When we arrived, they had no record of our booking. We were supposed to be on a B&B package but the kitchen wasn't open and we couldn't even have a cup of tea as they said the kettle was broken!!! Eventually booked somewhere else which was great. Contacted hotels.com and they couldn't even contact the hotel by phone. All in all, and absolute shame!! We'll obviously never book again to stay there?
Everything about the hotel/pub was great. But I couldn’t get food - restaurant closed early, and I wasn’t told this when I checked in. Also I’m elderly and no help was offered to find and get to my room.
Great little country pub. Friendly manager and staff. Excellent food and cask beer.
The property was beautiful very quiet location.
However, the lamps were dusty, the shower and sink had loads of long dark hair in the plug holes. There were sachets of half used complementary shower jells half used . It was billed as b&b totaly unsuitable for diabetics being two Panna chocolate one each two open bars, one each one apple one banana and two boxes of cereal with a few sachets of milk to go with it. No cups to make tea/coffee although there were plenty. The dishes were sticky and chipped disgusting. There was no food available in the evening at the bar , no phone charging available. We would not stay there again. I have photograph evidence
Nice helpful staff , clean rooms and nice bathroom
Friendly staff, helpful and informative.
Lovely room and property.
Friendly staff and clean rooms, but no restaurant service available. Clean and comfortable room. Continental breakfast not served until 8 am - I needed to leave by 8 am, so I could not really comment on the quality of breakfast as I could only grab a glass of orange juice and a slice of toast before leaving.
The Hotel was extremely quiet - probably due to accessibility during major roadworks on the A303.
Nice room, friendly bar with unexpected entertainment.Had a lovely stay good choice of breakfast items.Hopefully restaurant will reopen in the future.
Sadly, the accommodation was neglected and in need of some tlc.
The sink in the bathroom was cracked, and there was no light bulb above the bathroom mirror. The chair to sit up to the desk to work, had a collapsed bottom and was not fit for purpose.
The cleanliness was poor, particularly in the bathroom where there was old soap suds on the handrails in the shower.
On a positive note the bed was comfortable.
Would have scored higher if they had an open kitchen. No evening restaurant and West Camel is off the beaten track. Was an issue for me as diabetic. Bar staff took pity and made a cheese sandwich.
Room dirty and dated bed wasn’t great and breakfast was cheese and ham however it was cheap
Showed up at 7 pm on a Sunday evening, having made the booking on Expedia and having driven all day, only to be advised that they do not take overnight bookings on a Sunday.
The staff were dismissive and the one on reception continued looking at her phone and offered no apology, we left and they locked the door behind us.
People need to be aware of this and not to book for a Sunday stay.
Room was cold, otherwise all OK
Pleasant staff
Lovely place to stay very clean and comfortable
Wouldn’t take much to return this place back to its glory days , definitely new pillows a bit of a clean and an offer of a cooked meal overall not bad for the price
Lovely location, very quiet not much road noise.
Some dusting in room needed doing & toilet flushing & shower noise from rooms next door can be annoying when yr trying to sleep
I checked in at 8pm
Room was freezing cold, bathroom window wide open, bathroom window curtain hanging, hooks broken.
Window looking out onto main car park !
Checked in by a lady who contributed to look at her phone ! When I asked why I had no heating in my room and it was freezing, she mumbled a man was coming tomorrow to fix it ! Even though it came on in the morning !
I asked prior for a room with a bath, no response and after arrival only shower. I asked for a bath and this was sorted.
Room was cold, poor lighting, spiders everywhere, no bath mat ..it was very slippery, no soap at all provided.
Good was friendly kind staff, breakfast good.
Ok, I booked because of price, but the room photos looked good and it was rated on hotels.com as 8.0+. We booked the deluxe double and were looking forward to a comfortable night breaking up a drive from Cornwall to Cambridge. We arrived and were shown to a tired room that looked nothing like the picture. The bathroom was not clean and there was a sugar packet in the middle of the floor, obviously attention to detail was lacking. Then I sat on the bed, it was terrible, the mattress had collapsed and felt like it may have been supplied when the pub was built. We went back to reception to be offered the only other room they had, a twin on the first floor. The carpet on the way to the room needed a good clean but we hoped the room would at least be comfortable. Alas a similar story with the room and the beds may have been worse than the original. Back to reception, having already been told on the way to the second room, “nothing we can do you’ll need to take it up with the third party booking service”. I showed the picture of the room as booked on hotels.com and was told “yeah, they always show that picture, I’ve asked them to change it but they haven’t” then “you did only pay £36.29 for the room, they’re normally £120” actually we paid £45 so looks like hotels.com take 20% commission on that booking. As it was only £45 I decided a good night sleep was worth more than that, so chose to continue the journey and drive another 4 hours and get home. If I had paid £120…
Value for money, ideal for visiting the surrounding area or just as stopover on route.
Evening meal was very good. Although don’t expect massive menu.
Food was very well priced and freshly prepared.
Room was ok for night. But found pillows a bit flat
