A noisy busy hotel above a rowdy pub in the centre of town, avoid if you want a good nights rest.
Pros:

The room was clean and comfortable, and a decent size with plenty of storage for luggage and clothes.

Cons:

We stopped here for a rest on a long drive from Scotland south. Initially we struggled to park (parking is actually down the road at the sister hotel, only space for 5-6 cars on site). At check in we were met with comments from the staff about how noisy the room was, 'don't expect to sleep much' and 'I hope you don't want an early night'. When we got into the room it was evident that she was correct, there was noise from the bar below and the corridor outside. Not unmanageable but enough to disturb. Evidently the management knew about these issues as they had provided ear plugs in the room! When we raised these issues with them we were generally dismissed. So rather than endure a disturbed night before a long drive we decided to abandon and booked a room in a local premier inn instead. In hindsight perhaps it was our mistake booking a town centre hotel but it was not really clear from the listing that they are aiming at the night life crowd and a place to crash after a party.

Perfect for a two night stay to explore the lovely town and area
Pros:

High st location was really good.
Restaurant food and service and bar were fabulous

Cons:

Bedroom with single glazed windows was a bit noisy. Bins being emptied at 4am etc
The bed was 2 singles together which made a gap in the middle but all in all it was fine. Big, spacious room was very comfortable

Really good room and good value, just a little May day surprise!
Pros:

We didn't have breakfast, but were told at the sister hotel that it would be served there when we attended a gig the night of our stay. Everyone was extremely friendly and straight-forward. The mattress was super comfortable and it was extremely clean. Shower worked well etc.

Cons:

This is not anyone's fault really, but I think a warning or rethink of the room allocation based on the situation would have been a good idea. The May fair was going on and the room was litterally vibrating when we arrived. The very kind woman who gave me the key and explained very well where parking and the room was, said it would be quiet by 9pm, which was fine, but we didn't quite take in the level of volume and vibration in the room. We had a sense of humour about it, but it just meant that we didn't spend any time in the room at all except to sleep there. As the weather was a bit bad, it would have been nice to have a place to hang out for some of the time before we went to dinner and the gig at the sister hotel. I think, as a former hotel owner, I would have explained the situation in advance and then it is up to the booker if it is okay or not?

Room nice - noisy room overnight.
Pros:

The room was very nice (rm 1). Clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable too.

Cons:

Loud “bass line” music till 1am didn’t help my sleeping. Wasn’t aware there’s a music event below my room. The SUPPLIED ear plugs made no difference.
