. Fabulous restaurant for lunch and evening and a good choice for breakfast. You can walk
Along the beach to several beach bars. The railway track runs along the bottom of the garden between the hotel and the beach which is actually great fun watching all the passengers. All the staff are super helpful and I can definitely recommend this boutique hotel to anyone.
Nothing
Great customer service. Beautiful location, right on the beach. We had a suite which was spacious. They organised a late check out room for us. We used the spa and had wonderful massages. Delicious food, available all day. Great recommendations for local restaurants. Tuk Tuk drivers outside the property every night.
The train line is very close, it didn’t detract from the property, it was amusing waving to passengers.
Nothing
So off the beaten track and calm and quiet. The staff was so nice, discreet and helpful.
The architecture, garden, pools, location. The staff were very friendly and the food was good.
المكان جميل جداً جداً
شراشف السرير جداً جدًا سيئة وغير نظيفة
Incredibly relaxing, comfortable, great food and location
They need new locks for the bedrooms and better bar snacks - otherwise great!
We liked the surroundings the wildlife, the pools, the younger staff were amazing very attentive, the room was lovely the bed very comfortable
The hotel it self was very expensive. The food and drink were very expensive and we would not pay that sort of money in England. We went to restaurants in the area which was a third cheaper than here. Too expensive for us to eat here more than 1 night, food was just the same as other restaurants in the area for less money.
We did have breakfast included in the price which was lovely however I asked for some orange juice which I had every morning, however one morning and was told by the member of staff that it was only the juices on display. The juice in display was blackcurrant juice and I don’t drink that because it has to much sugar in it. Quite disappointing that as a top hotel he couldn’t be bothered to get some juice.
Also a few minor points
Water left in the kettle and coffee pots not cleaned
A swarm of flies on the balcony every day
The Villa is nice place, good location for trips. we highly reccomed driver for trips through Island- our dear Netaj +94 (77) 706 5854
Lovely staff
Great pool
Very quiet
The early morning wedding photo shoots with drone!
This hotel was beautiful, the staff were so friendly and our room was gorgeous.
Shame that the sea was so rough and the beach not swimmable just outside but there was an area for swimming just up the beach - 10 minute walk.
Beautifully styled property, very clean, immaculately kept gardens and pool. Great place for a relax, comfortable bed and room. Lots of lovely places to sit, short stroll over the railway line to the beautiful beach. Tuk tuk ride away from restaurants and shops. The hotel food was very good, breakfast was different each day, the buffet was very good but when they did table service on some days it was incredibly slow (my only criticism!) I would recommend this hotel.
Beautiful hotel in amazing grounds. Fabulous pool and dining experience. The staff were so attentive nothing was too much trouble.
The Villa Bentota is a quiet haven by the side of the Indian Ocean. The villa was designed by the famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The pool was a real feature for us. 23 metres long and excellent for morning fitness swims. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely attentive.
Nothing not to like.
