Very run down
We had a lovely stay and found all the staff to be incredibly friendly and helpful. On arrival, we were shown to our room and given a tour of the garden, which was especially useful as we were travelling with our dog. It's great to find somewhere that's both dog- and cat-friendly!
Our room was on the second floor. As there isn't a lift, the staff kindly mentioned that we could request a lower-floor room next time because of our mobility issues, which was much appreciated. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. Although the décor is a little dated, it was well maintained, and cleanliness is far more important to us.
We had breakfast every morning, and it was excellent value for money. Our dog even received a sausage each day, which was a lovely touch! 😁
The hotel is around a 10–15 minute walk from the main street, and there's a large park just a few minutes away, making it ideal if you're travelling with a dog.
We'll definitely be booking again and are already looking forward to returning to Southport, seeing the wonderful staff, and enjoying the local sights once more.
Parking
Old and dated
nothing
Garbage in the parking area. Hallway to the room was crammed with items making it difficult to roll our bags through.
The room was dirty, disheveled... bed was unmade, pictures on the wall were askew, window opened just a crack and there is no AC. No drapes for the curtains - with the sun rising at 4am. And there were flags on the building which flapped onto the windows making a racket. Bathroom sink was cracked, and the toilet paper roll dispenser was practically in the tub.
Staff made myself and my dog feel welcome and were friendly and helpful.
Especially liked the garden, location and that it was quiet and peaceful.
Bed comfortable, and good breakfast in room - really appreciated them accommodating dietary needs.
Shower not so good (pressure/warmth), rubber mat in bath would be helpful.
Free parking, nice quite location with a 5min walk to the main street. Lovely host. Clean white towels. Mini bar a nice touch in room even though we did use it.
Outdated rooms, musty smell, just needs a really good clean, lick of paint, new cleaner bedding and pillows. Just needs a bit of tlc and freshening up.
Literally everything
We have just returned from a wonderful three-night stay at the Balmoral Lodge Hotel.
We booked a three-night stay through Wowcher for just £129, which included a continental breakfast, a freshly cooked full English breakfast each morning and even a bottle of wine of our choice. We chose the rosé (Rachel's favourite!), and it was a lovely touch that made us feel welcomed from the start.
Our room was very spacious, with a large, comfortable double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The shower was perfect at the beginning or the end of each day—refreshing after exploring everything Southport has to offer.
The hotel has real character. It isn't trying to be a modern luxury hotel, nor should it be. Instead, it has that traditional, slightly quirky seaside charm that feels warm, welcoming and genuinely homely. It suited the character of Southport perfectly, and within a very short time we felt completely at home.
The real highlight of our stay was Marie, who has owned the Balmoral Lodge for 18 years, and her wonderful team. Marie is a delightful host, and nothing was ever too much trouble. She works incredibly hard to make guests feel welcome, and her kindness and hospitality really shine through. We felt genuinely cared for throughout our stay.
The location suited us perfectly. It's around a 15 to 20-minute walk into the beautiful shopping area of Lord Street, with the beach, pier and Marine Lake just a little further on. We actually enjoyed the walks, taking in the atmosphere of one of Britain's classic seaside towns.
In truth, we hardly watched the television at all because we were having such a lovely time exploring Southport and relaxing. That's probably one of the best compliments we can give.
Most importantly, we felt comfortable, safe and completely at ease during our stay. In fact, we seriously considered extending our holiday by another night because we were enjoying ourselves so much. There is so much to see and do around Southport that three nights simply wasn't enough, and we will definitely be returning.
Thank you, Marie and your team, for your kindness, hospitality and hard work. We left with happy memories, feeling rested, welcomed and very grateful.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Balmoral Lodge to anyone looking for honest, comfortable accommodation offering value for money. If you're expecting genuine hospitality, a comfortable stay and excellent value rather than five-star luxury, I'm sure you'll leave just as happy as we did.
I read the reviews and thought it sounded Ok. How wrong
It was the dirtiest place I have ever stayed. Room 11. Mould, dirty floors and light switches. If it hadn't been late I would of walked out. My 1q year old was in tears. It needs shutting down and scrubbing from top to bottom. Didnt have breakfast? Wouldn't have trusted the cleanliness
My friend and I stayed one night here and had a lovely time. Lord St with all it's shops and bars is a 5-10 minute walk away. It is dated but for the price well worth it, we had breakfast and what a bargain, £5 each. Early check in late checkout, perfect. We had a garden room with little balcony so my friend could just pop out for a smoke. Maria was lovely and everyone was very helpful. We will be back.
Liked nothing
The customer service was awful, rude, and arrogant

Chosen for location, facilities left a lot to be desired. Tired decor, bathroom had broken tiles and appeared to be held together with silicone. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Cleanliness left a lot to be desired, decor dated. Bathroom needed complete overhaul.
