We had a short break as a family staying in one of the 3 bedroom villas which are part of the Verdura complex
With the villa we had access to all the facilities of the resort plus the benefit of space and privacy of the villa. We loved having our own heated private pool and the ability to have our own breakfast, lunch and snacks if and when we wanted
The villa itself was wonderful. A 3 bed villa with lovely views over the golf and resort towards the sea. Beautifully designed, extremely quiet, and with all the facilities required inside and out. We were kindly provided with 2 buggies to get to the resort - essential as it is 7 or 8 minutes away on the buggy which was fine for us.
The service before and during our stay was terrific. Some of the very best I have experienced to help arrange the villa, sort out reservations and also deal with daily requests. Thank you to the brilliant Santa and the villa team
We ate in several of the resort restaurants. Universally the service was terrific. The catering for gluten free was generally very good across all and excitingly they have gluten free tiramisu…so the coeliacs in my family ate as much as possible each evening
Buongiorno: Breakfast here was OK. Small buffet selection with an omelette station. Other hot food could be ordered but it’s a pretty limited offering and OK on quality but good service
Amare: Superb seafood selection. I had red prawns which were made into a Sicilian sauce with pasta which was one of the best pasta dishes I have eaten
Zagara : extremely good. Lovely atmosphere and service.
L’Osteria: more casual than others. Good food and experience
Liola: Probably the one we enjoyed least on quality and atmosphere but that was probably as we ate there after a day of travelling.
We played golf on all 3 courses. The East course is by far the best on set up and design. A real challenge. The West course has some beautiful holes on the sea but is more a set of straight holes. The executive course is in very poor condition on the greens but was ok to hit a few balls around. The staff at the pro-shop and caddy shop were great
Beach: as noted by other reviewers it’s not much of a beach sand wise with lots of shingle to get into water (a mat walkway is installed) and as it was a bit windy was red flagged a couple of days
Padel and Tennis: enjoyed a game here. Padel courts new and great condition
Gym: excellent facility with good mix of weights and cardio. Open 24 hours
Overall we had a superb time and highly recommended
We enjoyed our short break. The resort was lovely and quiet with a beautiful spa and a lovely golf course. We really couldn’t fault anything. The staff were first class.
What a great resort!! When in Siclly it is a must visit, what a great way to unwind and enjoy the Sicilian hospitality. The staff is great and with its 6 restaurant, where they serve great food and great wines. Before diner the Sirocco bar is a great way to start your evening. They have a Negroni challenge and I challenge you to guess the right one.
Indulge yourself in the Sicilian way of life
The extremely friendly staff that wanted to fulfill your every wish. The bikes to get around the resort. Spa services.
The rooms were far overpriced. Refurbishment is long overdue. There was no response to our wish to book a teetime in advance. Obliged gratuity in all restaurants and hotelbills.
We stayed at this property in September and we had a very nice stay. The room was nice and facing the sea. Modern and clean, just the bathroom needs some more decoration. Staff was very friendly all over the property. Breakfast was great. Also pools very nice and a lot of sunbeds and two big swimming pools plus more pools and jacuzzi at the spa. Unfortunately grassed areas quite burnt and also the golf courses not really in very good condition. It is a nice property but for over 1000 € per night the prices are too high, and for these prices they even charge an extra service charge per room per night, which is not great
We were at Verdura as part of an International Golf group of 171 golfers from around the world. My wife and I were very disappointed with the “luxury” resort. There was no hot water in our room 4 of the 9 nights of our stay, cable TV disconnected on 3 days, and we were not informed the two golf courses had been under drought restrictions for 2 years only being able to water just the greens. 4 rounds of lift, clean, and place the ball if you were able to find a tuft of grass to put it on. Horrible conditions. We won’t be going back! I would normally provide this feedback directly and privately to the management. However, there is no capability to do so on their website site.
A beautiful 5 Star resort, staff and all facilities excellent!
Nothing.
We have stayed as a family of five (two adults, two teen girls and a now 11 year old boy) twice before in the summer.
Having had an excellent family holiday both times, work commitments meant this year we tried a late October break.
And we again had a great break. Of course the weather was cooler and slightly more mixed but still 20 degrees plus. No Juve academy, Zambrotta training during our stay or Sicilian night but Verdura’s ‘off season’ still meant full range of sports including water sports. All but one restaurant open and the addition this time of a new clubhouse bar by the golf course which was an excellent addition. As was the expansion of the cocktail bar now the lovely Scirocco where we started each of our evenings.
Service continues to be great. Food still great - our kids have allergies that are a bit weird and all the restaurants did a great job of managing all that. The upstairs offering has been substantially expanded as Osteria and was great. The breakfast team always ensure you start the day very look after and with a great range to suit all tastes.
I also played both golf courses again and especially for resort courses are a real test especially off the whites. Very enjoyable to play.
So no hesitation to recommend - the place really is first class - our issue now is trying to lose some of the weight from the food and wine that the daily gym visits didn’t quite manage to off set
Golf courses
Far from the airport, dinners were very expensive
A 5-star-resort? Yes. Grand luxury? No. Verdura is sprawling resort, well-kept throughout, but its overall presentation, its architecture in particular, has become somewhat outdated. The access areas to the rooms in the many two-story buildings are at best spartan, although the rooms are well-appointed with large and comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms. Generous supply of water every day. But nothing to write a novel about.
Staff: Certainly the resort's strongpoint. Friendly, helpful, efficient, practically all with at least sufficient command of English. Excellent experience and thank you to all.
Restaurants (of which there are many): Very good, but not haute cuisine.
Bars (main building and clubhouse): Good with pleasant snack served with drinks.
Golf: Two 18-hole courses, well kept, good tee-boxes, large fairways, quick greens. The West course is an open expanse without much optical attraction, the East course is the much, much better and more challenging design. Overall, I doubt that Kyle Philips considers either of the courses one of his masterpieces. Well organised tee-times, excellent caddy-master staff.
Spa: Excellent.
Geographical situation: In the middle of nowhere in a not-so-attractive landscape. If you travel to Verdura without your own car, you are stuck in a 5-star-prison. The neighbouring towns (Sciacca, Ribera) are urbanistically perfectly awful. Sites to visit are obviously Agrigento and Selinunte, each about one hour's drive away. But the rest: Hm.
Downside of Verdura: Every extra is indecently and counter-productively expensive. Food, drinks, treatments in the spa, nothing is worth the price-tag. Even if one can afford it - one shrinks away from a 33 cl bottle of domestic beer at 10 € from the minibar, where micro-bottles of Campari, whiskey, gin, etc., start at 15 €. A standard dinner for two with a starter and a main dish and the cheapest bottle of domestic wine will easily set you back 200 €. Just too much. RoccoForte should revisit pricing policy in this area.
